    No joke, my husband and his brother were both saved by their family cat as infants from SIDS. The cat would freak the f out until my mother in law got up and took care of the situation. I would not be a happily married woman if not for cats.

      I guess along with the smell, their hearing is also more sensitive. Maybe the cat realized they struggled to breathe or something. Also, I do believe that cats certainly care about people they have close bonds with, and want to keep them alive and healthy. And it's not only a case of them needing humans for food. One of my parents' cats for whatever reason shows the most sympathy towards me among all my family members. It is surprising, since I don't live with them, and don't feed her. She just really likes me and trusts me for whatever reason.

    Most of the time when humans have toxoplasma ghondii, it's from eating undercooked meat. Most indoor cats won't ever get it, and an infected cat is only contagious for a few days when the eggs... emerge.

    Toxoplasma ghondii is absoluteley harmless to us. Wich is the reason our bodies don't react to it. The only harm it can cause is when a women who is negative, gets pregnant and than gets in contact to toxoplasma, it can complicate the developement of the fetus. So it makes alot of sense to make contact with cats when you're young. ^^

    If that makes it any better the research on Toxoplasma Gondii has little to no effect on healthy adults. Other than fringe cases you'll mostly have mild flue-like symptoms...

    • @Vincisomething
      @Vincisomething 10 місяців тому +21

      I don't think it makes you sick like other parasites. People don't often have symptoms which is why so many people don't know they have it and it can lie dormant. On occasion, it can have a debilitating or even fatal effect on humans, especially those with some problem with a suppressed immune system.
      But I think in most people, the symptoms are mental (and it's more so the parasite combined with genetic factors may be the cause than the parasite itself).

    Toxoplasmosis, the illness caused by T. gondii, is usually incredibly mild; as he notes, most people who have it don't know they have it, because they never have any symptoms of it. Worst case, it can cause death, by causing diarrhea to the point of severe dehydration, or, if you get it in your eye, blindness - but it's easily treated with medication, even in the worst case. The only time it isn't easily cured by medication, is if it infects a fetus still in the womb, which is why, as you noted, pregnant women are advised not to be around their cats' litter. But even if a fetus gets infected, they can treat it, it just doesn't cure it, it sends it dormant. But once the baby is born, additional meds CAN cure it. So, enjoy your cat and don't stress about the parasite. ;)

    The video of the tigers “mooing” isn’t them trying to trick the cows; that’s just what a meow sounds like when you make it tiger-sized. If you ran it through a program that lets you change the pitch, it would sound exactly like a regular meow if you set it to a higher pitch.
    You also don’t usually have to worry about toxoplasmosis if your cats are indoor-only and receive routine vet care. Very few indoor-only cats are infected because they’ve never actually come in contact with it.

    I wouldn't be afraid of big cats if I were you. Cats go for the throat immediately. And can come from height, so breaking your back. It might hurt, but not for long.
    Personally, grizzlies and coyotes scare me WAY MORE! Grizzlies enjoy eating their prey alive. Then half burying it so it will still be fresh when they come back. That's a huge no thanks from me.
    And coyotes, like any canine, only has its mouth to bring you down and kill you. So we are talking maiming of the legs and arms. And since they have to eat quickly in case another predator shows up, you will be alive when they start to eat.
    If you are to be killed by an animal, you want it to be a big cat.
