The Ark Two Shelter is a nuclear fallout shelter built by Bruce Beach in the village of Horning's Mills (north of Toronto, Ontario). The shelter first became habitable in 1980 and has been continuously expanded and improved since then.
The 10,000-square-foot shelter is composed of 42 school buses, which were buried underground as patterns for concrete that was then poured over to provide the main structure, onto which up to fourteen feet of earth were piled to provide fallout protection.
With construction beginning in the early 1980s (during the height of the cold war), the shelter was designed to accommodate as many as five hundred people, for the length of time required to allow the widespread nuclear fallout to decay to a level allowing a safe return to the surface after a cataclysmic nuclear event.
The shelter includes two commercial kitchens, full plumbing (including a private well for potable water and a motel-sized septic tank), three months' worth of diesel, a radio based communications center, a chapel, and a decontamination room.
Ark Two is equipped with a communications room capable of broadcasting locally on the FM broadcast band, and throughout Canada and the United States on the AM and Shortwave Bands.
A particularly novel feature is a collapsible, weather balloon deployed antenna, capable of being launched from within the shelter. All Ark Two communication equipment is EMP hardened and generator powered so as to be able to transmit survival information to the general public in the event of nuclear war.
Beach does not charge money for admission to the shelter, instead guaranteeing individuals admission in return for sweat equity and active involvement in the Ark Two communities' various activities. In addition, "Everyone is welcome here, regardless of religion, race, nationality, political views...". In return for the promise of safe haven in times of nuclear attack, a person residing in nearby areas might be expected to, for example, work at the shelter several weekends each year, assisting in the routine maintenance or continuing renovations of the facility. A large percentage of the shelter population is expected to be children, as the primary purpose of the shelter is to serve as an "underground orphanage, a place where a new generation could be saved from nuclear apocalypse", which, according to Beach, would otherwise wipe out over 80% of the world's population. "We're going to say to people: 'Well, we have room for your children, but we don't have room for you.' That's the nature of life... this is the lifeboat."
Beach believes that the majority of preppers are too concerned with personal survival, when they should be focused on reconstructing the world after a cataclysmic disaster. He runs an online "reconstruction network" (the "SAFE" community) through which he shares information about Ark Two and his evacuation plans

Rest in Peace Bruce Beach - - you had a heart of gold and your kindness will never be forgotten.
What a cool spooky place! Makes me think of Cloverfield 10 with John Goodman.
Omg that was badass!! Was it hot in their? Or was it uncomfortable? A family of 100 could live down their comfortably💖 I wonder what future plans he has for it if any I would hate to see it just sit their and deteriorate because it’s absolutely amazing down their ppl should donate time to help get it up to date with up to date supplies (food, water, toiletries, appliances ect) maybe even turn it into a motel that would be so cool might as well make some $ while it’s just sitting you know how many ppl would pay to stay the night their and their had to have been 40 busses down their make it a 30 room motel and use the other 10 busses for a kitchen a gift shop a women’s bathroom a men’s bathroom a shower room ect my mind is going crazy with ideas for this place 💞 thank you Carlo once again you brought us a good one 💯 xoxo much love❣️❤️❣️
This is so super awesome LOTS of respect for the man who put it together! Thank you so very much for bringing us along!
Ty Carlos for everything that you do for us. I have been watching your videos You always explore your destinations with so much respect. You are the best
I count at least 90 cots in 4 rooms +2 so far. At least he thought about saving more people than his own family. He's really thought the place out good.
i dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?
I was dumb forgot the password. I would love any tips you can give me!
@Reuben Marcellus Instablaster :)
@Alejandro Francis thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Alejandro Francis it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my ass !
@Reuben Marcellus No problem :)
What a fantastic place! Great look at survival shelter. I sure hope it's never needed. Great video Carlos.
Hi Carlo, Awesome Video, I heard about that guy who bought like 40 old school buses and wondered what he did with them. Wow what an underground compound. Thanks for bringing that for us. and you sure did a very thorough job of showing us every room, nook and escape hatch! You know just in case. Much love and respect Cheryl
This was a really cool find Carlo! 👍👏
And I just have to say....I really like the haircut!😊
So neat seeing something like this I always wondered what it would look like inside one of these
Whoa thanks for making this video Carlos
All that black mold in there makes it a death trap.
"That's the old way to do oil.... I love that." Dude, you are KILLING ME. I only have like 8 of those in my machine shop.
That place looked EPIC, Carlo. I bet it was hard for the ppl back in the day with the nuclear war. Full credit to the man who built it all by himself.
We might be going to war very soon with china
He had contractors build it still awsome though
@@chrishuber8930 please don't say that.
@@davynhainstock7503 are you sure?!
@@welsh_dragon yes this is the best video on this place but there is a couple more out there and in one the guy was talking about building it .its a big place it would take way to much for one guy and a couple buddies to put together on the weekends
Nice video Carlo. I so enjoy all your videos as well as Riddim & Dave's. This too is a nice find and even better because you have permission. Also, nice that Bruce thought to make the bunker large enough for others. So everything he has done is a great concept in theory; however, it is no where near ready for people if anything should happen. Having all that stuff for repairs and such wouldn't be of any use unless someone knew what to do with it. The food storage wouldn't matter, unless someone knew what to do with wheat & sugar. No manuals or books on repairs etc. Also some of the items are just taking up space, you couldn't use the BBQ without proper ventilation, TV's wouldn't work without the airways. Books and games would be helpful to help with entertaining people. People's mental health would become a problem very quickly if this were needed any time soon. Other problems, I didn't see any purification system for the water or the air. There is so much work to be done to make it ready for short term or long term usage. From what I saw, it's become more of a storage place and not a place for people. Anyways Bruce, thanks for the idea, but I pray you never have to use it for what you were making it for. I'm ex-Army and believe in being prepared for things that could arise in this crazy world we live in and I have my own food storage etc for emergencies and would take my chances in my basement.
Wow Carlo what an awesome place. Totally amazing. Great video. ❤✌
Carlo you're such a dork😁
😲😲😲😲
WOW,that's amazing!!!!!
Everybody needs a place like that..
HOW BIG IS THAT PLACE?!?!!??
I love that .
The only thing I didn't see was a type of jail cell in case someone goes crazy during a time when the outside doors cannot be opened because of contamination.
Straight Jacket :)
Easy just throw them outside
Thats what handcuffs are for. Id cuff someone to their bed and tell then they are confined for 3 hours or longer if needed
That is the most interesting thing I have ever seen!! That man must have been planning that shelter for years in advance! Just amazing! Awesome video and explore as always Carlo!! Loved the longer video! 🤗💜 Love from New Jersey
This is so awesome! In those big abandoned you share with us, They must have some of these bad boyz hidden cuz some houses have lots of bathrooms and kitchens.
Cool explore!!! Very interesting! Thanks! 💙♥️💙
So cool, thanks for showing us this, so awesome!!
This place is amazing I am thinking after a few moths the air down there would be rather stale. The vents are small. Thanks for the video.
No there are pumps
Excellent video.. but i was so keen to see the surgery.. but you didn't go back!! Lovin your work all the way from Australia! Take care Carlo
Ya, this place was on TV - the couple that made that place a reality we're really cool...& I believe there were some younger family members there also, seems as though the young ones have dropped the ball -- & didn't follow through with getting it up & going again, it's been sitting dormant for some time...old guy used a bunch of school buses, has fresh air system, bunks, water, it's way cool - don't waste it you younger generation family members, be proud of what he built & left for you
This video was amazing thanks for sharing
To have only two entrances above and below, please go out and fly with TRIKE ASA DELTA, air balloon. In the case of Zumbis there must be a tower, similar to a chimney or cooling tower for nuclear power plants, because ZUMBI DOES NOT UNDER PAU DE SEBO.
cool place but i probably would rather be dead lol
It jeeds to be restored
I'm with you, I have 2 shells, I get the first, AFTER what you do with the 2nd is up to you.
Awesome video Carlo stay safe love ya.....
Great to see you've visited Ark 2 Carlo!, I'm going to enjoy watching this. 😁
😮 WOW, that place is awesome!!
Love your video Carlos
Years ago a story surfaced about a man here in the United States that was building a fallout shelter with old school buses. he was catching alot of crap from neighbors and local government about all the school buses he had laying around his property that he hadn't used in his fallout shelter yet and local government was wanting to tax him greatly over the project. I wonder if this might be the same guy that owns this fallout shelter.
wow, I can just imagine what a set up. this would be perfect to make a scary movie in. This is amazing, the time, the money and thought of putting this all together. like HOLY SHut your mouth fred. thanks for sharing
I'd love to spend a whole weekend down there listening to old radio mysteries and creepypasta!!
Great video bro
At least he tried to be prepared given what was known when he built it. Those who criticize surely haven't done as much to save their family in the event an untoward circumstance. Obviously he loved his family and the other folks he would have around him.
Awesome video
Thats a big Caterpillar diesel generator. That was big money. Theyre running the small generator but i bet if you actually needed it that diesel genny could run forever.
Just love your intro music! Itz the bomb
Looks like you could get lost in there
Awesome you're going to need one soon,. This world is headed for bad and dark times! Plant something, be self sufficient
Cool place, made for a lot of people 😊
Awesome it's so freaking huge. 😱
Very interesting but more of a death trap since the early 90s. Half the stuff in there is broken or useless. It would make an interesting tourist attraction but I wouldn't be trying to get in there in a disaster situation.
Thanks for the tour. When the zombie apocalypse hits and I become a zombie, this is the first bunker me and the undead army are coming after.
Amazing place
Awesome great video
Like an underground trailer park add more extention cords
Good video wish I could have one that must of cost a lot
90 bunks 1 toilet, washer and 1 4 burner stove lol glwith that
It doesnt have 1 toilet it has at least 10 that i saw
Very interesting 👌
Good Morning, Vaul-Tec Calling!
wow this is awesome
Good intentions, but god i want to rip everything out of there. Repaint and refill it with modern stuff. Make it a functional bunker
I agree 100%, plus a nuclear bomb would annihilate this bunker.
It could work as a homeless shelter because it would have no use if it is going to be a nuclear bomb shelter because it would be abandoned too!
Cool fallout bunker
I think I'd rather take my chances with the fallout than breath in all that mould down there! :)
It must be made of stainless material, and externally coated with a refractory element to protect against heat waves.
Drinking game : Take drink everytime he says "man its wild"
nah id have liver failiur lol
very cool
awesome
Sooooooo cool!!
Cone down and shoot a video here
Wonder if the owner would be willing to rent living space here in exchange for cleanup, and improvements?
Trapped in there with the sound of a running generator would drive me insane in minutes. No thanks.
Y'all should call this place the underground school of geothermal.
solid door... :D
You missed the Geiger counters how dare you
Sweet...
Wow who's ready for a zombie apocalypse?...Cool and well prepared...
Why are there bed pans
That would be more of a Maine power source the generator you are running off is only a temporary
EPIC
Hi Moe! Hope Shadia is doing better!❤
Hi moe
Moe can u give me a shout out
Imagine what this place will look like fifty years from now.
Eventually the metal would rust and the dirt from above will come in.
Should turn it into a Hostel.
where is the solar/wind power???
Lol, when people think they’re safe, then a 50-megaton nuclear bomb comes along.
Good you were allowed to go in. LOL
I did get permission, but had to do lots of work..... so worth it
No te conosia con ese nuevo LOOK...jajajajaj el video espectacular muy bueno usteds No padesen de claustrofobia jajaj xq tamto encierro
Where is the link to your buddies video
He hasn't posted his yet, subscribe to his channel
Anyone else getting STALKER vibes form this landscape lol
Great place go during Zombie apocalypse 👍🏻👍🏻
I'd hate to see someone try and stay there for a long time. Didn't look too healthy to me. Needs a lot of ventilation and moisture control installed. Just building something like basement rooms connected together, covered with steel decking and concrete poured over it would be much better. I'd have fake tree stumps with security cameras hooked up to LED TV placed vertical for "WINDOWS" so that people would not feel like they are closed in all the time. You could see who was coming around too. Just saying that is what I would do if I had the land. Build a couple of rooms each year till I was done.
I wouldn't trust that carlos
This place is a death trap!!!! The guy probably meant well but obviously he was a hoarder!!!!
That's what I was thinking. Definitely got a "hoarder" vibe going on in lots of rooms. I imagine he's spent years just going around to yard sales and junk giveaways and picked up stuff thinking "oh, this could be useful" and then stashing it down there. Unfortunately, little attempt to set things up in an efficient, systematic, organized way... The giant stack of old microwaves just piled up on top of each other in the kitchen really says a lot.
@@calebfuller4713 I was thinking there was a freezer bus full of hot pockets to warrant having 6+ microwaves.
To all the people here saying they would rather die on the surface I think you will be thinking differently wen the starvation and exposure start to set in
Gas in a bunker = Boom....
Kid toys in a doomsday bunker wow
Cool place tho
the divide?
When you leave a room .. Turn off the light!
This is where they buried school busses?
I don't think "seeds" have a "lifespan." LMAO
I would figure the place would be more organized and more modernized if it was truly going to be used. More esthetically pleasant. The excess not needed materials taken out..WHAT A WASTE😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I wonder with all the right mods if he coulda grew weed all through the 80's and 90's down there .....and then just retired. Could have been a non stop grow op lol.
Ah these comments disappoint me
Lithium ion batterys rechargeable would be a better power source
Based on Freaktography video, the old man that he interviewed said, the shelter was built in case of nuclear war. It's meant as a protection for a limited number of people, preferably the younger generation. Once the war is over, these survivors could rebuild back the world. Hopefully, it would never come to that. Thanks Carlo.
Are you italian?
He built these ALL BY HIMSELF! (It's some particle board, and some firing strips cut into 1/2 and 1/4ths to make square cubicles. I think my great grandma could have made those and she never used a saw or hammer. ANYHOW: This dude had a lot of time, and money he could have been doing something MORE USEFUL for mankind. It is COOL, but absolute waste. BUT I'd love to see it and I would pay the dude if I was ever there to see it. Thankfully the owner didn't build it, so I wouldn't have to tell him he is 3 screws short of a full load.
Wow!!! What a great place!!! To bad it was not in better shape could surely hide your whole family out down there from this virus shit going on! Lol
