    This is a good start for building out the Osmose ecosystem we've been asking for. I don't think I saw the Osmose using its pressure-controlled portamento/pitch glide feature during the demo though. Does this mean things still haven't been worked out with Haken Audio to allow the Osmose to use that feature with external sound sources? This is a huge problem because it's one of the main advertised features along with being able to use it as a MIDI controller, yet the feature can't be used with other sound sources. This is the number one thing I think needs to be addressed because right now the Osmose cannot deliver what it promises. Also, please make sure your existing instruments like Imagine, Nosy, the Arche Collection, etc., can work with all of Osmose's features. Then, tackle the acoustic/orchestral/jazz instruments for soundtrack composers, either by creating a new sound library or collaborating with existing developers that already have realistic-sounding virtual acoustic instruments.

      My sentiments exactly, I even asked for a refund of osmoses software they sell on their site , because I wrongly assumed they were automatically all mpe .. I bought ROLI’s equator instead . Not happy about not been able to to use my favorite osmoses feature : pressure glide , and Aftertouch like it should , so I’m weary of this one if it’s also as “ expressive “ …

      @@qiqi2692 Funny you mentioned Roli, because they just releases this video on the same day that Expressive E released the Phase Plant ones: ua-cam.com/video/xxFSXynQJ3o/v-deo.html
      And this is the meaningful difference between the two companies. Roli products are often depicted performing realistic orchestral and jazz demos and not just electronic music demos, showing that their products are capable of working with either in-house or third-party sound sources for soundtrack composers who need those realistic sounding instruments and ensembles, while Expressive E has not demonstrated that at all (they dabbled in that but not to nearly the same degree of fidelity or comprehensiveness as Roli). I mean, who was not completely stunned when Roli released this video demonstrating the Seaboard Block playing the Gershwin clarinet solo? ua-cam.com/video/IKSplgK5IEg/v-deo.htmlsi=uhgTW4z2deUbcmRd
      Express E needs stunning videos like that to prove that the Osmose can do that type of music just as well as Roli, but they won't be able to until they address the problems I mentioned previously with the lack of realistic acoustic instruments or the ability to control third-party ones on the market with all of Osmose's MPE features.

      Pressure glide is available via midi port 2. I’ve tested it with swam string sections and it works fine. I think there was some miscommunication, because midi 1 seems to be for the compatibility modes for legacy midi.

    • @LunatiqueRob
      @LunatiqueRob 7 місяців тому +1

      @@joecorrigan6113 I've done that and the overlapped note will not glide to the correct target note in SWAM instruments--it can be off by half a step or more depending on the interval of the two notes. I've corresponded with Expressive E's tech support about this and they suggested changing the pitch bend setting in EganMatrix's desktop editing software from 48 to 96, but that didn't fix the problem. I've been waiting for a fix ever since.

    Sounds amazing. What samples/synths did you use for the drums and the instruments that were not from the phase plant expressive suite?

  • @FutureLust
    @FutureLust 7 місяців тому +1

    Speaking of upcoming updates..When the MPE arpeggiator becomes avaliable for external control, will the Synth Osmose is controlling also need to be MPE? Or will Osmose be able to use the MPE arpeggiator to control a non-MPE synth as well? I’m guessing there would be a way to output the MIDI to a non-MPE synth since Osmose could just output the data to the DAW

    • @ExpressiveE
      @ExpressiveE  6 місяців тому +2

      It works for instruments without MPE support as well. When notes don't overlap that much, the arpeggiator can bring interesting variations to non-MPE synths as well, check the harp here: ua-cam.com/video/sOgBbSZae-k/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared&t=478
      However, you cannot have much individual per-note modulation when notes are played at the same time, e.g. when using a "chord" pattern for the arp. Except for MIDI velocity which is of course individual per note, there is no way to continuously change synth parameters individually per note unless the synth you control has MPE support

    • @FutureLust
      @FutureLust 6 місяців тому +1

      @@ExpressiveE Oh yes I forgot you demonstrated non-MPE synths in that video. Will we see the external MPE control be displayed at the next continuconn? Perhaps with pressure glide and additive resynthesis?

    Just got the suite, sounds amazing, but I have push3 and Ableton 12 and mpe doesn't work with Phase Plant, is there any kind of setup needed? other mpe instruments work just fine...I'm bummed since the demo got very excited, thank you!

      Hi, you need to right-click on the Phase Plant plugin in the Detail/Device View of Ableton Live to "Enable MPE Mode".

    This feels like a silly question, but I downloaded the packs and can’t get the MPE to work in them at all. In Pigments I turn on MPE in the settings and it works fine in ableton using the Osmose. I can’t seem to get MPE working at all in Phase Plant, which is a synth I’m relatively new to, any guidance would be appreciated.

    Are we expecting to see a software/firmware update to the Osmose anytime soon? What about the Eagan Matrix, any news on making it a bit more stable and reliable to connect? Would be nice to see some improvement on the actual device.

      @@ExpressiveE Wanted to pass along a bug, I've noticed.
      When in any DAW (tried on Logic and Bitwig) using any VST (Serum, Pigment, Phase Plant with new expressive patches), if I tap a key quickly and ensure that I engage the aftertouch (even at level 1) the note past to ANY VST will be nearly silent (as though the note was at velocity 1).
      This is quite annoying and seriously impacts the usability of the hardware as a controller. if you require further details let me know, I can submit a bug report via the website.

      @@MatsueMusicHi Matsue, thanks a lot, we have noticed this issue before. After investigation, it showed it's a problem on the DAW's and/or the plugin's end.
      Kilohearts did their part in offering a fix with version 2.1.5 of Phase Plant, see their changelog "Fixed incorrect monophonic pressure values at the beginning of notes".
      We are now awaiting feedback from all DAW developers we have contacted. Thanks for your patience!

      @@ExpressiveE Do you have a list of daws which present the bug please ? When using Bitwig for exemple no preset is really playable until you switch to poly at instead of channel pressure. Special mention to "sahara winds" which is just catastrophic in any mode, notes not playing, random retrigger of sustained notes...I'm playing with the presets in reaper for the moment and it behaves as expected fortunately, but it would be interesting to know which daws are concerned so we, users, can ask for bugfixes. Thanks. And since you are obviously aware of the problem wouldn't it be fair to actually communicate about the issue ? Because, if daw developpers take monthes to get the issue fixed, customers are basically left with a broken product ?

    How useful will these presets be with something like the Arturia Keylab (which is what I have)? I know it has aftertouch so assume that would just work. Is it easy/possible to map the other MPE modulation to another controller?

    • @ExpressiveE
      @ExpressiveE  7 місяців тому +3

      Hi Eric, your experience with regular MIDI controllers will be very limited. You would be left with MIDI velocity and global aftertouch and pitch bend instead of MPE functionality that incorporates per-note (polyphonic) Pressure, Aftertouch, and Pitch Bend on top. We don't recommend using it with regular MIDI controllers because the sounds often rely heavily on those MPE interactions.

      @@ericdanielhaleyWe found that Push 3 by Ableton works relatively well because it has a well working continuous detection of pressure. In case you are on Ableton anyway, it might offer enough benefits for you to justify the price tag.
