    Excellent explanation, thank you, Mark. I am particularly grateful for the hint of using interval shooting via S&Q and simply slowing down the frame rate.
    Things can be so simple, sometimes. But I would never have found that by myself.

    Thank you for your very informative video. I just purchased the a7 IV and I am really happy for it so far, apart for a major point, regarding the Interval Shooting mode. I've recently found myself in a situation where I was going to take a picture of myself with someone else, so I did what I've always done with my previous camera. Set the camera on the tripod, got into the interval shooting, set it to start shooting after 10 seconds, so I could get in the frame and then the camera was supposed to take a picture every 2 seconds, that way I could choose the best one later. My jaw dropped when I saw that every picture after the first one, missed both our eyes. Then I realized that there was no eye detect and AF-C available on that mode, just AF-S and MF, and that simply doesn't make any sense. I used to do that with an extremely old Nikon D200, and of course, although that camera doesn't have eye AF, at least I could use the AF-C in that mode and get precise focus. How can I get around that issue? I can't use the Image Edge app at the moment and I really see no point in purchasing a remote trigger for a task that should be done in camera.. I would deeply appreciate any suggestions

    Thank you, Mark. Excellent series of videos. It is unfortunate that you cannot add "Interval Shooting Func." to the Function Menu, despite being able to add "Interval Shooting" on/off to the Function Menu. This forces you to have to get into the menus (or My Menu) to change the interval settings. Doesn't seem to make sense.

      @@AlphaCreativeSkills that is true. I'm coming at it more from a Video side but yes you can sync that in LR easy. With a Red cam, the iso and WB is all raw data and you can choose that on the other side too. Makes life easier.

    Thanks for taking the time going over this. I have been using the sold Imaging edge mobile app downloaded to my A6500 and A7RII with I have enjoyed for the AE tracking for sunsets, but am limited to 900 shots. I have an A1 and ready to see what I can make this do for day to night timelapses.

    great video, though i wouldnt really recommend aspect ratio to 16:9 as its better to use the full sensor area to have the option to reframe your shot slightly, or "pan and scan" i.e. have the option to animate the shot vertically in post.

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  Рік тому +2

      If you shoot in Raw you are not actually deleting any pixels and you can still recover the 3:2 aspect ratio in post. 16:9 is a useful composition tool.

      I believe exposure times longer than 30 seconds require BULB mode on all cameras except the A7RV. You cannot select BULB mode when you have selected Interval Shooting on the A7IV as there would be no way to determine the length of the exposure on the camera. You could, however, do this by purchasing a cheap ($20) Intervalometer from Amazon or eBay.

    Hi, it would be great to know, if there is an option on a7V or a7iii of interval shooting, with tracking AF. I would like to make a family session, put my camera on a stative and to be able to get some on focus images, while we are moving, walking and changing positions/ lifestyle family session. Would be great to get your feedback on this. Many thx

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills

      The Shoot Interval Priority will preserve the interval in seconds even if the exposure is longer than the interval. This will result in unexposed images as the light fades.

    Hey. that's a nice explanation but I have a question regarding the Interval priority , If i set it to ON, and set the interval to 10", when my scene has pretty low light and Shutter speed does slow down to 10", then the Interval and Shutter speed both are 10" and there is no time for the camera to save photo in memory card, what will happen now? General speaking whenever SS >= Interval, what happens?

    but the time is reported as 3 min. Do I misunderstand? Kind of wothless for night fotog. I know I can calulate it but maybe not soo well at 2 am. ;-) (A7RIV)

    So with Shoot Interval Priority On with intervals set to 60 seconds, the auto shutter in Aperture priority will be maxed out at 50 seconds?

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  Рік тому

      I think you will find 30 seconds is the maximum exposure time with the Interval Shooting function. I think you would need an external Intervalometer to use shutter speeds longer than 30 seconds. With exposure longer than 30 seconds you need to consider how you will manage long exposure noise reduction.

    nice tuto. I don't understand 1/4sec at F/6.3 and iso 100 topic. I suppose you are for intance at 1/125sec and you use 5 stop ND filter to have 1/4sec ? is 1/4sec better than 1/60 or 1/125ec ? do you have video examples comparing speeds ?

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  2 роки тому

      There are examples in my eBooks (available from Patreon.com). If your shutter speed is only a small fraction of the interval between exposures each frame will appear to jump from one frame to the next. This leads to what many refer to as stuttering or the creation of a 'choppy video'.

    Hello quick question i have owned 3 sony cameras and my newest one a6400 cannot find the ability to crop photoes and save it. I have found the option to enlarge photoes but not crop and save. Its such a basic feature on most cameras. It comes in handy with macro photography to crop in a little right on the spot. I have searched the entire menu system and found nothing .

      Re-focusing is a serious problem when shooting images for a Timelapse movie. If you want the camera to refocus you should use an external intervalometer.

      @@AlphaCreativeSkills I guess the scenario is when i travel by myself i put my canon in photo interval shooting and enable continues focus. This allows me to take many photos of myself or surrounding area in selfie style. Where with the Sony its always out of focus because it will not re focus. I just want to take 10 photos in sequence with focus. So its not for movies but the same idea. I also setup the tripod and do a walk in lets say a forest with multiple images towards or away from the camera with focus but I just cant figure it out with the Sony. What about the Sony app. Would that work. Thanks. Sorry for rant but its bugging me because I use this type of photography. Thanks for listening. Ps. Just picked up the Sigma 24-70 Art to replace my kit lens and Im very happy with the photos. Oh also the 4k HS 422 10 bit is the same size file as the. H264 video with same settings. Shouldnt the H265 have smaller files. I tried same settings same frame rate and same length of video on a same subject.
