My Surgeon did a great job on my knees. In 2019 I had both knees replaced five months apart. I have the “Press Fit” implants and I have had zero problems. Physical therapy is extremely important and I got excellent results as I worked very hard..
I would really like to see a video where you talk about the pain management after a total knee replacement. I live in chronic pain due to rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. My total knee replacement was absolutely the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life. I would rather give birth to 10 pound babies 10 times a day with no drugs than to ever have a total knee replacement again. The severe pain lasted four months postoperatively.
I need, or that's what I've been told, a total knee replacement left knee. And your comment has me praying for you and all the pain you are experiencing. I am not looking forward to this mostly because I have no one to help me after. 🙏🙏🙏
I feel the same as you do, I had total knee replacement surgery 2 years ago on my right knee, I was in extreme pain afterwards and was told to go home the following day which I ended up staying in hospital for 5 days, they gave me a nerve block after the surgery which did not work, making you stand and walk on that leg was agony and 2 years later, I'm still having pain in that knee and they want me to have my left knee replaced too and I am not wanting to do the other knee because I don't want to go through the pain of the surgery again and have pain still years later 😿😪 I hope that you get some relief soon, sorry for the long message

My dad was 80 when he had it done, brutal recovery pain. He said no way is he doing the other knee. If they use a local pain pump it would help with recovery pain.
I was told its your health insurance that decides if you stay in hospital or outpstient surgery. Doctor needs to explain why you need to be in the hospital. I had my 2 knee replacements done in the hospital.@@patriciacampbell8262
Physical therapy is so important!! I had full knee joint replacement a year ago my knee was bad it took from 1:30pm to 5:30pm to do my surgery and it was honestly the worst pain ever I stayed in the hospital for them to manage my pain for 3days. Yes it was scary, PAINFUL, well worth it. I can do so much more!!!
Back surgery IS ROUGH....I had spinal fusion once and laminectomy twice. Spinal fusion has difficult recovery. Now I'm looking at TKR, right side first .
I had knee cap replacement surgery, i didn’t have anaesthesia I had an epidural and a sedative , I was asleep the whole procedure, woke up feeling great but i did stay in hospital overnight, although I didn’t actually get any sleep due to discomfort and not being in my own bed 😮
I had a full knee replacement. My surgeon used the Mako robot. Basically, it scanned my knee, then my surgeon drilled sensors in my leg to guide the robot arm. Then, it mapped out on the screen, the areas where cutting was needed. The surgeon could only move the saw to those specific areas, he could not deviate on his own. This provided me with a more precise surgery, therefore, less trauma on my knee and it dramatically shortened my recovery time. Went in at 7am, I went home by 2pm. I was walking at home, using a walker by 4pm. I did not even need any pain meds. Do your research. Check into the Mako system, if you are planning a knee replacement. UA-cam has many videos explaining this procedure.
I appreciate the time you took for explaining your knee replacement process, I read the whole thing and learned some stuff like that the saw could only go to specific areas in your knee that we designated already and I hope other people learn from this and I hope your knee is doing well and you
Mako is a great procedure definitely did not reduce my pain. Used mako on partial and total. I also feel if you are out of alignment, before surgery, mako just aligns you as is. Idk. I had sciatica and all kinds of issues after.
It is awful to be sent home right away after surgeries like this. I had reconstructive surgery on my foot. I was sent home a few hours later. I became very sick from the results of the anesthesia all the way home. I think that patients should stay overnight in the hospital after surgery.
It's criminal how fast they want people out of the hospital because insurance doesn't want to pay. Especially if you live alone, what the hell are you supposed to do when you're in a condition that actually needs hospitalization ??!!!
I am scheduled for a total knee replacement in October ..... and the having the other one done 4 weeks later in November. Hang fellas, its going to be wild ride. 🤪
I had onne replacement in 2013, and second one 2014. Spent one night both times. Never had one pain.had excellent dr. Now ,10 yrs later both need to be re-done. I have severe osteoporosis, so that could be the reason i need another replacement.
My knees were replaced 94 days apart in June and September 2021, Mako robot assisted surgeries done outpatient. I recovered quickly both times and feel fantastic 3 years later.
And my son, who's a PT, sees them in a couple days, and discharges them in 3-4 weeks. Their recovery time is so dependent on the surgery and skill of the surgeon.
If they don’t send a patient home with the proper amounts of pain medications, then it also restricts how well patients recover especially during those initial days and weeks of recovery
Right?!? I had a TKR and was in hospital 4 days. I was only 39, so I should have had the best chance of going home before a 65 year old. It was the worst pain of my life.
I was sick when sent home after surgery on my foot. I started to bleed out while laying in my own bed. Every patient should be kept in the hospital overnight
@@tieiatalks I had mine at 42. Was knee surgery #7 on that knee. I was in 2.5 days. I was in a lot of pain that first 3 weeks. In hospital was on dilaudid pca with oral percocet on top of that. That was 9.5 yrs ago. I don't see them being that generous with pain meds these days.

12 years ago I had total replacement of both knees at the same time. I know some time has passed and I hope what you're saying is true, but I think you're giving a bit of false hope! I was in the hospital 5 days and in the rehab center 12 days. My recovery took 3 months til I could walk without a cane. You totally leave out the discussion of how to regain range of motion and the necessity for pain killers to rehabilitate.
I've had 36 surgical operations, to date, with the longest being a spinal fusion in 1999. A few years ago I had my left knee replaced. By far, this was the most painful surgical recovery I've ever had. Hopefully, before my other knee surgery, they will have figured out how to control that pain!
I am looking into the Jiffy Knee replacement. A relative had it and it was minimally invasive, they go through the side so they don't cut muscle or tendons, and recovery time is way shorter. My first TKR was extremely painful. Natural childbirth with a 9 1/2 lb baby was less painful!
I did one of mine one year ago. At the moment, the next one is acting up. I am dreading the pain and I hope to put it off as long as possible. You have to be wean from those drugs before you become dependent on them. The key my doctor gave me for recovery was to try to move my leg every hour upon the hour. I am happy with the results because I hardly limp. However, pain is not my best friend. I’ll wait a while and exercise.
Yes, I know! I’m a healthy 55-year-old that had it done and was sent home after three days the first time and two days the second time. The second time, I was given oxycodone that day before leaving, but there was a bit of a delay in getting me home. My wife couldn’t get me my prescriptions on time, because there was going to be a two hour delay at Walgreens. I was suffering excruciating pain for at least three or four hours before I finally got them. But two weeks later I’m driving again and stopped using the narcotics 5 days ago. Knee replacements are a toss-up.
I had two partial knee replacements, one six months ago. The doctor used a robot on my second one, and I keep envisioning Rosie from The Jetsons helping my doctor.
I had a right knee THR a year ago. I stayed inpatient for 2 days. The second TKR was 4 months ago (6mo after 1st). Stayed inpatient 3 days. Worst pain ever for 3+ months. I had sciatica with left TKR and needed cortisone shots in spine to reduce the intense pain in left hip and whole leg. Those pain blocks for surgery aren't always perfect. I think my sciatic nerve got nicked when they gave the nerve block for TKR.

Nowadays, it's all about the money!! The surgeon's go by what the insurance company's will pay for and how long of a stay . So it's like that hamburger place . In N out . I was supposed to have total left knee replacement YEARS ago . Didn't like what the first surgeon said , so I ended up seeing 4 different surgeon's altogether. Didn't like what none of them said ! ( long story ) Till this day, I haven't had the surgery. I'm in pain if I stand or walk to much , like steps , standing in lines , etc . But I don't take pain pills at all . I just limit myself through out the day and don't go overboard. But when I do go overboard, I pay for it and have to stay off my feet for a few days . Prayers for everyone who needs knee or hip surgery. ✝️🛐
Was scrolling through wondering the same thing. Never seen that way before. Typically someone takes the place of that stirrup and stands at the foot of the bed and holds the foot to elevate the leg so it doesn't get contaminated while it's being prepped. After that the surgical techs will come in place drapes down and take the foot from the person with a stockinette. That's the most common method I've seen. This method in the video seems unnecessary and lazy. Now someone has to get the ankle out of the holder and undo the stirrup which means an unsterile person is close to the sterile field. Lots of moving parts and potentially a way to contaminate the field. If anyone has seen this method done before and knows it works I'm sorry for doubting it, however I would avoid this if possible.
How anyone can go home the same day after a total knee replacement is beyond me. I have had many ops. Orthopaedic ally on my knees plus a spinal fusion, and I have never known pain like the pain from my knee replacement. I wonder if I was even given pain meds it was so terrible. Plus I ended up in ICU for a day or two, where I was bellowing about the pain at one stage. Never again. When my left knee packs up I'll go the wheelchair route thank you.
@@scoopof3d Yes, totally pain-free. It's been four years now. Actually, now and again I get a burning sensation under my knee cap. But not often and not for long.
My surgeon also used the mako robotic arm, and I had no problems with either of my knee replacements. You have to commit to the PT, it's essential to regain your mobility.
My surgeon was great but I am still in love with my physio therapist. Yes, even with good insurance, i gladly paid for weekly sessions for 3 months. I'd chide him saying, "I don't know why I'm paying you because you make me cry." He was every penny as I have had virtually no pain and when another PT showed me how to do quad stretches. The store-bought knees are now more than 10 years old and work perfectly. It's different for each patient but the concept of a quick discharge scares me. Pain management has improved with drugs like oxy bit a patient really needs PT snd being bullied into doing his/her evercises.
My mom needs both knees replaced and the comments on this are kind of scaring me. She’s a really tough woman, but she’s already in so much pain right now I can’t imagine it getting any worse 😢 I’m hoping those stories are exceptions and not common
I had mine total knee replacement two days ago...first day after was fine, not much pain, today I cannot bend my leg, when I walk with the walker, I can hear a distintive POP, POP every step I take, is that normal?
I wish i could have knee replacements 😢i have bad arthritis throughout body and sever protruding bony growth on knee cap and patella and did have one knee operated on removing the growth (because they broke offer near the patellar tendon which helped so much with pain) but i just turned 40 and drs dont want to do it now...
The orthopedic surgeon I talked to does that procedure. It’s the “quad saving cut”. I will only go to a surgeon who does that cut plus uses robotic assistance to spare you from having too much bone cut!
Had a rd accident. Terrific. In hospital 🏥 6 weeks . 5 flat in bed like a plank of wood . Polly trauma . Right leg full in metals top to bottom. Now talking about left knee rep 😢. I dont think here 🇬🇧 dr let u to choose what procedure u want
I just had a full knee replacement on August 8th. I had to stay over night because the shot for nerve block he gave me I couldn't lift my leg . I'm doing good though pain is bad
I worked at the table with some of the crazy and brilliant Ortho surgeons and did many many hips, knees and other parts too. Lv Ortho surgery but some of the surgeons were goofy! True.
The PT is the key. My son's rule is minimal pain and typically gets the patient discharged in 3-4 weeks. He's had several patients who felt that their experience with him was so positive that if they needed their other knee replaced, they would do it as soon as possible.
No quiero ver !
Yes, it’s amazing how quickly people are sent home after major procedures - I went home 12 hours after a laparoscopic hysterectomy in 2018; the trip home seemed to last for an eternity, with discomfort and vomiting As a 1958 Baby 😎, I’ve reached The Age Of Replacements - at least one hip one on knee could stand to be replaced, and the other hip and knee don’t feel all that great. As I’m on maintenance treatment for cancer with bevacizumab, my oncologist has nixed any surgery; my orthopedist is pursuing a conservative course with injections, use of a cane and painkillers when necessary, but said he’ll confer with my oncologist if things get worse. I’ve wondered if I were to be assimilated by the Borg, if they’d replace both hips and knees? 😛😎. It would be less complicated than dealing with Medicare…
Not 100% true. I have had a partial and then a total on same knee… partial didn’t hold. I feel if it didn’t work or glue/cement comes loose, it should be warranted especially after a year you are still experiencing the same pain as before surgery. It’s not a walk in the park by any means.
Yet you still use the 30 year-old forced air warming (Bair Hugger) technology rather than conductive warming!? So you work in a laminator flow room, try to mitigate surgical site and deep joint infections, yet blow waste heat, ionized air around your OR!? How does that make any sense!?
It’s awful. I found out I was allergic to Codene so no Vicodin for me! Ugh!!! Morphine only helps when there’s enough to knock you out! Also, yes you do have withdrawals! Try everything else first. Rooster comb is one a friends used at the VA so far it’s been 11 years and still no knee replacement for him. I need the other knee done, I’m waiting and then going the Rooster Comb route. All the best!!!

In N out .
I was supposed to have total left knee replacement YEARS ago . Didn't like what the first surgeon said , so I ended up seeing 4 different surgeon's altogether.
Didn't like what none of them said ! ( long story )
Till this day, I haven't had the surgery.
✝️🛐
I did stay over night in the hospital I'm glad I did the nurses took really good care of me!!
Had mine done two months ago I was in and out same day. But the recovery is long very long!!
I have to have a full knee replacementim so scared
Had both mine replaced...but don't want to watch how it was done! 😬
Good doctor service God bless🙏
Im 21 now and messing up my knees from running and cycling. Good to know I'm in good hands to get them replaced by the time im 40
Switch to walking and swimming it’s not worth it. Low impact exercises are far better long term.
@@Appaddict01 yeah but running and cycling is what makes me happy. Hiking is fun too though so I may do some more walking 👍
You have no idea what you are setting yourself up for !
Is this place a mechanic shop or a surgery center? I'm confused🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You nailed it!
I've had 2 replacement surgeries and no idea they hang your leg up like that, or any way.
Flash Back. (Waking up to… The Blue Suits.) 17 & 15 yrs. later. Both still working. Thanks to Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. 👍🏾
When my left knee packs up I'll go the wheelchair route thank you.
but are you pain free now?
@@scoopof3d Yes, totally pain-free. It's been four years now. Actually, now and again I get a burning sensation under my knee cap. But not often and not for long.
SSF Kaiser we did 5 total hips / knees in 8 hour shift bouncing from one suite to the other. TKR in avg 63 min's.
Make sure your surgeon has a robot assisting him. Also should have over five hundred surgeries under his belt. My docs robot was Mako
My surgeon also used the mako robotic arm, and I had no problems with either of my knee replacements. You have to commit to the PT, it's essential to regain your mobility.
Great, I'm getting one
My surgeon was great but I am still in love with my physio therapist. Yes, even with good insurance, i gladly paid for weekly sessions for 3 months. I'd chide him saying, "I don't know why I'm paying you because you make me cry." He was every penny as I have had virtually no pain and when another PT showed me how to do quad stretches.
The store-bought knees are now more than 10 years old and work perfectly. It's different for each patient but the concept of a quick discharge scares me. Pain management has improved with drugs like oxy bit a patient really needs PT snd being bullied into doing his/her evercises.
Scary surgery 😮.
My mom needs both knees replaced and the comments on this are kind of scaring me. She’s a really tough woman, but she’s already in so much pain right now I can’t imagine it getting any worse 😢 I’m hoping those stories are exceptions and not common
I was ready for apmutation, whatever is less pain becaude from gout I lnow limited mobility regarding the knees is EXTREMELY painful!
I had mine total knee replacement two days ago...first day after was fine, not much pain, today I cannot bend my leg, when I walk with the walker, I can hear a distintive POP, POP every step I take, is that normal?
Talk to your surgeon immediately and also notify your primary care provider
No that is not normal, just had 1 done 4 weeks ago
I had a total knee replacement with 3D robotic assisted sx., 5 months ago. I still have major pain and swelling! Who are you kidding??
I wish i could have knee replacements 😢i have bad arthritis throughout body and sever protruding bony growth on knee cap and patella and did have one knee operated on removing the growth (because they broke offer near the patellar tendon which helped so much with pain) but i just turned 40 and drs dont want to do it now...
And to think I may have to get one, resulting from a Complete and Chronic ACL tear and MCL sprain.
Do you do the surgery where you pull the muscles, ligaments to the side to replace knee rather than cut them?
It’s not always the best option to try and rush people out the door as fast as possible.
Which hospital and where is this hospital?
Going home the same day you have the knee replacement is not always the best there was complications for me
I worked at the table with some of the crazy and brilliant Ortho surgeons and did many many hips, knees and other parts too. Lv Ortho surgery but some of the surgeons were goofy! True.
I'm scheduled for knee replacement in about a week and a half. Is that what I am in for?
How did it go? Are you happy you did it?
Do you use C-ARM with this procedure?
That just seems like soooo much pain!
The PT is the key. My son's rule is minimal pain and typically gets the patient discharged in 3-4 weeks. He's had several patients who felt that their experience with him was so positive that if they needed their other knee replaced, they would do it as soon as possible.
She got her knees done
No quiero ver !
Yes I just had mine but while or can you do lipo while getting a knee
Most painful surgery I’ve ever had. Both my knees and both shoulders. It is worth the pain but it takes about one year to recover.
i have had 3 tkr the first one at 35. the last fell apart should i be worried about a 4 th one im 59 years old
Yes, it’s amazing how quickly people are sent home after major procedures - I went home 12 hours after a laparoscopic hysterectomy in 2018; the trip home seemed to last for an eternity, with discomfort and vomiting
As a 1958 Baby 😎, I’ve reached The Age Of Replacements - at least one hip one on knee could stand to be replaced, and the other hip and knee don’t feel all that great.
What do you consider a very long time?
The drilling machine 💀
Wow UA-cam shorts is scary because I need a knee replacement and now I'm seeing this....wtf UA-cam
Not 100% true. I have had a partial and then a total on same knee… partial didn’t hold. I feel if it didn’t work or glue/cement comes loose, it should be warranted especially after a year you are still experiencing the same pain as before surgery. It’s not a walk in the park by any means.
how did you cope at home?
Remind me to avoid this procedure
Home the same day?!!!WOW!
Nice, I'll take 2 please
Yet you still use the 30 year-old forced air warming (Bair Hugger) technology rather than conductive warming!? So you work in a laminator flow room, try to mitigate surgical site and deep joint infections, yet blow waste heat, ionized air around your OR!? How does that make any sense!?
The patient must have had Medicare Advantage insurance.
Are all your videos with real patients?
Had mine outpatient and I am THRILLED with my outcome.
