Totally agree that the trailer and box Art don't do this game justice. For instance it looks like the game character is woke because of his haircut/ makeup etc. They should have kept the original look of prince of persia, and yes you can change that in the settings, but you wouldn't know by watching the trailer. Also they completely failed to include beautiful women in the game. There is not even one !! All the female characters are purposefully made ugly. Is this to please modern audiences? They completely ignore the fact that the gameplay and premise in PoP: TLC is like the perfect marriage between SoT gameplay mechanics and the vintage gameplay of the 2D classics. All that wasted energy on crying rather than enjoying. Although this heavily social media influencer/streamer influenced era of gaming is incredibly entitled, looking back, I recall the PoP fanbase has always been a particularly anal and fickle lot, frequently judging every entry on the merit of it not being SoT. No matter how great each installment was by virtue of its own merit and innovations it introduced, it was usually accompanied with a plethora of whining and viewed with nostalgia goggles. None was judged more unfairly by the base than PoP 2008, which was essentially the "Forspoken" of its generation. I just started replaying Sands of Time. In all honesty, it hasn't aged well. The combat is stiff and the voice acting isn't the best. There is definitely something special there though in terms of the environments, parkour, and music. It was the start of something great. Lost crown was phenomenal. I don't compare it to any other PoP. It is its own special game! I thought the 2.5D perspective would bother me, but it didn't. The Ubisoft PoP trilogy are some of my favorte games. Sands of time was an important cornerstone for 3D platformers and it is still a good game, but is has some a few dogshit elements to it.
Why I won't be playing it, despite this positive review and being a Prince of Persia fan since the early 90s: Ubisoft. The PC version will only be on their own store and Epic Games to begin with, with no word of a Steam release. When it does eventually come to Steam, it'll be plastered with the usual warnings (Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-tamper, Requires 3rd-Party Account: Ubisoft Connect account, Requires agreement to a 3rd-party EULA). You say that Ubisoft is trying to repair its reputation but they still engage in what I consider to be anti-consumer practices, and the only even remotely effective protest I have is to not give them my money.
I get your point, but then why not just buy the console version? You're not going to see much of a difference on PC if at all due to the chosen art direction. I picked up a ps5 copy of this after I played it on PC just so i own a physical version.
Fortnite doesn't get to claim a stranglehold on this art style. Simple fact is, this game is fun to play and uses this new art direction to its full potential
when it comes to action/adventure genre nothing beats metroidvania games for me. the mystery, traps, free open world, exploration, variety of areas, so many items to discover, so many secrets/unlockables... and I can see that this game truly focus on persian mythology/history for lore/items/buildings which is really nice. I just wish main hero was a persian prince. that's the whole point of the game that you play as an adventurous/acrobatic time manipulating prince. that's a huge negative point for me.
No, that was never the point about PoP. The point was having Arabian-esque adventures, where ANYONE can be the hero...you don't have to be the Prince of Persia to be the hero...SoT never started this series, before that, you were just some guy who became the prince only after completing his first adventure in game, not before and 2008 had just a thief call himself prince, but isn't the one. Elika was the true Prince of Persia, that is, the Princess of Persia, since she is a woman and the actual royal character that follows us together to the end of the story, even if the ending was a failure, most of it before was great, but not the ending. Titles have often different meanings depending on context, for instance Legend of Zelda is NOT the one whom the story really revolves that much around, Link is the hero. Legend of Koizumi however is about Koizumi, he is the main character, yet both titles work, why? Cuz not everything has the same meaning, stories often have different meanings and ethics, they aren't all the same.
How many other franchises do they own that started 2D, went 3D, and went back to 2D? I can only think of rayman & this prince of persia.. both of which were done by the same studio lol
But does your version contain DRM? And will the general public get a stuttering mess, because of said DRM? This has happened a lot lately, when reviewers get games early. Great video though👍🏻
This game looks great but I don't get why comparing it with SoT, the gameplay is completely different. It's like saying Super Mario Wonder is Better than Super Mario Galaxy. Don't get me wrong, I like a good Metroidvania game but it's on a different category. Now, compare this one to Ori and the Blind Forest and you pretty much have the exact same game with a different skin.
Prince of Persia has very distinctive qualities across each title. They center around some form of classic middle eastern folklore, they feature challenging platforming, and they feature intense swordplay. I believe this game is better because it does more with its theme than sands of time did, it has far better platforming mechanics and challenges, and the combat is not only more fluid and expansive, but it even is mixed in WITH the platforming, something sands of time simply did not do. Therefore, yes, its better than sands of time You're focusing way too much on the 3D vs 2D thing. That's irrelevant
@@kerstin1719 I haven't played TLC yet, I meant that in the sense that both are metroidvania style games with challenging platforming where you access new areas as you get new abilities. The combat system in TLC looks way more ellaborate tho and there are probably more differences. I was just using Ori as an example of a more similar game since SoT is a 3rd person linear platformer.
@@Nick930 Yeah let's compare few decades old game that had max resolution of 1024x768 and put this franchise on the map to a game released a while ago. You can't say no to click bait?
I'll have to agree with this. I recently replayed Sands of Time and the first half of the game is so strong. But it's grt so boring and repetitive as it goes on. I still love it tho. This new game is fun as hell.
@@jeggsonvohees2201It is because of the "black" protag...with spiky hair and the horrendous rap music they played during the trailer. Looks like the actual game does have some fairly authentic arabian music.....but the choice of rap music for the trailer did make the Ubi marketing team look clueless wrt their target audience.
@@main_stream_media_is_a_jokeI’ll never understand why they put rap (and I mean not even good rap or one that is fitting) in game trailers, remember that one Doom Eternal TV spot?
@@Nick930 Agree....but even that music had some touch of Arabic music. How would people react if the next CoD Normandy beach landing trailer had Niki Minaj Anaconda music as background score? The music has to flow with the theme that the game is setting out to portray.
Bro if you play the game you know that, spoiler alert...... ..... that in the prophecy of one of the secondary mission, you understand that Sargon is the second prince in the game with Varham being is half-brother and Ghassan is not the real one (Varham reveal as a prince is also shown in more than one main cutscenes), so yeah in the end YOU PLAY AS THE PRINCE OF PERSIA, wat a plot twist.
My introduction to the series was through warrior within. However i still feel the old trilogy was different enough for me to do multiple playthroughs, and i still have fond memories of the games. Sure, they definitely don't stack up to today's standards. This game just seems like another side scrolling action platformer to me. Might change my mind once i know more about it, i guess.
the main character here looks more African and modern than anyone else I've seen. They should've gone for a brown guy with beard and it would've been so much cooler if they went for that. Would've fitted much better. Idk why but this guy reminds me more of Black Panther's absolutely mid villain than any arabic guy.
@@LDFrost117 this is prince of persia, not prince of uganda or something, should be more middle eastern than african. Not saying they're exclusive but it feels more modernized and american-ified. Take a look at Bayek, from AC Origins, looked like he was from the middle east really.
@@tigransafaryan6619 Dude, what? The game that you're whining about is them continuing to develop the franchise. You not liking it doesn't change that fact.

@@LDFrost117 Stylized graphics usually age better than realistic ones. Art can be timeless, but technology always evolves and improves. Hard to believe I once though Call of Duty(2003) is the most realistic video game graphics will ever get.
Techincally speaking this is an actual PoP game, because it goes back to it’s roots being a 2D side scroller/metroidvania instead of being a 3D action-adventure with parkour.
Sure, I just think most people fell in love with PoP with the sands of time trilogy... So that's what most people want. Plus the vibe of the original 2D PoP was completely different. The lost Crown looks more like a cartoonish mobile game tbh...
@@Nick930 Jokes aside, the combat of Sands of Time aged badly, so yeah... but the charm of that game is eternal. You say that like its a bad thing. Immortals was a surprisingly good game. It borrowed from BOTW for sure, but BOTW borrowed from assassins creed quite a bit.. fair is fair lol
@@Nick930 I prefer legendary games to sustain their identity, especially when we re talking about a big comeback. Yes Immortal Fenyx Rising is a great game, its a cartoonish AC Odyssey and i love it, but i grew up with Prince of Persia and i was expecting something different.
Game looks good, but it’s full price at 70 with what looks like a one run through type game. No replayability factor here from what I can see. Sands of time is a goated game.
I can't take the Fortnite looking main character seriously.
Fortnite doesn't get to claim a stranglehold on this art style.
Simple fact is, this game is fun to play and uses this new art direction to its full potential
Can’t stand the anime art style
@@Nick930 I mean, with how absolutely monumentally popular it is I think it kind of does get to claim that stranglehold.
when it comes to action/adventure genre nothing beats metroidvania games for me. the mystery, traps, free open world, exploration, variety of areas, so many items to discover, so many secrets/unlockables... and I can see that this game truly focus on persian mythology/history for lore/items/buildings which is really nice.
@@basilofgoodwishes4138 Well said
Do you mean sands of time on ps2 or that old ass one because prince of persia sands of time on ps2 is one of the best games ever made
There's literally only one "sands of time"
So yes. The one on ps2, the one that is shown multiple times in this video
Jak and Dexter like this please on god!!!
And only the second franchise Ubisoft has successfully returned to it's 2D roots
How many other franchises do they own that started 2D, went 3D, and went back to 2D?
I can only think of rayman & this prince of persia.. both of which were done by the same studio lol
better than sands of time? For me this new one is very forgettable, sands you remember it to this day
"Forgettable" the game literally hasn't even come out to the pulbic yet, what is there to remember right now? A freaking demo?
@jinxsfullgames you’re just mad that the MC is black & not a YTwashed “persian”
@@LDFrost117 I already beat the game, I had early access. It took me 15 hours, I liked the game, but I still think it's pretty forgettable
@@troydixon5304 It's you saying my friend, the stupidest thing is to judge the game by the character's appearance, I don't give a damn about that.
Yo is that phoenix from valorant
exactly what I was thinking.
A persian protagonist without their majestic smooth long hair feels odd tho we already have that.
Hes not "persian", he's basically a mercenary.
But does your version contain DRM? And will the general public get a stuttering mess, because of said DRM? This has happened a lot lately, when reviewers get games early. Great video though👍🏻
It didnt stutter for me. I noted some lower than expected performance in some rare instances, but i didnt experience any stuttering in my playthrough
It's not a demanding AAA game so I doubt it'll stutter, i know what you're taling about (the mirage fiasco)
this game is mid at best, BUGISOFT throwing money on "reviewers" while they are sinking is not the best idea.. 🤷🏻♂️ 🤦🏻♂️ 🤕 👀 🧠
Put some respect on sands of time name 😤
I did. That's how good this new game is.
Therefore, yes, its better than sands of time
You're focusing way too much on the 3D vs 2D thing. That's irrelevant
Saying that The Lost Crown and The Blind Forest are "pretty much the same game" makes me wonder if you've played either one of them.
So disappointing that ppl are writing this game off because it’s a 2d side scroller or that the graphics don’t match today’s standards.
It probably has more to do with sime people hating that it has a black lead instead of a Persian one.
Sands of time uses distorted electric guitar.
Lol since when has this series been known for "authentic arabic music"?
@@main_stream_media_is_a_jokeI’ll never understand why they put rap (and I mean not even good rap or one that is fitting) in game trailers, remember that one Doom Eternal TV spot?
@@Nick930 Agree....but even that music had some touch of Arabic music.
How would people react if the next CoD Normandy beach landing trailer had Niki Minaj Anaconda music as background score?
The music has to flow with the theme that the game is setting out to portray.
A Prince of Persia game where you don't play as the Prince... Greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat....
Ive got some bad news for you about the original prince of persia my friend.
You probably were those people who believed that a Legend Of Zelda game has to have you play Zelda
FALSE. This miles morales platformer has nothing on Sands of Time. Give us the remake we all want Ubisoft!!
What does this even mean
he has nostalgia issue's@@RetiredAddict
The remake looks awful, also that first comment... "tell me you're racist without telling me you're racist"
@LadyFrost117 he definitely racist😂
Sure it's better then Sands of Time, anyone can see that without any controversy - but is it better then _the Shadow and the Flame?_
Lol idk man. Those medusa heads and snakes are PEAK enemy design
For real - stuff of nightmares when then go *Ahhhhhhh!* back you into a corner and gnash _BLAGH BLAGH BLAGH!_
Is there some answer for the black hair for a Prince of Persia protagonist? Of it is just some woke bullshit?
Weird long winded way of expressing dislike for black people
@@LDFrost117 this is prince of persia, not prince of uganda or something, should be more middle eastern than african. Not saying they're exclusive but it feels more modernized and american-ified. Take a look at Bayek, from AC Origins, looked like he was from the middle east really.
@@kaiserfakinaway5909 "Prince of Uganda", alright we get it, you're racist, saying the N-word would be more straightforward at this point
@kaiserfakinaway5909 but I bet you loved the YTwashed MC of the 2000s games huh😂
@@troydixon5304 Forget that, he probably wanted something like Jake Gyllenhaal's version
No one cares about this game. The fans are waiting for the sands of time remake.
Yeah. Innovation is crap, just give us recycled ideas and remakes dammit!
I care keep yapping about nostalgia
@@Zachriel2007 well, they obviosly are not going to continue to develop the franchise, so at least give us something that was great in the past.
@@tigransafaryan6619 Dude, what? The game that you're whining about is them continuing to develop the franchise. You not liking it doesn't change that fact.
@@tigransafaryan6619 This game, this game right here is them continuing to develop the franchise, and it's getting good reviews from everyone.
You have some balls to say the truth 👍
the art direction is 🤮
Please explain. You’re not the only one that’s said that
@@Koalalover70 some people don't like stylistic art direction. They want hyper realistic ones like rdr2. That's pretty much it. Not blaming them cause I myself was like that once.
@@beng2469 If only they knew how hard it to develop Video Games with “hyper realistic graphics”. I mean Yoshi's Island still looks really good graphical. And that’s from 1995
@@beng2469 I remember when people lost their minds back when Legend of Zelda Wind Waker was revealed, so angry it didn't looked like a hyper realistic fantasy world, which we then got with Twilight Princess and look I adore that game, but visually Wind Waker has aged considerably better by not aiming for "realism"
@@LDFrost117 Stylized graphics usually age better than realistic ones. Art can be timeless, but technology always evolves and improves. Hard to believe I once though Call of Duty(2003) is the most realistic video game graphics will ever get.
Would be amazing if we'd get an actual PoP game one day....
Literally the most prince of persia game right here man. Feels more like the classic mechner titles than anything ubi did after sands of time
Techincally speaking this is an actual PoP game, because it goes back to it’s roots being a 2D side scroller/metroidvania instead of being a 3D action-adventure with parkour.
Sure, I just think most people fell in love with PoP with the sands of time trilogy... So that's what most people want. Plus the vibe of the original 2D PoP was completely different. The lost Crown looks more like a cartoonish mobile game tbh...
Don't you dare
I just did. What you gonna do!? *tears shirt off* lets go!
@@Nick930 Jokes aside, the combat of Sands of Time aged badly, so yeah... but the charm of that game is eternal. I know you are click baiting, still, this can be a legit discussion, this game is receiving a lot of praise even with the horrendous "prince" redesign (in the end, it's just a minor annoyance)
@RRRRRRRRR33 im not. This is my genuine opinion after having played BOTH games. This is a good experience and players hoping for a good prince of persia game are in for a treat here
And sargon is not "the prince"
We can’t compare 3D to a platformer. Nick, wtf :D
This game looks really bad, overstylized etc. Wait for a demo.
...there already is a demo
I love you Nick but come on, that hyperbole thumbnail "better than sands of time" a game that came out 20 years ago, you could have find something better as a title card
Looks super low budget unfortunately but I guess the gameplay is there
Weird to see Ubisoft make something actually newand not a rehash
Immortals Fenyx Rising but side scroller.
Yes Immortal Fenyx Rising is a great game, its a cartoonish AC Odyssey and i love it, but i grew up with Prince of Persia and i was expecting something different.
..erh, what's modern culture telling(Don't Piss ANYONE off)?
The clixkbait is strong on this one.
Except its not clickbait. I provide multiple examples throughout this video to support my opinion here.
It stars a stromg black protaganist, of course the game is going to be better than SOT.❤
And it is simultaneously why people will have it as their most hated game 😂, you can just see the racism already on the comment section
Game looks good, but it’s full price at 70 with what looks like a one run through type game. No replayability factor here from what I can see.
Sands of time is a goated game. Gameplay mechanics are dated obviously but that from what I have seen of this game, I don’t see how it would be better. You could literally rewind time. You can’t on this one.
Nah this is crap, even forgotten sands was better
Oh. You played it already too?
