Love the marvelling segment.🤗 I started gardening in 2022, after my mom passed. It was a great source of comfort, and my playlist while I'm in the garden is full of uplifting and hopeful songs. Over time,my garden of grief has become my garden of joy, and I love to marvel at my happy little plants! 😊🪴🎉
Ohh I love this so much ❤️ Gardening has gotten us through grief too. And I love hearing when people plant in honour of their loved ones. So glad to hear it's helped you process grief and is now a source of joy. Love love love 😊 ❤️
Love your chatty vid as usual. I agree that there should be somewhere to sit in the garden, even if it’s just one stool or comfy rock! Things do grow and cover their neighbour, but then you can move or trim or pot up smaller pieces to share, as I do but I am also in the local organic gardening club, which is a great source of local growing tips and growing conditions of local plants! Keep going!❤❤
Thank you Francke! In future I’d love to be able to propagate the off cuts and give to friends. I’d actually love to be able to propagate my lavender so I can have multiples of it in my own garden when I have space 💕💕
Same...my garden/plants allows me to breath and allows my mind to slow down, letting my spirit/soul rest 😌And I'm mesmerized by what my plants can do too!!! My balcony is fully exposed so my neighbors probably think I'm catatonic or something LOL 😅
Yes. The space gives back to you. Nature can be a teacher and a friend, a refuge. We home gardeners basically get recruited as slaves to these clever little (seemingly innocent) plants to feed and nurture them in return for them showing off! Thanks for spending the time chatting and reflecting.
I started a informal garden after I got diagnosed with anxiety and the first plant I brought was PASSION FLOWER to have my calming tea every time I needed. I love your marveling time but also your chatting ❤
I’m going to redo my front garden starting small because it’s a big frontage and at back I have these wooden beds folding ones I like what you have done very much 🦘❤️🐨
Thanks for another great video. It is always nice to start my Sunday watching your videos and enjoying your garden of beautiful and healthy plants. I notice you have another pot of lovely Jade plant in the pot at 3:22 other than the one you have in your garden bed. Is that a Gollum Jade? I notice you do not have orchids in your garden. Will you be considering having orchids too? I think they will look nice hanging on your garden fences. Thanks
Ohh that’s so sweet, thank you 😊💕 I didn’t see a jade at that timestamp but yes I do have other jades in other spots, both gollum and the regular kind. If I remember I’ll try and point them out in a video! Also, I do have orchids! But they stay indoors. It’s a good idea to see how they’d go under the arbour! I might try that 🌸
Hi Shy, I totally agree with you. Mornings are the best time of day Sunny or not I like it and always rise with crack of dawn. watching the sun rise over nature is magical it’s never the same😊 I also loooove to go for long walks on early weekends mornings. The streets are EMPTY (the only thing I missed from the Covid nightmare)
Your garden is beautiful. 😍 You can create better when you have plants in the ground and able to move them around. They also bounce back better when they are in the soil.
Hi Shy! Loved your thoughts on gardening and seeing your beautiful creations. We have only a small garden and mostly container gardening. But our back deck is 10' off the ground and overlooks a small stream and a stand of woods. That is my space to sit, read, enjoy the deck boxes, visiting bees and hummingbirds and enjoy part of my indoor collection I bring out for the Summer. It's in the back of the house so no one just appears without an invite unlike a front porch. ❤
Awww Molly this sounds like the sweetest little space! And so nice that you get a view of the woods. I love that you get hummingbirds. We don't have them in this part of the world, so I'll have to live vicariously through you! 💕
@the.morning.chorus OH wow Shy you learn something every day! I didn't know you dont' have hummingbirds! And yes, it's a very relaxing space! Please send us good thoughts about our beloved trees. We haven't had any significant rain for many weeks and we have 2,000 acres close to us on fire. We can't keep our windows even cracked because of the smoky smell that permeates the house. Up to 1/4 of an inch of rain is due during the night...I pray it is so!
I love how you’re experimenting with putting your plants into the ground even though you are renting. It’s all a good learning experience. I don’t rent but what I have done with most of my succulents is place the smaller terracotta pots half into the ground so they don’t dry out too much in the heat of Perth’s summer. Our soil is quite heavy & is also full of limestone so it’s a real chore to dig it through which is why I have lots in pots plus a select few in the ground after digging in some lighter soil. My aeoniums seem to tolerate normal soil and do well planted directly in the garden without amending the soil.
@ Sort of, first half of the day they are shaded, then they get afternoon sun. They seem to have adapted quite well. I also have Baby Sun Rose, ( aptenia ) growing in the bed as a groundcover so maybe this is what’s helping them stay cooler.
@@susanlisson7066 I am shooketh! Sounds like they've adapted very well! I've been eyeing off aptenia to replace my portulaca, sounds like a good option!
@@the.morning.chorus The only downside is that it grows like a weed and needs trimming back every month or two but, I love how fresh and green it always looks. I might start growing cuttings in hanging baskets which is another option.
I prune, (and cut my hair) exactly the same as you. It starts well then "too much"😂. Thank you for this!ps here's to career changes for good health and happiness 💪🏼
Your Echeveria Gibbiflora are beautiful. I wonder if you put them all together, in one of those rectangular pots that I see behind you, they might be quite awesome. The two cuts and the two stocks might grow into a show stopping pot of multiple gibbifloras.
Hi Shy, thanks for another AWESOME video! I love when you talk about creativity. I work in a creative art field, mostly teaching ceramic techniques and pottery building methods. I love what I do but I’m worn out. (I’ve been doing this for 20 years) I spend ALL of my time creating art programs, producing them, and ultimately facilitating them. Do you think there is such a thing as being overly creative (or too much creativity)? As in can it be bad for you, so to speak? Just curious to know what your thoughts are?
Ooh I love this response and I love this question!! Thanks Adam 🙂 I don't know if being overly-creative or having too much creativity is bad in itself, but for me, creativity has led to burnout when I produced a lot of work at a surface level (which happened a lot when it became my main job). Churning out ideas quickly can be good for getting initial ideas into the world, but if I don't feel deeply connected to what I'm creating it can start to feel mechanical and hollow. Theatre is also highly collaborative, and consistently creating for others and with others, without taking time to create for myself also diminished my love for it. I really should've invested in trying to find a balance, but I was too far gone in the end and needed to leave...or at least take an indefinitely break. It's wonderful to hear that you love teaching ceramics after all these years, but I totally hear you on being worn out! We gotta look after ourselves! 💕
for that native australian yellow flower i would try cutting more from underneath (or the undercarriage as laura eubanks sometimes calls it lol) the plant instead of from the top/middle next time, but i think it looks fine the way you did it. i also have a hard time figuring out what to cut & then have to cut even more to try to make things look nice again lol. also i look forward to eventually "stealing" your expertise about how to make a succulent & cacti cottage style garden bed :)
It'll take quite a bit of experimenting but I'll definitely share my experience over time! Hmm I tried that before with the chrysocephalum and the flowers on top fell to the sides kind of leaving a hole in the middle of the plant. I think it needs to be a mix.
I started growing cacti and succulents to take photos of them macro pictures they are so beautiful unique weirdos they all have their own little personalities some reach for the sun and others hide from the lights XD
I very much doubt it. They were in the garden when we moved in. These plants are aggressive and fast-spreading, which is why they’re classified as a weed. They’re in flower now, so they’re spreading seeds and growing rapidly. Best to stay on top of them and bag them in plastic to slow the spread.
Ahh Kerrie we decided we’re gonna roll up our sleeves and dig up the plants to move them with us to the new place. And then we start again another garden all over again. It’s gonna be a mega job, but I’d want to take as much as I can with me.
@the.morning.chorus does the landlord approve? I did that once and got into heaps of trouble apparently once a plant goes into the ground the landlord owns it.
@@kerriefearby9542 Those raised beds were completely empty with only a layer of mulch when we first moved in, and like any other part of the house as expected with our tenancy, we will leave it as found 🙂
