Garden Work Day--Japanese Beetles are back and working with Fish Emulsion

Our heat streak here in Northwest Alabama continues so today we are making sure the plants get a good drink of fish emulsion. We use the Alaska Fish Emulsion that is readily available at your local big box store or farm supply store. Ours at Home Depot was $30 for a gallon, but, I see it is on sale at Rural King for $22 now...dang. LOL

I mix in 4 tablespoons into my 2 gallon watering cans. BTW, this stuff is really thick when you first open the jug. I wasn't able to shake the jug as the fish guts were all at the top, so the first two times using it were very chunky. Once I got a bit out of the bottle, I could shake it up good. And I haven't been walking out to the mailbox lately so I missed by a few days the arrival of Japanese beetles on my roses and canna lillies, so, I get on that this morning. This is the spray I use if beetles make an appearance. One bottle last 2-3 seasons.

Why cant you use a hose?

For the beetles? It just knocks them off and the fly back up and continue destroying the foliage. You can hand pick them if you have a small plant or area...just too much area in this case.

And the hoses, even in combination would not reach that far!
