Totally agree. From Squidgy I have learnt and developed a real interest in watching the games with the tier 2 teams with real excitement. The hardest part is which teams to support... I feel I love them all 😂😂

Dont forget they made the RLWC final last year. I know its different from Rugby Union, but our community thrives off other brothers success. They will want to emulate the performance the Toa Samoa did in the League World Cup! Making the final. Big ask but hope its motivational.

Samoa are starting to show the signs of the benefit that Moana Pasifika is trying to produce with greater professionalism and a better pathway. Hopefully Miracle Fai'ilagi gets some game time and shows the same form he did for MP - he's a hell of a talent.

Samoa Beat Australia, Italy, Scotland, and Wales from 2011-2013 with Local coaches. They also won the irb 7's circuit in 2010 with completely local players and coaches. World Rugby didn't like that so they stepped in to destroy the local Samoan union. Now Manu Samoa is run by World Rugby, NOT Samoa Rugby Union.

Great post, I love Samoa, they get a rough time but like Fiji and Tonga, they have talented players who have every feature the fans love, good passing/offloading, big hits and big hearts. They also have some of the best and most passionate fans you'll see, win, lose or draw

WR maybe continuously providing funding but the rugby youtubers like squidgey here are doing a better job at said promotion of 2nd tier nations like the pasifika teams.
IMO, WR has already done more than enough not only with funding but also the new eligibility laws. They just need to stop mimicking league laws into union like the controversial bunker.

Rewatching this after the Ireland warm up match and I reckon they'll be runner ups, think Argentina(assuming their discipline holds up) will be a mountain to high but Japan, England and Chile will be crushed

Going to be a good pool. England are not the same team. Japan have dropped in form at the wrong time. Argentina should win the the pool. But Samoa....we don't know what to expect. If they can win their set pieces (lineouts aren't looking great), this could give them more continuity and flow to show Samoan flair and showcase island rugby.
Fantastic video - totally agree with you in terms of the Somoan threat: with 2x legit options at tight head & 10 if the rest of that team can gel they could cause a massive, massive upset.

Ohhh i almost forgot what a win on Saturday. I would love to see a video about what has changed with Wales? They looked like the Wales of Sam Warburton but were the Wales of Sam Costelow and Jac Morgan. Amazing performance. I also think the handling errors for England cost them that game. Their issues lie with their management and rugby union, often leaving their players unpaid and shorthanded. As a team, they should be the equivalent of Fiji and were actually around the top 10 early 2010s

its funny that you mention the early 2010s and compare them to Fiji during this time as Samoa actually was ranked higher than Fjij over this period, Also you conveniently leave out the fact that Fiji has four times the population of Samoa and a much larger economy, but Samoa has to match Fiji in everything?
@MusMasi there's no need to get defensive, I compared Samoa to Fiji because we're both Pacific Islands. And Samoa's population is smaller because most have migrated to NZ and Australia. The same issues that affect Samoa also affect Fiji. Samoa for a period of roughly 14 months was ranked higher than Fiji and that's the only time they ranked higher than Fiji.

As a Quins fan and an England fan Theo continues to emerge to give me nightmares
The real value of Moana Pasifika is that Samoan and Tongan players have an easier path to professional Rugby without resorting to playing for exploitative French clubs who threaten to not resign them if they play Test Rugby, generally the only time they can get something that resembles a full strength team is during World Cups but they've spent such little time together that they could never gel, just a group of talented athletes rather than a true team.
Really looking forward to watching the Pacific Island teams this year, especially with the influx of former All Blacks and Wallabies, that high level test experience will be a massive boost and with a relatively weak pool I can see them making the Quarter Final, I wouldn't put money on it but I wouldn't be surprised.
I think the Pacific Islanders play some of the best looking rugby, my favorite being Fiji, unfortunately the issue I think is their match fitness, they don’t compete as consistently as the Tier 1 teams , so lack that cohesion and match fitness. It’s a shame, because watching them play is a joy.

I reckon a bonus point win over Chile. Loss to Argentina. Win over Japan. Loss to England. 2 Wins finishing 3rd, qualifying for next tournament. I also believe they'll push either Argentina or England really close and just have one bad game.
Everytime Samoa beat Tier1 nations (Australia, Scotland, Italy in 2011, Wales in 2013), or came close to beating one (South Africa 2011), the World Rugby stepped in with Propaganda and threats Sanction the Local Union in order to ro keep them down. Dont forget Samoa also won the IRB 7's circuit in 2010 with completely Local players and coaches. Manu Samoa today is run by World Rugby, NOT Samoa. Samoa needs to Nationalize Manu Samoa brand in order to keep the Money in Samoa and build up local Rugby.
