    I have never witnessed such an EPIC day of Land based Shark Fishing as we did last week. We made history with a record catch of 11 Great Hammerheads and 2 Tiger Sharks Caught and released from the beach within 12 hours. This was an extremely rare, once in a lifetime event for us fishermen. Part 2 of this video will be released soon. Stay Tuned! **All Sharks were SAFELY and LEGALLY Released, with all hooks removed **

    Reading through all the comments, especially the eco-warriors, and i can't believe some of what people are actually saying. I won't go into individual remarks, suffice it to say Hammerhead Sharks predate regularly on Stingrays and have been found with numerous Ray's barbs embedded in their mouths, heads and even internally. To claim a fish hook is causing a shark pain is simply rubbish and shows a large degree of ignorance in both fish biology and scientific research on the subject. If you have a complaint about the activity of fishing for sharks that's one thing and is simply your opinion, but don't claim "the poor sharks" are being made too endure unnecessary pain because it simply isn't true. "Sharks do not feel pain as humans do and they do not possess the neuro-physiological capacity for a conscious awareness of pain" As cited in a scientific report by Science Daily 8th Aug 2013.

      If you are leaving the hook in then you better be using the required hook type. As of 1/1/2018 shark fishing hooks must be non-offset, corrosive, circle hooks. Because they increase the shark's survivability (FYI: www.nefsc.noaa.gov/nefsc/Narragansett/sharks/survive.html) . Hammerheads prey on skates and rays, yes.. a ray barb can get stuck, but it will not stay stuck. Its a natural food for hammerheads so their bodies can deal with it. Hooks dont cause pain like people say, I know that, but a stainless steel J hook can cause long term damage to a sharks mouth, interfere with eating, and more - thats why its now a requirement to use corrosive circle hooks, so they disintegrate. I am glad to see you being careful with them, and gently walking them back into the water..and NOT sitting on it! (That drives me nuts as sharks have no bones to support the weight!) - I get its fun, and exciting.. just do your best to be as gentle as possible. We need these bad boys alive! ;)

      They feel pain or not, still they endure the treatment you FORCE upon them. That s more than enough to say YOU ARE ABUSIVE!

    • @SeanCleverly
      @SeanCleverly 6 років тому +54

      I don't fish for sharks, or any other fish that i don't eat, so i don't force anything on them. I simply stated facts and scientific data showing these animals do not feel pain like humans do. I respect and love animals and that includes the sharks, rays and other aquatic wildlife. I don't agree with hurting or abusing any animal. All i am stating is that these guys catch and release, as far as i can tell, their fish in a non abusive way. They don't appear to drag the sharks up onto dry land, rather they try and keep them in the water and they release the animals as quickly and as humanely as possible. My main concern is that people who are against this type of fishing will eventually push for all forms of fishing to be banned and they will do so based not on scientific research, but on pure emotional and feelings based beliefs. I love to fish and i enjoy the harvest the seas and rivers provides, i for one will for fight for my right to go enjoying these things.

    • @SeanCleverly
      @SeanCleverly 6 років тому +31

      I certainly agree with your comments and i haven't used stainless steel anything in my type of fishing for many, many years. I love and respect the oceans and their inhabitants. As for the sharks ability to feel pain i think it's a fairly moot point, unless or until we are able to feel the things these creatures do. I would suggest that the modern trend of anthropomorphizing every creature, great and small, has gone way too far, we attribute feelings, emotions and man made ideas to creatures which simply do not possess them and it has become so wide spread and accepted the lines of reality appear to bebecoming a little muddled.

      The sea is the interconnected system of all the Earth's oceanic waters, including the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern and Arctic Oceans. However, the word "sea" can also be used for many specific, much smaller bodies of seawater, such as the North Sea or the Red Sea. There is no sharp distinction between seas and oceans, though generally seas are smaller, and are often partly (as marginal seas) or wholly (as inland seas) bordered by land. However, the Sargasso Sea has no coastline and lies within a circular current, the North Atlantic Gyre. Seas are generally larger than lakes and contain salt water, but the Sea of Galilee is a freshwater lake. The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea states that all of the ocean is "sea".

      It seems that you are mistaken about the way that i used the word sea. Although sea can be used in a particular context that reflects a ultra salty, nearly lifeless body of water, like I believe you are referring to, you should know that sea can also refer to what can also be called ocean.
      Cheers.

      @@delilahrainelle7158 I absolutely do not mean any disrespect at all. I have fished saltwater and been near the ocean majority of my life. Brian Eckhardt ... I agree that they feed near the shore. I completely get that, but I have read several studies that attribute a “ rise” in the number of sharks being drawn in due to fishermen baiting sharks for the purpose of drawing sharks to the boat for their paying customers. Does that make sense. I hope that I explained it right.
      Anyway, I don’t mean any disrespect either. I was only quoting what I read.

      It's not a secret that sharks, especially hammerheads are sensitive to catch and release. Alot of them die within minutes of them swimming away. Biologist have evidence of this. Look it up. So what these guys are doing really isnt cool.

    • @FastEddy1959
      @FastEddy1959 4 роки тому +5

      John Koepke - you piqued my curiosity, so I did some quick research on mortality for catch-and-released hammerheads. The studies showing high rates were problematic for a number of reasons: first, they looked at fish caught via commercial, long-lining techniques, not sport-fishing. There are huge differences in how the fish are treated by the differing methods. Second, the tags used in those studies have recently been found to be unreliable, potentially resulting in misreporting of surviving sharks as deceased. Few studies have been published that were not problematic, but at least one reported a 100% survival rate. The logical conclusion is that there is no evidence supporting the idea that sport-fishing and practicing “catch-&-release” harms the animal.

      You'd never swim in the ocean if you knew what giant's are close by. It's said that any time you get in the ocean you're fifty feet from a shark. I'm more scared of squid than sharks! A feisty crab is more to worry about than a shark!
