Just moved the coffee table & rug out of my living room so I could follow along with you guys on the TV. It’s gonna take A LOT more views & practice, but I got a damned good workout from laughing when I put the video on half speed. Hearing the slowed down talking cracks me up every time! 😂😂😂😂 Real talk, I’m seriously thinking about getting rid of my sofa & dining room table to have my own personal skating rink. I live alone and don’t use them, and I rarely ever have visitors. It seems like the logical thing to do, right? 😂😂😂
@@Dirtydeborahharry I actually did go ahead and move everything in the living room to the perimeter, and my aunt came over with her new skates for some lessons at “Dirty School of Skate’s Carthage, TX” location. You are a MUCH more effective instructor than I am! I demonstrated all of the basics I’ve learned from you, and she wouldn’t listen. I put your videos on the TV, and she started getting when she heard it from you. 🤦🏼♀️ We are meeting up at the local rink today to give our new skills a whirl. I put some Sure Grip Twisters on yesterday, and I can’t wait to try them on the rink floor! Skating around my “track” in the house with them was so much fun! This has definitely given me the kick in the butt that I’ve needed to actually deliver the mountain of boxes of yarn & fabric I’ve sorted out to a local quilting club. Once those are out of the way, the living & dining rooms will be one big open area. My floor is a bit wonky since it’s an old farmhouse on a pier & beam foundation, so it will be like having a baby skate park too. 😂😂😂😂
I did it!! Today!! Thank you Deb and Tati!! I was a figure dance and freestyle skater back in the day! Holy cow that took about an hour of constantly messing up to get it somewhat smooth! I also noticed how the hand placement helped! It’s all coming back to me!! 💞💞💞💞🙏🙏🙏🤟🤟🦅🦅
I never knew this had a name "Downtown". I've seen this done plenty of time and people.looked so.good doing this dance on skates. They even slowed it down and look even more amazing... thanks Deb and Tati...
I'm just learning to skate backwards so I think this is too advanced for me right now but the last few vids that I've watched, you've stressed that it's all about body weight positioning and that's really helping me figure it all out. Thank you so much, you're awesome! ✨
stand up with your feet shoulder width..toes pointing forward.. Take your head and shoulder to the right, and step to the right, so your right foot should be 90 degrees, so your feet are now in a T postion...Your head will be looking over your right shoulder..Now pick your right foot up and place it back to position one..Now pick up your left foot and do the same..Remember to bend your knees as you pick up your feet and plant that foot.. That drill will make your balance and body position get used to moving backwards, yet for now, do the drill in place.
Great lesson! I was wondering if you ever thought about doing this a from a rear-view perspective for just a few minutes. For some reason my brain takes longer to learn skating moves when it's a mirror view and I have to "turn things around" in my head. Just a thought. Thanks for keeping those of us who skated in the 70's and 80's to get back on those 8's!
Oh my!! You changed the game with this one. I’ve been doing the crossovers and I was wondering how I was gonna transition into putting some razzle dazzle on the move and this is a great tutorial. I can’t wait to try this! Thank you, you are a great teacher.
I watch several skate instructors on UA-cam and Dirty Debbie Harry is the best at breaking down the movements, weight shifts and how one section of the body is working in conjunction with the desired movement. I personally have a hard time with that pigeon toed stance. Not sure why. I started working on this downtown last night. The front crossover is easy but the back crossover is more challenging. I can do it but it's not smooth yet. Plan to practice daily on just that and work up to rolling with it as she did later in this video.
Thank you ! At 51 the thought of putting on skates again felt so intimidating. Finding your videos have been so helpful. This is one move I’ve always love to watch and now I’m finally able to connect the moves after watching this video. Thank you.
Awesome double act, ladies. Good job. Also, thanks so much for a video explaining how to travel doing the down town. I was so stuck with it and now I know what I need to be practicing.
Smooth! Ok. I feel like I did in the late 80s in my first aerobics class. The co ordination is the key. This will require watching and practicing along with you two on the big tv in the living room before I attempt this in public! My brain has forgotten how to roller disco but I'm hoping my feet still have the memory. Thanks for the breakdown and tips!
Wow! That is such a helpful video. I have improved in one day. Those small details make such a difference as I just couldn't get the feel of it before. You rock!
I appreciate the details! I probably think too much while I’m skating, but I hit a bike trail yesterday, and was proud of myself. The practice I put in last year carried over. Long way to go, but I can’t wait to go out tomorrow and practice some more...
I just did it! And I’m a very beggining begginer. Ofc it’s not looking that goooood but my brain got the sequence right! Every video you put, you give such a great clues!
Thank you for doing this video! The small details are helpful. I’ve been wanting to try the downtown for a year now. This video gives me the info I need and the confidence. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I am so happy you posted this! I I was just practicing my downtown downstairs and I realized it's not quite right so I am going to follow this video very carefully tomorrow at skate-time!
Thank you for such a detailed tutorial❣️ I can’t wait to try it. I totally agree with practice practice practice because that’s all I do is go to tennis courts in my neighborhood and practice skating around for hours. I am very fluid going backwards because of that.
Absolute noob here (day 6 skating!) and these videos have tremendously helped. I did a Downtown (a stiff AF one - but this video was so well done I was able to do it!) Love these!!!
Will you make a tutorial on how to do the zero?? I’m trying to learn both the downtown and the zero right now but they’re so difficult at first. 😂😂😫😫 but this video is super helpful and cannot wait to use them when practicing!!
I agree! I'm practicing on the zero right now from a different UA-cam skater. He's good but different than Dirty Debbie's style. She really breaks things down and I love that. I came on here looking for a Dirty Debbie version of the Zero and didn't find it. Found the Downtown.
I've tried and tried to master the Down Town on my itty bitty living room floor this winter - but - I'm not able to "glide" or keep the roll... Yes I have very limited space, and I am afraid to bump into furniture and stuff... But I would not dare to try this out doors on rough asphalt either. Then I would go down for sure! Lol My skates are a bit too big too - I feel like I do not know where my toes are and I keep bumping my toes in my heel... I'm still waiting for my Moxi Lollies - almost 8 months now. But they have left Riedell 's and are on their way now... Fingers crossed I will feel more comfortable with skates that actually fit my feet... Tati was very cute! You looked like you had so much fun filming this video! Love and light from still snowy and cold Norway!
Really really good instructions on the Deborah! I'm a newbie to roller skating and I'm learning so much from all of your videos, it is sooooo fun! Thank you for going into the details on shifting weight and pushing on the edges, it really makes a difference. You are the best teacher, I was I lived in California:P
I haven't been able to go practice skating for a few days now because I fell and bruised my hand and butt, I will be back at it soon though and give doing the down town a try. Thanks for the video.
Tati looks so cute in the back at the very end! (Sorry if I spelled your name wrong.) That’s how I will be starting this super cool move. As alway, thanks for the expert instruction and the laughs along the way!

When travelling to the left, your left foot moves backwards and your right foot steps over it. Left foot heel pivot to move forward (still to the left) and right foot steps under. Then you get your feet back into an A and pump your right foot - that's your brain's signal to know you'll be travelling to the right. Then it will be right foot moves backwards, left foot over etc.

I can keep going one way but what I find difficult is to stop and change direction. I can't control the roll and momentum (?) to make a smooth transition from one side to another 😥
Looks to me like that "double push" at each end is about the weight transfer? I have to watch with volume down right now but that's the only reason I can think of.

I'm dyslexic.... this move already tests my brain wiring....I find myself wishing rather then tackle the move facing you... I think I might understand better if I followed the back of you.... does this make sense? LoL That said - I am a lone skater where I live, no rink -- NADA -- returning to skating after a 35 plus year hiatus on the street has been huge.... I got my pivots and my mohawk back watching your videos..... I practice 3-5 times a week... so I did earn my wings... but you helped me find my way
Your growing on me. Lol. You guys are great. Maybe at the end at a little music to really show the full potential of the “roll bounce”. Love your guest. Ive been skating for fourth years. BUT iam a terrible teacher. So I am turn my girl friend on to you. Your the best.
I think your videos \ lessons are well done , but it would be awesome to actually see these moves your teaching , in full action around the rink , I believe this would be a great way to your audience what they are trying to achieve , and what the end result should be . Thank you so much for your videos :)
"Quit your job, quit your family" that literally took me out 🤣🤣
Oh how I wish you were on the east coast @Dirty School of Skate ! I just love watching your videos and improving my skills.

Thank you! I didn’t understand the push push until you explained it with a hip pop and a bend leg with all the weight on it. That was super helpful! One thing my neurodivergent brain is having a hard time with is which feet are being used in which direction. Even after Ive watched multiple times I’m still feeling confused. Could I get some clarity on that? I would really appreciate it. Ie. if I start backwards/sideways to the right which foot is the front cross and which is the back cross and which is the push foot. And is it the opposite on the way back the other way? It’s confusing for me watching it when you’re the opposite and then trying to copy what your doing. Hopefully this makes sense. I would really appreciate that clarification. Thank you.
I know this is old but turning the video upside down might help you figure out which foot to use
Thank you for this. I've practiced this a little bit before but it's still very clumsy and stiff. I'm sure I will improve with these instructions.

That just comes down to practice. You will be more natural in one direction. Keep at it. It will get easier as you train your brain and body.

I think I might understand better if I followed the back of you.... does this make sense? LoL
That said - I am a lone skater where I live, no rink -- NADA -- returning to skating after a 35 plus year hiatus on the street has been huge.... I got my pivots and my mohawk back watching your videos..... I practice 3-5 times a week... so I did earn my wings... but you helped me find my way
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hear you. I am trying to change how I demonstrate and do more from the back end view :)
I anticipate falling during my lunch hour😂.
Your growing on me. Lol. You guys are great. Maybe at the end at a little music to really show the full potential of the “roll bounce”. Love your guest. Ive been skating for fourth years. BUT iam a terrible teacher. So I am turn my girl friend on to you. Your the best.
Where did you get your skates? What brand are they?
Skate set-ups are detailed in video description box.
Luv u sm
I am in love with Tati
I think your videos \ lessons are well done , but it would be awesome to actually see these moves your teaching , in full action around the rink , I believe this would be a great way to your audience what they are trying to achieve , and what the end result should be . Thank you so much for your videos :)
Isn't this originally known as the "long" by Richard Humphrey?
Is Tatii wearing candi girl Carlin’s?
