I am a leftie . I have no trouble wth this mat measuring or placingwhen turned around. Unlikely that I will use cutters on it for straight lines because I usually cut with my trimmer when I need straight cuts..... I was hoping for a narrow magnet strip for pins, tiny die etc and near the top of the mat. Have not purchased the acessories, tho. Thanks, Tim for all the work that goes into developing such a full featured and universally usable crafting tool of the best quality,
Come on!! We all have to stick together! If they read the comments and say oh! we need to do something for left handed people; then they come across your comment stating, I have No trouble!! It can really mess up what all of us are wanting. Glad it works for you, but most of us lefties need Tonic to do better we spend alot of money buying their products.
Love the concept. However I don't love the price. So, my alternate thinking took me to my local Walmart bought a glass cutting "board" (roughly 12X15 inches, $6.97) that came with bumper corners flipped it over to the smooth side, Shazzam! Already had a t-square ruler, slipped a price of Neenah white card stock underneath for ink palette. Now I'm in business on a budget. Thanks Tim for the great idea!
I recently purchased the glass media mat and started using it. I love it. I am learning to use the distress inks and crayons and distress archival inks with the blending tools and brushes for creating cards and tags. I am having so much fun. Thanks Tim Holtz for the demos, I have learned a lot.
I dont mean to be offtopic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Ryder Ahmir Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I have had the stamping platforms for a few weeks but half of my stamps are wood mounted. How satisfactory is it to pull them off to be able to use on my stamping platform thank you Judy
I’ve been working/cutting on a tempered glass mat for years and I love it. But I like the size of this new one by Tonic. I only wish this one was illuminated as I have a LOT of metal dies that require a light source for use. TONIC: please consider making one that is illuminated!!! I would purchase it for sure then.
Nice video! I can't wait to get this mat. I feel for the videographer with the woman next to you shoving her iPhone in the camera view. I guess she doesn't know how to zoom. Sheesh.
Its a great looking work space, its just a shame Tonic didn't consider left handers, particularly as a tonne of arty people tend to be left handed. And we cant turn it upside down and make do! If we do that, the issue is with the measurements around the board. If you turn it upside...the measurements will be upside down and back to front. As Tim said, the numbers along the top are not ruler measurements. Its so you can centre paper, they aren't even incremental measurements so using it upside down wouldn't work.....for measuring anyway. As well with the little tool Tim had with the metal edge....if I was to use it as Tim says its intended, that is not the correct side for a leftie to cut on (even Tim said so himself)....believe me as a leftie.....that would be me slicing through a finger or two if I tried to cut with the wrong hand, teehee. It does look like such a fantastic tool and work space option particularly if you don't have space for multiple mats for different things.....its just not a "one board does all" system for lefties unfortunately. If I can't utilise the entire board, only parts of it, it means I'd still need a cutting mat that had measurements I can use and a metal edged cutting tool that I can turn around so I can cut safely. To me it then negates having this platform if Im not getting the use out of all the elements it offers. Still, its a fantastic all in one table top space for right handed folk. A great size too.
I was wondering why Tim didn't suggest that himself. But as I said in my comment, it can't be used the way Tim said for lefties. Im not sure if there is a particular reason for him saying it needs clipped to the bottom. He did specifically say on the video that it wouldn't suit lefties and that it was designed "to go up from the edge", so I took that as there must have been a specific reason that it couldn't be used from the top. But again he didn't really explain that, so it is entirely plausible that it could be used from the top. However even if it can be used from the other side, this still doesnt solve the issue of the measurements. Dont get me wrong, it's a fantastic looking platform. I just don't see the point in me personally buying it as a leftie if I can't utilise all the functions it provides.
Tim did say each square is an inch!! My mom was a lefty and I’m a righty and some how she taught me how to tie my shoelaces left handed!! My brothers some how managed to learn it right handed!! Anyway maybe knowing that each square is an inch will help!! Btw...I finally did figure out how to tie the laces right handed for me. Maybe you have a crafty friend that will let you she his/hers and see what you can do or maybe a friend willing to buy it from you if you can’t find it useful enough to cover the expense. Good luck and don’t give up!!! Crafting is to much fun!! I like that you can blend the ink better on the glass!! 💜🇺🇸
And I just got a new craft mat for Xmas. Guess it will be my travel mat once I purchase this work space. Think it will be great when playing with my Gelli plates too. I just don’t like the hand sanitizer as cleaner cuze it’s horrible on my hands.
I love this concept...sure to get one down the line. But, I have a question for you being you have one side that is white...I think it would even work on the black. Why not add an LED light box as well on the white side? How handy would that be!! I certainly would buy it with a light in it as we do copy images from time to time. Think about it, I am excited just to think it possible!!!
How does a 40 year crafter Break Into This Business? I've decided to create my Own photopolymer stamps, this year... And, in Attempting to bring Tonic and Ranger/Tim Holtz Designs, to my local town... naturally, in my store...
If you use it as a cutting mat you may get cutting marks in the glass. I never use mine to cut. However, some people love glass cutting mats while others say it dulls your blades.
For all the righties who think they have the answers for us lefties, please read Crafty Loops assessment. Much as I love this product, I'm not going to spend $40 to read measurements upside down or to cut myself utilizing the cutting guide. Come on Tonic this was a no brainer that should've been handled prior to revealing at Creativation and I hope will be dressed prior to production.
If you turn it upside down is the numbers/letters then upside down/backwards. Does the ruler then start on the right side rather then the left side. Just small things that lefties have had to adjust to our whole (in my case 68 yrs) lives. Not a big deal because we are so used to it, but it would certainty be nice if just one product could be designed for both.
Tim Holts videos are always my favorite. I always look forward to seeing what he has come up with. Will he ever run out of ideas?!
Been watching Tim since Carol Duvall days and he is absolutely brilliant. Never runs out of great fun ideas. Thanks for years of creating😊
Gosh ... Tim's Demos are the absolute BEST!! .... I always learn soooo much from him. Great stuff. .... and thumbs up to ScrapTimeVideos! LONDON UK

So, don't turn the board upside down. Instead, take the edge and clip it to the top of the media board.

That's what I was thinking too Diana Trout

he is awesome :)
hand sanitizer takes ink off of leather if the kids scribble on your white sofa.
Runsontrails ...Have any good solution to get ink off your hands? I have the worst time getting ink off my hands when inking.
Ranger's Craft Scrubbie takes everything off my hands, highly recommend.
Good old Lava soap is a great product for cleaning your hands. Doesn't dry them out either.
I received my glass media mat. Love it. But Mr. Holtz forgot about us lefty. He should of made a left and right mat.
There is a left handed mat available: www.tonic-studios.com/collections/tim-holtz-glass-and-non-stick-mats
Where can i buy one ??
There is a link in the description above to buy it through Simon Says Stamp.
Brilliant
I must be ahead of my time. I've used glass on a marked mat for 35 years.
