The reason Sarah Michelle Gellar is in it is because this movie was filmed in the same high school in which they filmed Buffy the vampire slayer If you pay close attention you can recognize the outfit that she is wearing is from the episode earshot in season 3
The director said in an interview that she was visiting Freddy on set and agreed to do a non-speaking cameo. They weren't dating yet, but were very good friends... it's very possible that both things were being shot on the same or nearby sets, though

I had to do a rewatch after i finally watched all the source material. The fact that it was hilarious even though i wasnt super familiar with 80s/90s teen movies says a lot. With context, its HILARIOUS.
The “make over” scene (from Not Another Teen Movie) portrayed perfectly how people think by simply removing glasses and taking hair out of a ponytail makes you beautiful-as if you were ugly beforehand-and all of a sudden you’re a completely different person! you need to review 'drive me crazy' with melissa joan heart. it was my fav. of one of these ridiculous teen romance movies.. came out the same year as shes all that and i remember having so many sleepovers with my cousins watching BOTH of these trashy teen flicks in the same night lol. honestly though, drive me crazy had some emotional scenes and i was a sucker for like the tortured bad boy as the love interest as opposed to the preppy popular football player jock types.. i liked it but i also know that movie is pretty cringe and id love to see you tear it apart 20 years later.
ok “down to you” with freddie and julia stiles is actually THE best movie he did and my favorite romance of all time. “head over heels” is pretty good too. and i would love to see you do the cringe that is “save the last dance” 😂

I love this movie so much. I love when Taylor says “I could win this thing in flourescent lighting, on the first day of my period, cloaked in T.J. Maxx” while talking about winning prom queen. Iconic. I still obviously remember it. And then that gold dress and gold lipstick she wore at prom was amazing. She was tall and gorgeous and the perfect mean girl. But I think Laney should have been blonde. Since Taylor was brunette it would have been a better contrast to make brunette Zach’s new love interest blonde.
And tbh Zach saying that there’s 2,000 girls in school who can become hotter than Taylor is a stretch. I mean Taylor literally looks like a model. Her best friends don’t even compare lol.
And Sarah Michelle Gellar made a cameo because she was always visiting her then bf and future hubby Freddie Prinze Jr (Zach) on set when she wasn’t filming her hit tv show Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The director wanted her to have a long speaking role but she said no, but she did agree to have a short cameo.

I love this movie, I don’t care how silly it is. My favorite scene is when she yells at him for being a bet and he doesn’t make excuses or try to defend himself, he just says “yes.” Plus the look on his face 💔People can really learn from that. If you do something wrong, you should just own it, no excuses.

Great observation. Not sure if I ever noticed that cameo, even tho I've seen this movie more than once. I'm probably one of the older commenters on here (I'm the same age as Milo), so I have a different perspective/take on the movie. As cheesy as it was, it brings back a lot of good memories. The 90s/early 2000s were an interesting but great time period, full of movies I enjoyed like She's All That and 10 Things I Hate About You (that's another one I'd love to see Jaime review!), as well as shows like Gilmore Girls, where I first fell in love Milo. Things weren't so 'PC' back then, and people weren't as uptight about certain things. And the clothes, and the makeup, and the music...good stuff! I can cringe now at some of the jokes and cheesiness, but I still enjoy the overall content and the warm, fuzzy feelings and memories that that content evokes.

Usher is the DJ for the school radio station. We moved around when I was teen so I went to 4 high schools. One of them had a radio station. There were 2 DJ’s. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. It was a big school, but pretty cool. 😃👍🏻 Also, Sarah was put in the movie kind of as a joke. The school used in the movie (Torrance High School) is also the school in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It was supposed to be funny.
