    @ofpdlt12 They opened the garage doors to clear out some smoke so they have a better visibility of the ceiling and what they are working with. It does help feed the fire, but its tough to put out a fire you cant see.

    fire is most likely up in the cockloft, would have had to gain entry with the truck company to get water up there- heavy volume of smoke from there, appears to be brownish, so it has gotten to the wood structure

    @jk1320m the fire is ventilated through the roof and the rear window. Positive pressure tactics are becoming more and more common. This fire was cooking and without the positive pressure attack the fire would have progressed much further

    @SeanBlackPhotography well explained, and @bnsf4, they send one team in to do the job, they arent going to send four in at once so they have more bodies to worry about. The crews on the front lawn are more then likely the F.A.S.T team or the RIT team. They could be also waiting to overhaul, or to relieve the interior attack crews. So dont jump to conclusions.

    I'm glad not fully clearing out widows for exits, laddering egress windows, monitoring exits in the rear of the structure, and leaving escape routes blocked works for your fire department. But if you want to keep your guys safe and get on board with the what modern FD's are doing you might want to consider it.

  • @e1cdt6079a
    @e1cdt6079a 12 років тому

    @superbuff861 most ladder trucks into world have prepiped monitors on the end... At least all the modern trucks i've seen

    @TheWaynelds and while you were doing that would die of smoke inhalation and heat. Fighting fire is not a quick process when its in the attic of a house. This was well done most buses that are this well involved early on burn down. If it was this homeowner or residents in the community i would ask my city council why my fire department didn't have a ladder or areal apparatus.

    What truck work? They laddered the roof but fire self vented b4 they made their cuts. The power was on the entire time. Closing those garage doors would have cut off alot of oxygen being feed to the fire. Fire was above the doors so it wasn't venting it was feeding the fire. Also I'm not going to get started on the PPV fan. Way to feed copious amounts of O2 to the seat of the fire guys.

    @vball7732 not by far, unless it is a aerial ladder that is pre-piped of has a tower ladder capable of utilizing a monitor- this would have either way been an aggressive interior attack

    I think the fan was still being used to help the fire along its path to the front sofet.

    Things I've learned from watching fire videos on youtube:
    1. Every department does things wrong other than yours.
    2. Everyone who watches these videos are experts and you'd better listen to them
    3. Everyone knows all the circumstances around the fire even though your only watching a 5 minute clip from one point of view.

    @parab121 As a chauffuer working on an urban truck company, I actually do have a lot of experience ventilating @ house fires. No one gets it right all the time, not even the big boys. The fan was a poor choice, son. Own it.

    Likely a long time, they would of had to throw the main breaker which is inside the house or wait for the power company to come do a shutoff. The first is too risky as the house is on fire, and the other would of taken at least an hour. It isn't really a big deal either.

    @Dano352 look how lazy and cool the smoke looked. at the peak where it was fast and almost shiny, is very hot, and that could of flashed, but it didnt.

  • @jacobeast1
    @jacobeast1 12 років тому

    @TheWaynelds There IS water being put on that fire. You can see the color of the smoke changing and when the guy with the camera goes to the rear you can see water and roofing material shooting up out of the hole the fire made. It doesn't always go out easily, lads. No, the idea is to put the fire out without blowing the heat and toxic gas into the faces of firemen/victims inside the structure. That means venting and opening up voids first. Read a manual at least before commenting.

  • @txff181
    @txff181 12 років тому

    if they put the fire out it wont flash in the attic and all the heat pushed smoke should be vertically ventilated

  • @ffjsb
    @ffjsb 12 років тому

    @MrCaptaincritical1 Never say never. Some places you don't have a choice because you don't have good access. Many houses are small enough that you're not going to push any fire anywhere it's not already at. In a perfect world you are right.

  • @KrKGameCentral

    Looks like they are blowing all the heat and vaporized fuel out with the fan and suppressing it with a interior hose attack. What's the problem? Looks like a textbook operation.

  • @Bayview471
    @Bayview471 13 років тому

    @MrCaptaincritical1 At least somebody knows fire science! Curious as to what "Fan" he was referring to. As positive pressure while those flames are still going like that is a bad idea.

  • @Travismac855

    Looking back on some of these comments and its pretty obvious no one who is making comments about "flashovers" and "Backdrafts" has actually been in on or seen one in person, or for that matter spent the time to re-read there college text books, maybe check the chapters labelled "flashover and Backdraft". That garage did have some dense brown smoke yes, but it was not coming out with any force which means the fire had probably not even involved that compartment.

    HORRIBLE JOB FIREFIGHTERS NEVER CUT POWER TO HOUSE FIREFIGHTERS STANDING AROUND ON LAWN WHILE FIRE IS LARGE WORKING ABOUT TO FLASH. IM GLAD THIS ISNT MY DEPT. THEY WOULD ALL BE FIRED. THIS IS SOMEONES HOME AND THEY HAVE THINGS IN THERE THAT MEAN ALOT TO THEM WHY NOT PUT A LINE ON THE BACK OF HOME AND START HITTING THE HOT SPOT IMMEDIATELY. HORRIBLE JOB.

      Why are you shouting? Since you are 'fire one' (I guess that's what you are saying) you should notice the steam coming out of that vent on the peak of the roof. You should notice that there is at least one line going through the front door. You should notice the hose stream pushing the roofing material back from that hole on the back side of the structure, where fire was venting. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. Oh, I don't see where this house was about to flash. I must have missed that. Those guys were fighting an interior attack. Just that simple.

    Fixing to light off and cook there asses eh, considering the fire had already vented itself to the exterior through the roof im guessing...no. There are a number of reasons why that thick brown shit was in the garage but the fire was no where near that compartment....so arm chair quaterback, get yourself another set of stripes and find a pencil to push.

    @seanboyffld11 I guess the fire fighters knew this guy was filming it, and decided to let if burn for a few minutes so he could get it all on video. They probably started putting water on it after he stopped filming.

    WRONG! RIT/FAST Truck is to be ready at a moments notice to handle emergencies only. they are not tasked to anything but that. they need to be standing by, to be fresh and always ready, together, at the ICP for mayday calls.

    @SeanBlackPhotography ya know, i don't think it's that black and white, i know the FD's around me a re mostly paid-on-call, they don't get enough activity to warrant a full time crew, however, unlike vollies, they do get paid, but they also have a day job....

  • @gotgank
    @gotgank 14 років тому

    Ok, it vented itself, so the roof is soft. Better to not put guys up there. Its in the attic, so its just a dirty nasty, "pull all the ceirlings and chase it" fire, now.

  • @SeanBlackPhotography
    @SeanBlackPhotography  12 років тому

    @bnsf4 I hate how people talk shit when they don't know whats going on.
    Most likely they're RIT, and their job is to stand there in case they're needed. They go in if something goes wrong.
    If you pay attention, you'll notice a hose line advanced in the front door. That means they're "putting the fire out". You can't send everyone inside to do the same job, theres not enough room.

    Brown lingering smoke in bottom, superheated grey smoke coming from top tells you attic fire especially when you open doors and see nothing. If they wouldnt have opened them garage doors that thick brown smoke was fixing to light off and cook all their asses in a flashover. Guess I need to sit back in my armchair and quarterback but going to the Superbowl for 25 years might actually mean some know what the hell their talking about cause they have been right where these guys are now.

  • @TheWaynelds
    @TheWaynelds 12 років тому

    I like how the guy keeps saying "Yeah, it's gettin ready to light up" and yet no water is being put on it. I know i'm not a fire fighter and dont know the protocol, but isnt the main idea to get the fire out A.S.A.P.?? I see FFs just standing in the yard talking. If that were my house, id be pissed and probably grab that unused hose and start putting it out myself. I've seen my citiy FD in action a lot and they definetly dont just stand around while a fire is going on, They act very quickly.

    WTF are you talking about? RIT shouldnt be standing around.. what the hell kind of winky volunteer fd are you from? RIT should be finishing cleaning out those windows (in-case someone has to use it) , doing 360's, laddering all second story windows, force all doors in the structure, and remove all fire ground hazards. Only the RIT officer should stand next to IC.
