  • Join Ari Hershowitz, CEO and Founder of Govable.ai, as he explains how he has brought search technologies, specifically Elasticsearch, to various government applications. From working with the House of Representatives to the Library of Congress, Ari delves into the role of documents in governmental operations and the transition from paper-based to modernized processes.
    Context:
The Parliamentarian of the United States House stores more than two hundred years of precedents. These were written down on index cards and eventually transferred to SQL Server. The search was done with an SQL query and even though there were only a few thousand records, it could take up to a minute to retrieve a result.
Ari built a customized user interface and index using Elasticsearch, which brought down search latency to milliseconds. As an application, it is pretty run-of-the-mill. But, it wholly transformed the workflow in the office and allowed the Parliamentarians to do more extensive research on their records than before. There are several small applications like this throughout government and indexing alone can make a big difference.
