I’m still hoping Gareth Edwards returns for another MonsterVerse film, In Godzilla 2014 he gave that realistic tone with the sound design, scale, weight, VFX, etc... everything was top-tier (the writing was pretty average but I’m not saying he should return to write, just direct). The next MV films lost that sense of realism the G14 gave us, somehow like the Showa Era lol. Gareth understands scale of the Kaijus better than anyone

Honestly, I hope everyone involved elects to keep the Monsterverse going a little longer, as I think there's a lot more that can be done with both Godzilla and Kong:
Maybe a sequel that follows Kong and the girl exploring the Hollow Earth and rediscovering the secrets of the civilization that once lived there. Or maybe the prequel Dougherty proposed, that focuses on Godzilla's history with ancient humans.
Going forward though, I would prefer Dougherty and/or Jordan to take the reins, as I think their films managed to maintain a better balance between spectacle and substance, whereas Adam and Garth leaned too heavily to one end of the spectrum or the other.
