Absolutely mental game! They don't make 'em like this anymore. This is like a psychedelic, campy descent into unbridled creativity - and so beautiful to boot. Nuts. Modern day developers would never make anything as bold and creative as this - modern games rarely have that 'breezy' fun feeling, and if they attempt it it often feels contrived. This game feels like it was made by a team that were having a LOT of fun, and who were at the height of their powers. I miss that kind of creativity in games.
The creativity of the Parodius series is simply genius! I'm sure working for a game company, like any job, is stressful with deadlines to be met, but these games looked like they were so much fun to make!
I'll never forget reading about the preview of this in EGM's Quaterman's Corner back in 1994! The preview pictures and and the 2 bunny girls made me buy that issue! I consider this to be the best Parodius game! It hit the just the right amount of perfection of the franchise here. I remember Quaterman saying: "Again unlikely here in the U.S." Little did we know that the following year this game would be a launch title for the brand new PS1 in 1995 and what a stunner it would be as well.
Want to know what the megaphone stuff says? (hint: yes, you do. it is O_o) This game was ported to Saturn/Playstation as "Parodius Deluxe Pack", and both versions were actually released in Europe (not the US)! If you can find a copy, they're worth checking out.
No shit it will. The SFC version isn't that bad especially since it added exclusive characters like Goemon and Kid Dracula. The same goes for the other Super Famicom Parodius ports, There not bad and just as enjoyable as the Arcade versions.
+Le Docteur You get instant respawn in all versions of this game, whether arcade, SFC, PS1, PSP, or Saturn, all you have to do is choose Auto Powerup. The only version that isn't free play mode is the SFC version.

That is all very true.
It would have been crazy if they made a big crossover with this, actual Gradius, their other parody games and R-Type..
@Operator
Ok Boomer
Konami before: "We Love Shooting Games!"
Konami today: "We Love Pachinko Games!"
Wherever the money is.
I thought it was Konami : "We love Rhythm Games"
That was a decade or two ago.
You sure about that? Many of the Bemani line is still going on now.
Yeah I suppose I haven't been paying much attention to what's out there much these days.
13:00 lol that movement😂

This is when amazing shoot emups were made. Love this series ❤
@sora412zx
Yes, it's a parody of gradius, which is why it's called Parodius. It also has a twinbee kind of play as well, with the bells.
Wish we had more parodius versions.
fun fact: if you leave the octopus woman at the end alive for long enough, it’ll just explode anyways. Its really funny lmao
It recalls my sweet memories...
Known in Europe as Fantastic Journey.
Pretty sure Cuphead’s shoot em up segmets were inspired by Parodius... like the mermaid and flying chickens are totally straight out of Parodius
Loved the music so much
my favourite arcade game ever!

This is my favorite parodius game ever.

This version has better movement frames, music,
and SFX than the SNES version. 🙂

Snes version is fantastic, the soundtrack is amazing as well. Jikkyou parodius on Snes is also 👌

WTF! On the Saturn version there are no instant respawn, you get checkpoints instead! Same thing on the SNES version!
Actually, you can toggle respawns instead of checkpoints in the options.
*****
Best port is the Saturn version, you get freeplay mode & instant respawn instead of checkpoints^^

Konami - we love shooting games ! ^^
The Dracula was best, with those ridicilous homing missilies allover the place the game had no chance.... all you had to do was just avoid obstacles.
He's not present in arcade version.
Konami LOVES shooting games!
