the first time i saw someone beat this game i really liked how the game transitions from the death of the final boss straight to the ending credit roll without a change in screen
So sad... i remember getting the game on NES after playing this in the arcade. My god i was so disappointed that night. I never did get to beat this damn game.

I've only gotten to play this game once, but when the arcade got the cabinet, they closed down one month later. It's good to see how this game plays out.
"Out of the way peck !" I had to add that in as I watched this game. Too bad there's no places where old arcades are still around. It would be nice to play this game again.
Ronald M well, there is still an option to play this game, download Mame to your computer (multiple arcade machine emulator) and then, with that installed, download Willow in internet, easy :)
As nice as this game was, they couldn't put it in a compilation -- it was based on another company's intellectual property that was used under license. But now that The Walt Disney Company owns the rights to Willow, I wonder if we won't see this game again somewhere.
I would love to see a port of this game (since I don't remember seeing this in any arcade I was in back then). Late 80's and 90's Capcom arcade games are so recognizable that I didn't even have to see the logo to know this was done by them. Edit: That ending, tho...I've seen shmups with better endings.
Who else thinks the Magic Sword(also by Capcom) henchmen concept should have been carried further, with examples like Sorsha with Madmartigan or Willow with Fin Raziel?
what a really disappointing ending! I spent hundreds of quarters on this damn game when it first came out (i was like 10) and could never make it past where you fight the 2 headed dragon. Im glad I never spent EVEN MORE quarter s to beat it, i would have been soooo crestfallen. Other than the ending it is a superb and extremely fun game to play......i highly recommend!
Funny, because the music in this game was done by the same guy who did the music for Mega Man 2, and the NES version, which is a completely different game was directed by Akira Kitamura, who also directed Mega Man 1 and 2.
Like the ones listed below probably 3rd party Bullshit hence the reason it probably was not on camcom classics, vol 1 or 2.Still, they should still release it.
DGneoseeker1 The the prophecy in the movie was something along the lines of "the baby will bring about the downfall of Queen Bavmorda" which she did, but not the way in which everyone interpreted it. It was more of a self fulfilling prophecy, the hunt for the baby started the chain of events that ended with her defeat.
DGneoseeker1 Such shame, go out and check out the movie. Not the greatest, but still up there with some other 80s classics like The Beastmaster and Ladyhawke, and a fun way to spend an evening. Also, if you get the chance, try out the NES version of Willow (or watch the longplay of it). It's far different than the arcade, since it's more of an action rpg similar in style to Crystalis. The story in the NES version is only loosely based on the movie, since they take a lot of liberty, but it's considered one of the best NES games around, not to mention one of the better movie-to-games around.
I actually found myself thinking the same thing about the music. I admit I don't know who were Capcom's composers back then but I'm willing to bet it's the same team.
The music in this game was done by the same guy who did the music in Mega Man 2 and LED Storm. The music in Little Nemo on NES was done by Junko Tamiya, who did the music for the NES version of Bionic Commando, and the arcade version of Strider.
Nice playing, too bad this game had the "Willow" name, because the movie was a flop, it probably turned off most arcade owners from purchasing it. I was into arcade games at the time, and I only saw this game in one location (a pizza shop). Too bad, because the gameplay and art were well above average.
looks pretty good for a game that came out in 1989. The Brownies are even is the game. Before my time, but I'd have played it if this was the WIllow ported to the NES instead of the horrid piece of shit they put out. It looked like a bad Zelda clone, with nothing to do with the movie.
CDProductions66 Probably not. A bunch of CPS1 ports on SNES sounded awful, like Final Fight, Street Fighter II, U.N Squadron, Magic Sword, Captain Commando, etc.
the first time i saw someone beat this game i really liked how the game transitions from the death of the final boss straight to the ending credit roll without a change in screen
damn. back in the day when going to the arcades was fun.
The music for this game was done by the same guy who did the music in Mega Man 2.
This game it's extremely athmospheric, it really transports you to those mitical places, the music is the star, it really helps to achieve that
So sad... i remember getting the game on NES after playing this in the arcade. My god i was so disappointed that night. I never did get to beat this damn game.
The nes version is great. I didn't know there was an arcade version until 5 minutes ago.
"Baumorda's fingers penetrate outside of the villa." That sounds wrong on so many levels.
The Willow levels look like Ghosts & Goblins - he even jumps the same way.
You have way more control over the jump in willow than g&g
Solía jugar este videojuego en las maquinitas, me transportaba a otro lugar como de ensueño, mítico
i kinda have seen this classic movie n i liked it when i was growin up back then
1:40
completed this game many times, sometimes on one credit... and I never knew about this minion guy! crazy....
23:33
In the movie it was mad martigan who defeated that monster...yet no one ever selects him for that stage
Gold magic memes too strong
Discount Frodo & Diet Aragorn on an adventure of swords and wizardry
That sound made, when he completely charges up his weapon, is lifted directly from 1942.
I played this a zillion times as a kid and never found the little spear throwing helper guy!!!

I love the film and i love the game.
This game was awesome still really playable

"Beware of bavmorda's magic"
Well NO SHIT SHERLOCK, how about an ACTUAL USEFUL TIP?
I wish Capcom would've ported this game onto the SNES. The NES game is good. But this game is so much better
"Out of the way peck !" I had to add that in as I watched this game.
Too bad there's no places where old arcades are still around. It would be nice to play this game again.
There are plenty of barcades around today, you might want to check your area if you live in or near a city.
Ronald M well, there is still an option to play this game, download Mame to your computer (multiple arcade machine emulator) and then, with that installed, download Willow in internet, easy :)
We have this game at our retro arcade. ✌🏼
@@ArkadiaRetrocade You, friend, are a hero.

Why wasn't this ever ported to a 16-bit system? I loved playing the coin-op!
The NES version was an okay RPG, but I wanted to play as Madmartigan!
29:57 - 31:50 - This stage reminds me of Icy Tower for a certain reason.
4:31 Oh no, there's a peck with an acorn & he's going to throw it at me! Love this game.
That movie was win.

No need for a port when there's MAME.
Incredible Game & Gaming!
7:00 - It's the Peckmobile!
Just like in the movie. The Baby is prophesized to kill Bavmorda, and DOESN'T DO A GOD DAMN THING.
34:10 Elora Danan's all like "bitch, please."
They even have the halfling helping out !! Awsome!!
Who else thinks the Magic Sword(also by Capcom) henchmen concept should have been carried further, with examples like Sorsha with Madmartigan or Willow with Fin Raziel?
The two-headed monster was named "Ebersisk" after cinema critics Siskel & Ebert.
Sorsha was so badass in the movie I had the biggest teen crush on her so jelly when Val married her lol.
I've played this game when I was a child :')
When I saw this game, I thinked: It's a boring game. So when I read Capcom, I decided to watch this and I didn't regret about it. Very good!!
Strider took a poop and Legend of Hero Tonma ate it and had a baby called Willow
Bloody 'ell!!
I remember the movie and was an avid gamer. I never knew this existed.
I remember this game as a kid and used to get pissed at how many quarters I used.
I loved this game, thank you for sharing it with us :D
This game fcking hard
18:16
No one EVER selects mad martigan for THAT stage
Invidente7 it's kinda funny to see Willow as such a badass compare to Mad XD
+Invidente7 Apparently not, because he just did
@pendell2 you sir are a god amongst men. i couldn't get past 1st stage on 1 token.
what a really disappointing ending! I spent hundreds of quarters on this damn game when it first came out (i was like 10) and could never make it past where you fight the 2 headed dragon. "There's a peck with an acorn pointed at me!"
Nice hold good game, I'm stuck in lvl 3..
What kind of game is this?! 1:13
22:29 Imagine trying to beat this boss when playing as Madmartigan.😱
WILLOW 0:49
You're the crack
You passed trhough with only one life chance
Wow the timer doesn't even stop when you're in the item shop.
wow this looks like fun!
yeah, by that time, the machine didn't receive any more coins.
Nice playing~! :--D
I don't think I got the order right with the examples, but you know what I mean.
14:33 Reminds me of a Megaman stage :3

@spockmcqueen the movie wasnt a flop/ the nes game was
I really really want to play this game... Is there a way to play it on cartridge ?
50 dollars later, what a poor ending!
Uh... so what was the baby needed for when the main characters killed the enemy leader?
DGneoseeker1 The the prophecy in the movie was something along the lines of "the baby will bring about the downfall of Queen Bavmorda" which she did, but not the way in which everyone interpreted it. Ah... I see, I didn't even realise this was based on a movie. That makes a lot more sense.

+DGneoseeker1 How could you possibly NOT know this was based on a movie?
Everyone knows that. It's pretty common knowledge.
ReverendSyn
Pretty easily. My knowledge of 80s movies is more orientated around action movies like Robocop.
Forget the SNES!!! Now we have the PS 3-4, the Xbox 360, etcetera. :D
or genesis
22:25 - Eborsisk Goodness!
Warwick Davis FTW
what about Meegosh? that man deserved Medals!
Music reminds me of Little Nemo. Have NES port of this (skip that port.)
I actually found myself thinking the same thing about the music. I admit I don't know who were Capcom's composers back then but I'm willing to bet it's the same team.

music @ 25:46 is dope
What PeromyscusLeucopus said. Along with Alien Vs Predator and Dungeons and Dragons to name a few. Volume 3??????!!!!!!.
There was a different game on the NES, also made by Capcom.
That version was designed by Akira Kitamura, who also directed Mega Man 1 and 2.
Disappointing ending!

57 million dollars in the box office versus a 35 million dollar budget is hardly a flop.

Not a woman!
I DONT
Bhai ye game kahan say download ho gi
I don't know.🤔

***** A SNES port would be better though
+CDProductions66 Or a reprogrammed version by SEGA for the SEGA GENESIS like Ghouls n Ghosts, Strider, Mercs, Forgotten Worlds and Mega Twins
CDProductions66 Probably not. A bunch of CPS1 ports on SNES sounded awful, like Final Fight, Street Fighter II, U.N Squadron, Magic Sword, Captain Commando, etc.
i used to drop so many nickles on this game back in the days of the nickle arcades
I how he dives for all them coins when he beats a boss. Greedy peck!
I don't buy the first boss. Everyone knows ROUSs don't exist.
Biggest movie flop made into a arcade game? I think this is it.
