  • This was a service call on a Hoshizaki Ice machine that wasn't working properly. I found the machine to have several problems and in the end the customer chose to replace the machine rather than repair it. Let me know what you think about the video in the comments.

    Every time you service a gross ice machine, I rethink ordering iced drinks in bars or restaurants.

    Outta the box, on a hoshi turn dip switches 1&2 on for extended harvest, and I may be wrong but I thought hoshi requires a 1/2 water line feed, looked like that ecolab had a 3/8 line running to the machine. Again. Good video

    Nice, thorough walk-through on your process with these machines. I appreciated your adding the calculation factors as well! Great detail. I have no doubt that customer was super well educated and informed by you, a lifelong customer if that keeps up! Glad they got the new units, (I was afraid I was going to have to break out my ball-peen hammer there for a second! "Tap-tap") ;-) But seriously, great work as always, well done!

    Great walk thru.
    Have not worked on Hoshi, but so much of what you covered applies to all IMs. My only comment would be for new techs to realize an X lb rated machine is label rated at perfect conditions; ambient condenser and water supply temps will affect real world production.
    So many of my facility's concessions ice machines are crammed into unconditioned closets. Insane.

      If I was to buy an ice machine myself it would be a hoshizaki, just make sure it is properly installed with a hoshizaki water filtration system the proper water line sizes and the delivered water meets hoshizakis gpm requirements. The machine will last you a long time

    Honestly it’s sad knowing Hoshizaki isn’t used as much anymore. At one time they were the best. I actually still have a 1991 Hoshizaki R-22 Ice Machine that runs like a champ. And it looks real good while running as well. It sparkles in the kitchen light.

  • @oldpcgamers7450
    @oldpcgamers7450 5 років тому +4

    If you see Ecolab anything just assume that filter is long past gone. I have had the best longevity from those old Hoshizakis. Eventually the evaps split and won't release ice in my experience. I love the new Manitowoks too but the Hoshizakis with floats go on and on. That compressor rotted out is from the water being thrown all around out of the evap. But you know that.

    Love these videos. Since time isn't base 10 though the GPM calculation I would think would be 5 Gal / 2.85 min (where 2 minutes + 51/60 seconds) so the GPM is 1.75. Of course perhaps there is some other basis that took this into account.

    • @SCOTTYD2031
      @SCOTTYD2031 2 роки тому +2

      I was going to write the same thing, he is calculating the gpm wrong. Seconds are base 60 not 10. So TheObiwantoby calculation ii right. Hvacr calculation is 2 1/2 min because calculators are base 10.

    I’m dealing with helping to run an ooooooold Corner Store in a small community on an island; it has 2 walk-in coolers and a 4-door stand up freezer with the big compressor and everything else right on top like self contained systems... which there are even more of: 2x 3-door Pepsi pop coolers and 3 Nestle ice cream freezers, which makes for a hot store in the summer, and because they’ve made some crude holes and vents to the outside to help the hot air escape, it doesn’t even help heat the place much in the winter due to all the cold air getting sucked in from the negative air balance... we need to figure out how we can optimize the ventilation for both situations, even get it on a thermostat so that it just switches back and forth from summer mode to winter mode automatically as needed. 🤔
    Might be as simple as adding 2 large ventilation fans with those flapper vents that only let the air travel in one direction, one on the outside vent hole and one facing the store through the plywood box that’s hiding the area the compressor is in so that in summer only the outside one runs venting all the heat and in winter only the inside one runs, making the warmed air recirculate... shouldn’t cost a whole lot but it should make a difference... I think.

    if the compressor is leaking why waste the time? the machine isnt going to last even a few weeks. this only shows that your tactic of checking everything and looking at it all.. is in the end just milking the clock.. i agree with it dont get me wrong but in this instance you needed to walk away. this machine is hopeless.

    • @DabblelyDiddly
      @DabblelyDiddly 5 років тому +1

      AND in the end you didn't change the compressor. so you can't argue that was cheaper. these hozi machines from what ive seen watching your videos as a bored person just tell me these are flawed machines. why not encourage the owner to a newer machine that runs probably less power per pound of ice and has the capability of doing basic cleaning on its own? just a thought... if i were in the situation with a pile of crap like this... id just move on to a new appliance.

    How do you feel about servicing thoose nasty things..? You only clean them but thats not enough to be used after you repair them, im soo grossed out nobody should accept fixing such gross looking icemachines.. the customer should be told to change the whole machine when its soo gross.. i couldnt life with myself fixing such gross machines knowing it will service ppl..
