Amy (and no doubt your rock Kyle), I'm a secondary school teacher and can tell you that mental health is now a massive, massive issue with younger people. Without doubt 99% of this is because of social media. I'm 55 years of age and so have enough experience to face my demons. My year 10 tutor group do not. You are an inspiration and should seriously consider working with young people. Not only would they benefit massively from your honesty and advice but you might also feel better about yourself? I know I have had very black periods in my life and the kids I've taught and helped have often kept me sane. Love your content, so inspirational.
Ahh thank you! Teaching sounds like a tough job, I used to love working with the kids when I was a nurse but it wasn't good for me at the time! I do sometimes teach swimming to kids and love that - I'd love to do something like speaking in schools but we'll see! Thank you again ☺️
Cycling was huge when I discovered it. I’m very very disabled by my mental illness, there is a lot I can’t do independently and have either lived in mental health units or care homes for most of the past 8-9 years and now live at home with 24/7 carers. My driving licence was revoked because of my mental health and I discovered cycling which gave me back my freedom, as I’ve got more into it the more free I feel. On the bike I don’t need carers, I don’t feel different, it’s just me and my wheels. So good for the soul and the mind!
I'm thankful for your channel, Amy & Kyle. You're fortunate to have friends and family who support you. Don't discount their impact, b/c not all of us have that.
Amy you are a breath of fresh air! Your openness and frankness is exemplary and no doubt all of that and your tips will be of great assistance to all as we all have days and times when things aren’t quite right. As for the cycling, it is good to follow your stories and adventures especially if you enjoy the bike without necessarily wanting to aim for the Tour De France. Thank you for all of the stories, adventures, variety and the whole bike vibe! Take care and keep on rolling. Also a hello to Kyle, a good companion to have along with your stories. Sm (Melbourne, Australia)
Ahh thank you!! Glad you’re enjoying the channel & yes haha defo no aiming for Tour de France, although I like a challenge that’s out of my league 😂 thanks for watching and Kyle says hi!
Thank you for this vlog. Two tips. Firstly, embrace your vulnerability. None of us are perfect. Secondly, if you haven’t got time to spend 10 minutes in nature, spend an hour and move on. Take care ❤❤.
Amy, your a breathe of fresh air, always manage to make me smile! I live the tips, all great, especially the get out with friends...love your "he he😃👍, adorable"
All good tips. I have a procrastination problem, thinking about all the chores/jobs I need to do. Then I don't do any of them, and more and more build up, and I forget a lot of things I needed to do. This leads to bad anxiety. So my tip is to write a list of all the things you need to do (with a real pen on real paper), and go through them one by one. Sometimes when you see it written down, you realise it's not even that much, so you fly through the list.
Oh my goodness yes I do this too - I'm currently sat with my post-it note next to me with my list for today - I'm already over half way through the list, ticking them off is so satisfying haha!
Hi Amy I have suffered with my mental health on and off for a few years now and I have found cycling a great help just to get out into the countryside or just a good cycle seems to help me
NAILED IT!!! This is your mission in life IMO Amy. Everyone you get back what you put out; law of the universe. Put out negativity get it back, so be hopeful, kind, understanding, and help everyone you can. My mental health tip if you are suffering from a mental issue is to acknowledge that anything is possible. Accepting that it is possible for you to change is the major step to you getting there. The journey is a lot shorter than you think. Kyle don't quit your day job LOL. Lots and lots of love to you Amy keep inspiring people ,and that is the real adventure!
Thanks for all your tips Amy, you’ve the best, always make me smile & feel happy, just been out for a couple of hour ride this morning, blue sky when I left, furthest point from home light rain, about 3 mins after I put the bike away proper rain, so glad I went out, cycling always makes you feel good😊
Glad you liked them! I was the same today, pure blue sky when I left, then a rain shower & finished with a sprinkle of rain but was great to get out! Glad you enjoyed your ride ☺️
I’ve struggled on and off for 20 years Amy. But antidepressants (with some trial and error) plus therapy and the lifestyle measures you mentioned have really helped and I never hit rock bottom any more. These days I check in with my close friends regularly and ask if everything is ok. Men in western society find this hard because of our culture but younger men are starting to overcome this thankfully.
Sorry to hear you've struggled too, well done for not giving up! And aww that's lovely, checking in with friends is so important, have a great weekend! Yes I think there's a way to go but hopefully more people can feel confident to reach out for help.
Reassuring words there Amy with plenty to pick at and think about, not all of us (me, yet?) are much past the recently developed stages of these issues. It's nice to hear an experienced person giving tips to newbies 😁 Many thanks and appreciation 🚲👏👌👍
Been there, ptsd after serving in fire service. You're spot on seek proper advice to help with the demons that run about your head. Cycling and being out in fresh air is great. If we could put exercise in a pill form, I think a lot of mental health issues could be helped. Men are the worst for seeking help. Keep up the good work keep Cycling always try to be positive, don't take it out on Kyle, he's a top bloke. All the best to both of you
Sorry to hear that, hope things are better for you now. Cycling really is great, and yes I sometimes wish I could bottle up the bike ride feeling! Thank you so much & and don't worry haha Kyle is treated like the king he deserves to be, (unless he's left a pile of pots in the sink and his washing on the floor 😂 😂)
I’ve had these periods of depression on and off and I’m learning to deal with them but I’m also Trying to improve my mental health (I also cycle myself) and these tips will help sooo much, thx Amy ❤
Hi Amy what a lovely video, it is Lisa sending you the message on my husband’s mail. We like watching your videos it makes me happy. 😊 We can’t wait to get out on our bikes when the weather is nice.
Thanks Amy for all the tips you give and for being so honest with your feelings... A year ago I was in a very dark place with illness which lead to depression. that is always good to talk to other people about how your are feeling.... touch wood! I am managing to work 15 hours a week now and getting some cycling and a little swimming. Hopefully the better weather will make us all feel good. P.S. Kyle should turn a professional catwalk lol! 🤣 ride safe!!
Sorry to hear you were struggling, but glad that things are a little better, enjoy the cycling & swimming - you'll be signing up for a triathlon soon haha! Yes i'm currently looking at the pouring rain out the window and hoping that means the weekend will be dry! Haha yes I agree, Kyle to the catwalk 😂
Hi Amy this is the first time I've watched one of your videos but really like your down to earth approach and especially the mental health tips. I have struggled myself and your tips have been quite useful. I'm guessing you doing these vlogs actually helps you too so keep up the good work. I run a small gravel club in east yorks not that far from you so maybe some day we could do a club invitational rides.
Great film as usual, and great advice. I struggle with my mental health, and could probably do with a club to ride in. But even riding solo, and walking my dog helps. Like you said, moving about and getting fresh air is really good for you.. And by the way, your teeth are fine and your face is definitely not fat..
Thank you 🫶🫶 sorry to hear you struggle, I’m glad you have things that help too, thank goodness for cycling! Yes I defo like a good mix of solo and club riding, club rides are great for when you need some company ☺️
Hi Amy love your channel. Just a quick query- when you did Mersey roads 24 hour cycle event is there place to park & set up a gazebo for cover next to your car?
Surely obsessing over numbers is no good for your mental well being IE miles ridden, elevation gained, average speed power to weight,FTP and how much we weigh. On the other hand riding your bike to explore,be free and have fun does wonders for your mental health.stay safe and keep up the good work👍
Another tip you could add is to stay away from negative people. And keeping the News to a minimum. When I was at work years ago we had this girl and she was constantly bitching about everything and everybody. I fisiclay felt down being in her presence. She was like a dark thunder cloud And yet other people have made me feel giddy with joy and happiness just being in their presence.but that doesn't happen to much. Fresh air dose you good.

Body image is a huge issue for me from a mental health point of view, currently suffering with eating disorders. This is meant as a call in not a call out. Being sponsored by Siroko, please can you consider that their size small waist measurement is 23.6 inches. Their largest, an XL, is 29.1 inches. This is their largest size and measures just above a UK size 12. Please please PLEASE consider asking the brands that you work with to look at their size ranges. And also reconsider offering mental health advice when the brand that is supporting you to make the video doesn’t fit the average woman’s body size in the uk. If you believe cycling should be a safe and happy place for everyone please have a think about this. With love xx
Thank you for highlighting this to me, as you probably know I struggle with body image & have had an eating disorder so I'd hate to make anyone feel negative about their body. Amy. Tip for you. Sprinkle chai latte on your porridge. I guarantee youll love it. Asda £3.50 a tin
Ohhh thanks!
Came for Kyle's catwalk, but stayed for Amy's mental tips.
I checked out Siroko, they are now very size inclusive, do they think that only women who have a waist under 36 inches cycle?
It's something I am going to feedback to my contact there - thanks for pointing this out to me 🫶🏼
@@amy.cycling.adventures thank you, it is frustrating. I cycle about 7000km a year but most brands only go up to a 36" waist.
I got tinnitus!

which jacket is she wearing?
It’s a Siroko one ☺️ there’s a link to a discount in the description ~ the mens version is the one Kyle is wearing at the end
