If you have cats, you’ve probably seen one of them throw up at one time or another. Many cat owners accept this as a natural part of owning a pet, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Because vomiting is common in cats, how do you know what’s normal? A general guideline is that if the cat is vomiting one to three times a month, we consider this normal. Repeated cat vomiting should never be ignored because it can lead to dehydration. In this episode, you’ll learn why cats vomit in the first place, when to take your feline friend to the vet, and what treatments are available to help the cat feel better.
In cats, it can be difficult to tell the difference between vomiting, regurgitation, and coughing. These are all very different and come with different possible causes, so it is important to try to differentiate between them.
Vomiting is the active motion of ejecting contents from a cat’s stomach and small intestines out through their mouth. This is different from regurgitation, which is a passive motion where no force is needed to eject contents through the cat’s mouth. You might also mistake it for coughing if you didn’t witness anything coming out.

Shirley here, had this with my cat a week ago. Took her to vet wasn't eating just very little then just once in awhile quarter size foam. Vet did a x ray no blockage liver looked good no urine problem. She just had a little upset tummy which they can get like humans she's fine now.

My cat is 15 years old. She's been throwing up almost everyday for the past month and recently she's been peeing outside of her litter box. Not intentionally I think she just can't hold it anymore 😢. Taking her to the vet tomorrow

Hello my cat is male and he is 1 year old .
My cat started throwing up this morning and after he started throwing up again , after I went to a vet immediately and the vet said that he is ok just he has a catch a cold the vet did him some antibiotics . My cat is energetic and he eats but this evening me cat throw up 3 more times again . I’m concerned and very anxious. I don’t anything bad to happened to him he is my cure for my severe depression 😢
I relate to you so much! My male cat is almost 2 years old but he started throwing up and I’m also super concerned since he won’t eat as much and is getting skinny. His throw up is pink with what seems like blood clots and some foam. I changed food and he still vomits. I’m so scared of losing him. He’s literally my baby and helps me feel better all the time and just like you is helping me with my depression. I really hope your cat is doing better.

I wish my cat would stop choose my rug or carpet. When I hear this do THAT meow, I grab a paper towel and place him on top in the kitchen. When I can’t catch him before he starts, he seeks a rug! Ugh…his bathroom triggers it even if it’s clean.

some wet food that says "sensitive stomach and skin." Should we stop all this except for the dry food?

Hello Salma! From what you're saying, it may be gastritis, pancreatitis, renal problems, hyperthyroid, food intolerance or a foreign body. I don't know how old is your cat or under what circumstances did this occur. As you can see, it is difficult to make a correct diagnosis without blood tests, X-ray or abdominal ultrasound. I recommend an appointment by your vet as soon as possible! All the best to you and your cat!
My cat just started throwing up white and yellow bile and I’m a bit worried bc now she’s now drinking water of eating as much. She just seems tired she doesn’t even harass me for food in the morning or night. Nor does she run through the house like she use to and this just started on Saturday night.
Hello there! From what you're saying, it doesn't look good, and you should visit your vet ASAP. In order to give your cat the right diagnosis, your vet will likely do a blood test and give your pet an infusion (that's what I would do) All the best to your feline friend!

Hi there, and sorry for getting back to you so late! If your cat has ate a poisoned rat, it is possible that it may have been poisoned itself. Some poisons prevent blood clotting, while others cause damage and failure in specific organs or systems, such as the brain or kidneys. If the cat begins exhibiting signs of toxicity, take the cat to an emergency vet clinic. Waiting too long to seek care can put your cat’s life at risk. All the best to your cat!
My cat unfortunately eat socks, she vomited some Pieces of the socks and some of fabric. After one day of not eating, when I back home she vomited yellow liquid. What shoud I do

Thank you for the video, my cat has been throwing up once a day for the last month or so. He will usually throws up many hours after he eats. At first he wasnt pooping and we assumed it was a blockage, we got him some lubercant and i think it helped cause he starting pooping again. He is still vomiting everyday, we havent changed his diet, the vomit looks like digested food, he still has apetite and hasnt changed in personality. We are clean and he stays indoors only. We dont have any plants other then roses. We dont know what to do anymore and dont have money for vet. What do you recomend?
Hello, and sorry for getting back to you so late. In the case of cat vomiting, many factors are pivotal. It is important whether it is a young or an old cat, short-haired or long-haired. Does he get anything else apart from his food, such as snacks or a cat grass? Some cats cannot tolerate cat grass and get gastritis from it. To start with, I would suggest changing the food, and taking stomach protection medicine. If this does not bring improvement, blood tests and an abdomen ultrasound examination should be performed. @@PetAlertWithDr.Alicia2021 I really appreciate you replying. He is about two years old, he is half main coon and has long fur, we give him a bath atleast once a month and try to brush him. We give him cat treats sparingly. Since he started puking about a few months ago we have changed out the food many times and are now buying the very expensive healthy stuff. We have been giving him cat nip a few times a month for years. We also bought multiple lubricants recomended by the vet. With these changes he stopped puking everyday and now about every three days. What kind of stomach protection medicine would you recommend and at this point i feel like taking the finacial hit and go to the vet. Thank so much, I know you dont have to reply to these and the fact that you are makes you an angel lol.

Hello there! My first question is, what do you feed your cats? Do they eat colored dry food or snacks? If so, I suggest changing to a high-quality single-color food. Also make sure they aren't nibbling on any plants or something else. If you've ruled out all of these and your cats continue to vomit, I'd advise you to go to the vet for an appointment. My cat has been throwing up everyday for the past week the second day she threw up pink liquid and a plant but after that she would throw up every time she ate we moved our house plant she likes eating but she keeps throwing up food and it started when she ran out of food but when we got the food she started throwing up again and my mom doesn’t think she needs to go to the vet what do you think?
Hello Lilly, from what you're saying it sounds pretty serious. Pink liquid probably means hemorrhagic gastritis/gastroenteritis or pancreatitis. You should take your cat to a vet as soon as possible. All the best to your feline friend!

In this case, I would advise visiting your veterinarian and doing a blood test, an x-ray and an abdominal ultrasound. If all those tests turn out OK, then it might be an IBD or a food intolerance. I hope this helps and all the best for your cat!
