I had to use my tenkara USA Amano rod... gotta do a lot of jogging back and forth with the fish, also pause and give the fish slack and he’ll go back in his line then put the tension on him again. Lotta hopping back and forth lol
I have been waiting for some Tenkara steelhead videos. Not much information anywhere. What tippet did you use? The kiyose's are only rated to 5x if I recall. That looks like a lot of fun. Looking forward to more videos!
I was using 6lb test for the tippet (kind of got away from buying spools of tippet for economic reasons.....I get way more line for a better price by purchasing mono spools). I don't recall the tippet rating for this rod, but didn't want to go too heavy. The forecast in my area is calling for rain all week, which should get the fish moving in the smaller tribs, I am hoping to get out again at the end of the week if the conditions are OK. I agree, not much out there for tenkara steelhead fishing. Definitely new territory for me!
i have some decent footage/ well pictures ( havent worked on the videos yet) of some tenkara steelhead fishing. if you check my instagram page you can see pictures. "StreamFishingOhio) i live in the northeast ohio area myself
nice video, i also have that rod as well as the 43, i have the nissin flying dragon carp rod 53 thats rated for 3x tippet and the nissin keiryu zerosum 20ft that can take 10lb tippet, these rods might be more up to the task, and then theres always my rudow 8500 28ft salmon rod rated up to 16lb test
+Dean Azarnush thanks for watching. I've been considering the nissin keiryu zerosum myself. My current rods will work on streams this size of this one, but I have concerns on bigger water.
Aaron Kaminski once the rivers get really big try use longer line. It's kind of awkward at first but start with 1 and quarter length then 1 and half the length of Ur rod Edit- seen some videos where they were using twice the length or more lol
your pushin it with the kiyose 53, i have one too. perhaps try a nissin flying dragon carp rod edit- and if you wanna go crazy, look at the rudow 8500 Pole and line, a 28ft salmon rod
I agree. I have been considering the flying dragon or possibly the kiyogi. The Rudow is interesting, not sure i need the 28' on most of the waters I fish.
Beautiful stream, it was cool seeing all the fish swimming around on the video! Looks like a fun way to target them for sure!
Got my first Tenkara Erie Steelhead last year on that stream last year; about 100 yards down.

That is great! Beautiful fish in a great looking tributary!
That wooly bug pattern
looks deadly nice video.
Cool... I'm not the one for big fish but man, i would like to have seen it come for a picture.
Awesome video and beautiful fish. I just subscribe to your channel as always happy fishing and tight lines.
