So glad you mentioned the letter in the end. Our great law enforcement men and women need all the encouragement they can get right now. Keep it up Mike.
Hey Mike! I’m currently serving as Active Duty Military, I just wanted to say that I look up to you! I see that you design and fly your own aircraft, and that’s enough to leave any aviator amazed, well, at least me lol. I’m 20 years old and everyday I aspire to be like you someday in the future! Love the projects, keep up the awesome work! It’s absolutely humbling to be able to see every little thing come together to make a beast! Stay High Above The Best🤘🏽
Thank you so much!! All my best to you for a future full of success. And, I appreciate your military service. 🤠
Mike, you invent so many creative things while you're working on Scrappy. I thoroughly enjoy each video. Thank you.
16:55: Guy building a Custom Carbon cub with a one-of-a-kind 500Hp 8 cylinder Lycoming race motor, an airboat prop, suspension from a Baja racer, and a panel full of Garmin glass: "Alright guys, I might have gotten a little bit carried away here."
Literally everyone else in the world: "You've just now noticed?"
❤️🤍💙. Mike what you do is give your time, which one of the most valuable things a man can do & we all appreciate it!!!!
Although I live on the Isle of Wight amongst steam engines and the like, I always come here to see you, Mike, giving that breath of energy, absolute ingenuity, detail and appreciation of everything going on around you. Thanks Mike and your team. Back to work!. Pete.
As a weight engineer and pilot, I can appreciate the hours put into shaving weight on the tiniest of details. You’re the STEM inspiration our youth needs to secure a better tomorrow! Thanks for the great vids Mike!
I have followed this channel thru Draco and now Scrappy and although I no longer fly, I find this a complete JOY to watch. Thank you for enhancing my dreams. Can’t wait to see further progress. Thanks to both you and your brother.
@1.40 he's super excited again - is he ever not ?
what a life you have Mike , fantastic work
Just a little shout out to you and your fellow flying cowboys !!! Thanks to you and your videos I am back into flying again !!! I started my lessons over 30 years ago but couldn’t finish due to a stint in the Army and marriage and 2 perfect sons !!!! Your videos inspire me to keep going with my lessons and working towards my ppl. !!! Keep up the great work and be safe !!!!!
Thank you for being such an amazing roll model Mike. Your positive, respectful, and appreciative attitude is so attractive. I was fortunate enough to see Draco first hand at Valdez, and I can’t wait to see Scrappy soon. Thanks for what you’re doing!! 👍 “BACK TO WORK”
Scrappy is turning out so awesome... the amount of detail... all I can say is wow!!! Just wow!!!
One of the coolest guy's on UA-cam. Mike Patey. One of the most BADASS stol planes on UA-cam. SCRAPPY. 🤠
Thanks.....Mike.....Firing Rockets...Yaa.....You sir are an awesome fellow.....Blessing for you and your beautiful family.....Thanks for taking the time to share part of your life....!
I stumbled on to the "Scrappy" build somewhere in the early teens of the project videos. I was so impressed with both the project and the fierce enthusiasm, mad skills, and mind boggling work ethic of Mike Patey, that I went back and pretty much binged the series up to this point. Loved the four bar, complete with airfoil, landing gear solution, by the way. Anxiously looking forward to the next installment. Beyond my role of spectator and fan, I just wish there was some process where I could get a transfusion of whatever powers this man. Super impressed.
Yours is a channel I regularly find myself slapping the 👍less than 1 min into all your videos. Loving the regular uploads 🙂
Hey Mike, I wanted to tell you. Your channel reignited a childhood dream of flying. My first Discovery Flight is Tuesday!!! 👍🏻
More Mike Patey Magic!! Thanks Mike Scrappy is going to be truly Awesome!! Locked down in the UK Fly Safe!
It's a remarkable thing to fabricate a select something for a single application, but to make multiple copies by hand with enthusiasm shows a significant driving force not often seen. A HUGE thumb's up to you and your extraordinary tenacity!!
No one compares to your enthusiasm, energy and ability. I watch your show for aeronautics, Danger Marine for all things boats and Gridlessness, a Canadian couple with 5 kids living off grid in Northern BC Canada for all things off grid.
Every single build video from Mike Patey is very inspiring.
Love the detail you are able to achieve as a 1 man shop. It's also clear that your rapid prototype business has provided a wealth of experience. Most of us often get too hung up in the details making it hard to make rapid decisions - a product of the corporate model.
The more I watch, the more I want to see! This never gets old. Great father/son story too. This project and all that goes into it is so inspiring. I’m not particularly into aviation, but the engineering, manufacturing and assembly are simply fascinating! Mikes energy and enthusiasm is incredible. Looking forward to the next video.
Your attention to detail, such as eliminating the lock wobble, is very impressive!
I have the luck with timing as I live in Europe, so the videos are uploaded during the night. Waking up to a notification of another M.Patey video warms the soul. Whatever stuff is happening in life, starting the day with 30min of Patey enthusiasm/positivity really twists any day for the better. I was just taken back as I realised how much my mood changed in just 30min of this therapy.. :) Good job Mike! Looking forward to the next one.. Back to work! :)
Mike, I cannot wait to see Scrappy fly. As a welder fabricator , I know the level and amount of work that goes into custom builds, especially side projects. Scrappy is going to be a masterpiece that will make Draco pale in comparison. Thank you for including us in all the processes that go into it. Love and prayers coming your way! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ive been welding over 30 years. This mans tig welding is artwork
Draco resting nearby na na na can't hear you this scrappy thing is a passing fad I'll be back pistons are for 🤬
Mike I am in the Army active duty and you videos definitely make the time go by. I START MY PPL training this Tuesday and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve been waiting for this time in my life and your videos give me a new perspective. Keep up the great work and hopefully someday I can be in the clouds with yah!👍🏾
I can see Mike getting Scrappy done, doing the fly off, waking up in the middle of the night and running out to the shop and putting the supercharger back on.😜
I am from the UK, have never flown a plane but love your channel, always looking forward to it. Today you inspired me, i have bought an RC Carbon Cub and I am going mini bush flying! I live in the South of ~England, sea on one side and forest and sand and scrub on the other side! Perfect. Thanks for inspiring me. Jonathan
Your letter from the 14 year old boy brought back memories, and I wish that we had your videos to watch when Dad and I (as a kid) were working on his planes. We completely rebuilt a couple of Champs, a Chief and a Tri Ppacer, adding mods and updating them to the latest specs. My Dad has been gone for 10 years and I am now 69, but I know that he would have loved to watch all of your videos, as I do. The Draco series is still my favorite...Now THAT was some cutting edge engineering! You are a master craftsman! Get back to work!
Loved the shout out to Ben and Ed. Those washers and latches are great. a simple fix for something that can get to be really annoying. Time well spent.
Awesome update, Mike! You still keep surprising me! Back to work! 💪🏻
Not being an aviator just a fan of all things physics I find all your vids fasinating Mike, your attention to detail from the Draco Build and now Scrappy is just enthralling. Keep up the great work, a Uk fan.
@Mike Patey
I love your videos. You should consider posting long format dumps of footage with little editing, would be nice to see even more of the "boring" technical nitty gritty of you getting things done. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos and show us your great projects.
I have watched every video since before Draco...Today once I saw the doors and control covers I got a woody...How friggin cool..what a Plane!!..I bet you could ask anything you wanted for it and some guy in Dubai would peel off the cash in an instant!!..You Sir are truely a Talented man...👍👍👍🇺🇸
The plane may be called Scrappy but Mike's a Beast! I appreciate the enthusiasm and energy you bring to these episodes. May you have a clear sky and a steady tailwind every trip. 🙏
Mike, those details like the proper offset on the latch plates for the locks are important. First, you will know it is worth it because you know it’s right. That’s why I’m here, to see homebuilding done well. Thanks!
Such good stuff! I’m inspired every time I watch Mike! I’ve been building a large scale RC STOL plane the hangar 9 Timber 110. It’s no scrappy or Draco, but it’s as close to building a plane like that, that I can get. Every time I watch Mike’s videos though, it inspires me to keep building and even custom change things. I love the story at the end about the father and son. Keep em coming, Mike! Cheers! -Clint
Just imagine building something and having Mike inspect it... the brains on this guy and the attention to detail are pretty out of this world.
Got home at 1 am last night, saw a new Scrappy upload, had to watch it before finally going to bed.
You defy nature! I learn so much from your process. Cant wait to see 8' launches off the suspension pre-load. Thanks for being that good.
Well done! I’m blown away with the workmanship and detail. I honestly wish I had your skill set as my aircraft that I built over the years are safe and reliable but made out of wood wire fabric and aluminium!
Another awesome video. Mike's enthusiasm for fabrication and building is infectious. I like how you are so attentive to even the slightest detail. Scrappy is going to be a sweet flying airplane. Very anxious for the maiden flight, although the Scrappy build videos will come to end, however; excitement for what comes next!
Seems like I see a new tool every episode! A shop/hangar tour would be so cool!!
Mike, we just love you!!! You could breathe life into a road kill woodchuck!!!!
Mike is amazing to watch. If I knew even half of what he does, my head would start overheating. Every little detail is always perfect. I would just say screw it, and throw some zipties on lol
I saw this video pop up and clicked right away. Best video I've seen all day. I understand everything you described. Like a gas strut pushes on a bell crank past neutral and then pulls in, I get it. I guess I have similar mechanical understanding. Thanks, no music that ruins videos. "Back to work"
Mike, you are correct. 💯% All of those minute weight reductions equate to substantial weight savings! What an engineer! 👏
My guy, that energy is just phenomenal. Smiling while working means I love what im doing
I’m just amazed every time I watch one of your video’s. You are one amazing man, thanks for bring us along. Can’t wait for the next one. Scrappy’s going to be a beautiful amazing plane. You put your heart into it as every thing you build or fly.
So nice to see you put on some PPE when working around Carbon Fibre. Especially when cutting and sanding it, take care Mike! We need to see you live a good long life so we can see all your great ideas!
Mike I could watch you fabricate all day long. Seeing you go from inspiration to finished product is tremendous and makes me want to get off my ass and back to work... thus the dilemma, watch and learn or get dirty putting parts together in my shop.
This....is....getting.....excitinggggggggg!!! You think you were excited over those doors, holy moly that whole process was cool....I can’t wait to see what’s next.
Mike gets more done in a weekend than I have in the last decade
Truth
He has $$$
Jeremy also 🧠 and endless 🏃💨
@@-SonZetta- yea, but $$$. Easy to stay motivated when the money tree is in bloom year round.
More in 5 mins than my last decade.
Someone talking "it's a nightmare," with such an excitement is Just the portion of good energy I needed, thank u Mike 😁
You should do a shirt or like a band that says "let's get back to work". Really inspiring that you just go and go and go! Big fan of the process!
Wow....another great video....wish I were younger so I could get into aviation...but maybe my kids will one day...it's sucha great pasttime!
Gosh you just can't put out these videos fast enough!!! I love watching you go to work on a beautiful piece of engineering. Thank you for taking the time to document this.
Mike,
I would like your day to have at least 36 hours, so you could post a video a day. I admit that after I saw your last video I look forward to the next one. Congratulations on what you do for aviation and
for having so much fun. My best regards.
Mike, another great video. You are my favorite UA-camr. As soon as I get a notification that you posted another video, I stop everything I am doing to watch it. Keep up the great work!
The energy is awesome! The words final assembly seems to have come quickly.
Having started out myself as a apprentice of Steve Wittmans apprentice with the Tailwind going faster on less horsepower I'm just as excited about being able to fly slower with more horsepower.. awesome craftsmanship 👍🤯👍
Mike: "got High End Tubular Locks"... Lockpicking Lawyer: "Actually..."
Nice to know I’m not the only one with ocd about every little thing. Pretty positive I still have you beat though Mike. I know, hard to believe, but it’s true. Awesome awesome awesome! Your inspiration led me to get back into doing carbon fiber again and I am really enjoying it. Keep up the good work!
Always love seeing the latest Scrappy video, gonna be an awesome plane cant wait to see that landing gear in action and those wings that will sheath it
There is nothing scrappy about Scrappy. This thing is a masterpiece of precision engineering.
Even with all the other outside the box design ideas, the luggage door pivot idea is probably the coolest 😎😎
I have an idea for the doors seen at 25:00 into the video, that yellow around the edges really is a grate indicator to show if the door's are shut, open or accidentally opened some how. Mike I'm a young individual who is working far far from home on farms and haven't seen my family in over 2 and a half years to save money to do my pilot licences and chase my dream of being a commercial pilot, when times get tough and I find my self asking why I'm doing this I remind my self by watching your videos. The sheer passion of aviation that flows through you is what keeps me going... SO BACK TO WORK!!
❤️🤍💙 Nice Work Mike!!!! Well worth the time that you put into it, especially on a built like this you don’t want things moving around & not fitting correctly!!!!
The difference between you & individuals like myself “ there’s only one way to do things either the right way or the wrong way and you certainly do things the right way!!
Thank you Mike for posting these videos
Anything worth doing is worth doing right.
Mike, you’re doing it right. Scrappy is going to be the finest bush plane in the world.
"Overkill is under rated" -Hannibal Smith
Mike your attention to all the details will make Scrappy another Breathtaking One of a Kind 🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Mike, I always learn something new and interesting from you! Thanks for always sharing your work with us!
You are an amazing engineer. Love watching you work.
Another amazing episode and far more learning for me... Wish I had half the knowledge and ability that Mike has... Can't wait to see more episodes... and even more so the new and improved DRACO project when that comes up!!!!
Mike I am going crazy watching you build Scrappy I want to do mine so bad but have to have neck surgery for injuries sustained in the Army can't wait I have been living in pain for 40 years then after neck heals then the lower back but you give me such great ideas for my experimental PA12 instrument panel carbon fiber same with doors, floor and tail and cabin section.
Mike you just inspire me everytime I watch your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Very inspirational, thanks for taking the time to share!
I love this series. I admire your work ethics.
Keeping with the theme, Chuck Norris goes to Mike for advice on his spin kick and adds more power with less effort.....keep em coming Mike can’t wait to see the next video!
The thing that floored me most about this video is Mike actually going to sleep for once. XD
'Finally!'
laying in bed at night is 'designing new parts, designing new suspension, designing new wings" and that is done off camera
Great fan segment at the end...so cool! Hey Mike, your attention to the smallest (the most work) detail is why you are special, I used to crew chief on my buddies late model stock car and it was always the little things that make a project special, as always, love your work and attitude, cheers for now!! Jerry Delyea (youtube) ppg Canada
When I think you have got it all figured out, "Bam" you do something else amazing. A true Joy to watch Mr. Mike........
I don't know where you get the time or energy to do all that work, but Scrappy is turning out AWESOME!
Just can't wait for the next Video to come Out! Fabu!..Work Mike!
I always enjoy your videos. Seems like the kind of shop I would love to work in. Always seems like a fun place to be and a unique learning environment. Even you learn something new every day. My goal is to build my own STOL.
Another fun and very interesting installment of The Scrappy Diaries! Thank You, keep them coming, it will be glorious to see this bird in the air!
This video proves it, Mikes spirit animal is a worker bee hahaha. Laughed so hard at the honeycomb eyes.
Well that was fun! 😄 This UA-cam channel and dogman encounters are my two favorite! 🐺
You are simply amazing Mike!
Mike's comment about saving a 100 grams lots of times adds up to a significant saving, reminds me of F1 design philosophy. They do the same thing but not just with weight. They look at every component and assembly, trying to gain a fraction of 1% improvement with each one. That sounds so like what Mike is doing with Scrappy.
Where does engineering cross artistry? Scrappy and Mike Petey! Thanks for sharing! Stay healthy!
Just amazing engineering.......thank you for sharing your passion.
The increased rate of videos is really appreciated!!
I love watching these videos. Thanks for making them.
Thank you Mike for these videos...they're inspirational.
Building a door...how interesting can that be?........Watched from start to finish...Great job!!!
Love the build! Also love the father son story. My son is 1 and I can’t wait to have the opportunity to do that stuff with him.
Mike, thank you for sharing your knowledge and always awesome attitude with us!! I get so excited when I see you dropped a new vid....Now Get To Work!!!
Just watching you give me energy... thank you.. wish U all the best
Cant get enough of this. Love watching you Mike!
