- In today's video we head to Disney's Hollywood Studios for the media preview of the new ride, Rise of the Resistance in Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. (This vlog was filmed on 12/4/19.) We start the day with the ride and on ride POV video, this attraction is amazing!! It truly sets the bar high for rides in general. I was blown away with the level of detail within the set of the ride, the amount of animatronics, the quality of the screens and the overall scale of the ride. I really did feel like I was in a Star Wars movie, it was awesome! We also got some up close looks at some of the set pieces in Galaxy's Edge, we got to see some speeders closer than we've ever seen them before. Although this isn't something that a normal day guest would be able to do, we were happy to be able to share it here in the vlog. The amount of theming in this land is really impressive! Then we take a quick ride on Smuggler's Run before we head to the media center to show some of the new Mandalorian merch and The Rise of Skywalker merch. We end the day with our thoughts on the new ride, I think this is the best ride out there right now, I was really impressed with all aspects of Rise of the Resistance and I highly recommend riding it when you're at Disney's Hollywood Studios on your next trip! It will be a standby. There will be no line but you check in and can take 2 hours tell you are called. Gives you time to ride mellinum falcon build a lightsaber and eat
ry I’ve been on the ride before, even with the virtual que the line will never be that empty, and they will probably only have the virtual que until the end of this month or a little into next month

You're not kidding. If you aren't on property at 6:30 AM and setting your boarding pass for the day, forget being able to ride this thing.
@@Yourfavbrunette530 6:30 is honestly the latest you want to get on a non busy day. Just went today and got in line at 6. Opened the gates at 6:30 and there were so many people it took an 30 mins for me to get inside the park (right at 7). Boarding pass distribution started at 7 and I got 35. That didn't get me on the ride until nearly 10am. Boarding passes we're gone by like 7:30.
But it's not just about getting a boarding pass. It says that boarding passes 106 and above may not get called to ride so you really need to be there early early or your boarding pass may be pointless.

8:22 I really like how they projected shadows on the ceiling to make it look like whoever that is is real and has a light behind them, but that too is a projection

Wow, great observation!! I hadn't noticed that! Disney is all about the details we didn't think we needed!
When I first saw any video for this, that jumped out at me and I had to rewind because I was suddenly questioning if those were projections or real actors. Then I restarted the whole video and started noticing there are a TON of super nit-picky details like that all over this ride. Things you don't consciously notice really, but that if they aren't there, it feels fake and off. The Imagineers put a huge effort into making this feel real by getting the tiniest details correct. Like matching video in the transport ship to what you just experienced in real life out on the loading platform (day/night versions of video). Or the overhead opaque skylights fading from daylight to black as you leave the atmosphere. Laser bolts from tie/xwings that pass overhead or behind you aren't just flashes of red or green light, they actually travel overhead through those opaque windows and match up with the video out the front/back windows. Or seeing the stormtroopers running into the hangar as the tractor beam pulls you in to reinforce that they aren't just fake mannequins standing there when you get out. Getting out the same door you got into the transport forcing you to admit you have moved making the flight itself feel more real. Those physical shadows added to projections. Actual traveling laser bolts coming from projected stormtrooper blasters. Animatronic blasters that have a physical muzzle flash. The list is just endless. This ride isn't just next level, it is the new gold standard for theme park attractions period. And it's going to be a while before anyone else can touch this level of immersive storytelling.

Tim this is one of the best quality videos I’ve seen of this attraction. You have a very good camera and I can see all kinds of details that I couldn’t make out in other videos. Congrats to you and Jenn and baby Jackson!

You're the only UA-camr I have watched with regards to Rise of the resistance who has mentioned about the side of the ride car swinging out allowing wheelchair user's to do a slide transfer. Information like that is invaluable for both myself and my wife who is a wheelchair user.

I’m so excited to experience it sometime next year! Also, they’ve said that Jackson will not be the focus of their videos going forward and we should respect whatever they decide in regards to privacy surrounding him.
When I pushed a button while waiting at 7:44 , the first order trooper cam over to me and started joking around, in a VERY SERIOUS way. :)
When we were walking around, I was able to play a Star Wars card game found in the movies called Sabacc. There were Cast Members, or citizens, that were just there to play and talk to you. They were meant to make the experience more real. When we asked another worker if he wanted to play, he started announcing it, so many people, including Chewbacca, came to play. I really hope this continues, for it make the experience even better!

I was there today too, but by 9am the ride was already fully booked up for the day. What time did you arrive in the park? Thinking of going back at 5am to get in line.....
@@brickfirst2604 we arrived at 5am and booked our boarding passes as soon as the app allowed us at 7am. It broke down for about an hour yesterday but we were still able to get on by 11am

My first thought was that this is more of an "experience" than a ride. It looks awesome!
It was. It was just incredible. The cast members playing the First Order soldiers we great. They were trying to convince this little kid next to me to join The First Order. Staying in character without being scary for the young ones. It was so incredible to witness it all. Still nothing beats coming off that transport and just being in a Star Destroyer. WOW! Anyone reading this you have to experience this! ESPECIALLY if you are a Star Wars fan.

I would love to see Disney keep the virtual queues. After all, anyone standing in a queue line can’t be spending money elsewhere right?
In order to ride Rise Of The Resistance, my family and I woke up at 4:30am this morning and were at Hollywood Studios for 5:00am. It opened at 6:30 because the line was outside security! Anyways, we got into boarding group 21 and rode the ride at 7:45am. Let me just tell you that this video doesn’t do it justice. Hands down best ride I’ve ever been on and like Tim, I can’t recommend it enough!

I was just at Hollywood studios and no it was not as busy as I thought but if you want to get on rise of the risistance you need to join a boarding group on the Disney app
Yeah, I last year I went over the break as we were busy and that was the only available time and it was the congestion at the parks was horrible.
Peter O’Brien I think it’s not busy because everyone thinks it’s going to be crowded and they don’t go but in reality it’s only galixy’s edge that is busy and all of the other rides were like under an hour for wait time
i was there the week before christmas and it didn't start getting too crazy till the sat/sunday before the holiday
I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between real and screens and machine and that’s incredible.
I was watching the Imagineering documentary and they showed the conception of this ride. It was absolutely insane, major props to the most creative minds on the planet!!!

When you arrived on the First Order's ship and you see the rows of Stormtroopers, I was in aw! That. Was. Amazing!

8:29 this dude managed to star on rides in both universal and Disney theme parks 😂😂 (escape from Gringotts + ROTR)
I rode this last week. I got in line at 6:30am and the park started letting us in at that time. Was in the park standing on the main street with thousands of other people at 7am. Boarding passes were live and taken within 5 minutes. I got boarding group 47 and got to ride around 11:40am. I'm not a huge Star Wars person, but this ride seriously was the most amazing ride I have ever been on! So immersive and made you feel like you were really a part of something out of this world. I highly suggest everyone try to get on this ride, Star Wars fan or not.

Okay I rode this ride twice last week the only part I don’t understand at all is how the plaster cannons that you have to go past are shooting at ships through glass. Someone please explain this to me

Media event, pah! Rub it in man. I got there at 5am with a few thousand other people this morning just to get in a boarding group to ride, but it was AWESOME!!!!!
Thank you for ALWAYS including wheelchair users and disability in your vlogs. At the beginning I was so sure I wouldn't be able to ride ROTR because it said I must be able to transfer which *usually* means be able to stand and walk onto the ride, something I'm unable to do, but when you showed that the side of the carriage opens and I can slide onto the chair (which I CAN do) it made me so happy that a) Disney have made that a possibility and b) that you cared enough to show it! It means more than you'll ever know that you do this.

I've asked other people who rode this but I'm wondering what you would say (or anyone else who wants to comment). I've heard there's a drop or two. I can't really tell but I don't see anything major. Are there drops? I have a VERY timid kiddo who loves star wars but hates coaster hills and such. How would you describe/rate the drops?

I actually prefer it this way, because the focus is less on shooting something and you can take in the details better.
This is a really good idea! I would love to see something like this in the Disney park, just maybe not this ride. There’s so many details and work put into the way the ride looks, that an element like that would force the rider to focus on that more then they should the work put into making a ride this intricate

I'm not even a big "modern" Star Wars fan, but I found myself spending a lot of time in this area, it is definitely the place to be in the park. So detailed. Nothing is sitting there doing nothing, everything makes a noise, everything has a purpose everything interacts it is

Been waiting for this :D Figured Tim would go to the media event. I went when it was first opened to the public on the 5th, and it was amazing. Planning a return trip tomorrow. We got an amazing guy who acted and looked a lot like Hux when we got off the ship on opening day. I was in the far back because I expected the doors to open on the other side. When the door opened in the front it went dead silent. I was actually intimidated when we did the pre-show. I think I liked it more than the ride.
I'm a huge star wars nut, so seeing things like a life-size Mon Calamari (...fish-head guy), and the hologram, and even the lightsaber coming through the ceiling...I'm so stoked for this.
I waited 3 hours for Flight of Passage. I can wait 6 for this if I have to.
I won't be able to go out to Galaxy's Edge any time soon so I have to rely on UA-cam videos to see what attractions are like, especially for Rise of the Resistance. The one part that blows me away even though this is a very small detail of the pre-show is the hologram of Rey. On YT video it looks like the image is being projected in open air, but my brain is guessing that effect must be a Pepper's ghost illusion. Anybody who has ridden RotR and knows practical effects, am I right about my guess on how Disney achieved that or do you think it was done in a completely different way. I would really like to know :)
It could also be a projection onto a clear screen (Pepper's ghost involved the reflection of a physical item), although there's been a lot of development of transparent screens lately. I've seen videos were the image is shot to the side and it looks flat.
