Awol Vision LTV-3500 - Brightest 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector

  • Today we review another one of the projectors that was part of last year's Laser TV Shootout which is the Awol Vision LTV-3500. This projector is the brightest 4k Laser TV that I've reviewed so far. It's not just bright but it also has great color accuracy, fantastic input lag, and great sharpness/focus uniformity. But how does it stack up against the Formovie Theater and the LG HU915QB?

    The Epson LS800 is the brightest UST but it is unfortunately NOT 4K. Both the Awol and the LS800 use pixel-shifting but the Epson's resolution does not meet the CTA's 4K standard and therefore is not considered a 4K projector. The actual resolution is closer to 2K.

      Very glad I spotted this. Lots of videos today but this one made me decide to put on some big boy money for the LTV-3500. ALR screen will have to come later, and Formovie Fresnel ALR screen WILL be coming out in 120" in coming months, according to a question on their Amazon product page! Between both of these... perhaps the ultimate setup?

    Question. I'm new to the thought of even trying to build a home theater. But the timing is perfect because we are currently building a home that will have a dedicated media room. The Media Room dimensions are about 15 1/2 ft wide, and half the room depth is 19'10" and the other half is 23ft, the ceiling is vaulted from 8ft to 10ft (highest point). Would you consider this a small theater room space? Also, do you think the room is big enough to house a 150" screen protector or bigger?

I am looking for the best solution for easy setup and hopefully be able to live with the on board speakers or an easy solution for a blue tooth add. I am leaning towards the Formovie as the price point for a occasional movie night use. I know I will have to change out my current movie screen to a pull down tension and am leaning to the Proslim line tension electric. Chris, I have a BenQ W1070. Its got a 2000K AnSi lumens rating. The specs on the AWOL listed on the website indicate that the 2500 model reaches 2600 "peak" lumens. Some other reviews say that its equivalent to around 2K Ansi. This had me wondering if a 2K ANSI lumens Laser projector measures brighter than a lamp projector with the same ANSI lumens rating.

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  Рік тому +1

      The ANSI lumen rating is a universal standard considering they way it's measured. Although the light source might affect the overall brightness, it doesn't change the ANSI lumen number. In other words, you can use ANSI lumens as a standard regardless of the light source. 2000 ANSI lumens from a laser projector is the same as 2000 ANSI lumens from a lamp.

      Although all of these projectors use pixel-shifting, neither the Epson LS500 or LS800 are 4K. They are marketed as "4K-Pro-UHD" but at best their resolution is closer to 2K (same as the Epson 5050ub). This is why you don't see them talk about native resolution in their marketing material.
      The Awol and most of the other 4K UST projectors I've reviewed also pixel shifting to display a native 4K resolution. Although they still can't produce a 1x1 pixel box, they meet the 4K certification standard and are significantly sharper than the Epsons.
      TLDR: The LS800 and LS500 do not meet the 4K certification standard and therefore are technically not 4k projectors.

I asked them to compare their highly rated single laser BenQ v7050i (500more lumens) to the triple laser AWOL LTV-2500 (expanded color and contrast range) for 3D images and overall quality. Both units are currently selling for $2300. They appear to be biased to their reviews, favoring the BenQ while talking around the direct comparison that I inquired about. Which seems to be somewhat of a cop out. Right Now I'm budget restricted to justify spending an extra $2K for the more desirable 3500 model> And even if I could, Im not sure that would be worth it.

    I should have asked this question last time. Very few reviews out there for the LTV-2500. I understand that because of the increased color gamut of a triple laser that they would theoretically produce a better image than a single. But your eyes have seen! Would you rate the image from the 3rd-6th place triple lasers from the LTV shootout better than the winner, BenQ V7050i. Even though the lumens rating is higher on the BenQ, once Dolby vision is certified on the AWOL 2500, wouldn't that produce a higher quality image. I'm on a $3K budget for the best quality machine that produces 3D. I'm salivating over the Formovie, which is in the price range, but it was explained to me that upgrading it to 3D would require an OS change, not just a simple firmware upgrade. i.e it wont be happening anytime soon.

    For future reference, we want to know:
    Is the projector 3D? Yes, you covered that.
    Does it display frame packing. Well, of course it does as that is Bluray 3D format.
    BUT...
    DOES IT DISPLAY FIELD SEQUENTIAL?
    DOES IT DISPLAY TOP AND BOTTOM?
    DOES IT DISPLAY SIDE BY SIDE?
    Does it accept 3D from a streaming device?
    If the answer to any of these questions is no, then any projector is just a piece of junk, regardless of how good it performs flat. Without 3D, no projector is in the running. I wouldn't accept such a piece of trash as a gift.
    As regards the AWOL, I am delighted to say that it does display all of these 3D formats.

      I mostly agree with you but it's far more complex than that. There are issues that come with very large TVs. Transporting them, mounting them, viewing angle, etc. Aside from screen assembly, UST projectors are fairly easy to install with a little bit of patience and the right kind of stand. And of course you have the ability to do a 150 inch screen that you can see from a very sharp angle from anywhere in the room. It's also portable and can be taken anywhere and setup within seconds if it's just projecting onto a wall. I really thought I'd be excited to see a reasonably priced 98 inch TV but when I consider how easy it's been to switch out these USTs when new models come out I think of the headache that would be involved to mounting, unmounting, storing, and transporting a massive TV.

      @MagDag_ Рік тому +2

      I'm sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with the review. It's important to note that reviews are subjective and everyone has their own opinions and preferences.
      Regarding your concerns about the black and white levels, it's possible that the projector may not have performed as well in those areas. However, it's important to consider that projectors are typically designed for use in darker rooms and may require some calibration to achieve the best image quality.
      As for the lack of an integrated system, some projectors may require additional components such as a sound system or media player. However, this can also provide flexibility in choosing the best components for your specific needs.
      Regarding your comment about Chinese brands and customer support, it's important to note that many Chinese brands have gained a reputation for producing high-quality products at competitive prices. Customer support can vary depending on the brand, but many offer comprehensive support options.
      In terms of price, projectors can be expensive compared to TVs, but they also offer a larger viewing experience that can be more immersive. It's also worth noting that prices for high diagonal 100" TVs are still relatively high compared to smaller-sized TVs.
      Lastly, Dolby Vision is a relatively new technology, and not all projectors may support it yet. However, many projectors offer other high-quality image technologies such as HDR10, which can still provide an excellent viewing experience.
      Ultimately, the decision to wait for a high diagonal 100" TV or purchase a projector is a personal one and depends on individual preferences and needs.
