Ryan Amon is a very talented composer, with whom I had the pleasure of talking many times about his music, and even interviewed him.
I love his ability to use traditional instruments in a non-traditional way or unusual sounds like human breathing (used for the rhythm in the Diablo IV cinematic "By Three They Come").
I highly recommend his music for City of the Fallen, before he turned to video games. It's a beautiful combination of world music with orchestra and sometimes synthesizers / rock, and above all an exotic-sounding female choir, which is the essence of Ryan's talent for creating unusual sounds

I just recently ran into your translation videos from a couple months ago (I'm behind the times, what can I say??). Very glad I did, because Bloodborne is my favorite of the Souls games and it was awesome to see there are real lyrics in (at least) a couple of these songs. Causes me to wonder if there's some lyrics or possibly just short Latin phrases in some of the other songs. Lady Maria's OST, for example. Thank you for the work putting this stuff together.

Just to clarify, I always refer to what the vocals sing (vowels,syllables,words with or without meaning) as lyrics, then I differentiate the ones that are gibberish from the ones that are truly in Latin. This causes confusion, I'm sorry.
A few latinist Friends and i often call this type of grammar "Church latin", mostly written to convey ideas or to be sung.
Actually Sony used the Church Latin pronunciation, not the grammar rules. Church Latin, while slightly different and way more simple than Classical Latin, still respects the grammar rules and it is not disjointed as several Bloodborne lyrics are.
The people composing these are geniuses. Even without understanding the lyrics, the instruments and the vocals convey intended emotions in an incredible way. Laurence's theme is the first one to come to mind but there are countless others. I can't wait for what they'll pull off next. Next AC game probably won't be of same quality and be mostly ambient music but you never know with FromSoft.
I wish Sony could produce more Souls music, see what they did with Bloodborne, it's the best Souls album. Imagine a Bloodborne 2 for example :D

I haven't published the third one yet because I only got the lyrics from mister Amon, so I still need to obtain the text on which they were based in order to know exactly what they're supposed to mean, as the Latin there is disjointed and incorrect.

I made the video as short 'n' fast as possible, I could have added some extra details, for example, obtaining the lore texts that served as the base for the lyrics is as important as to obtain official lyrics themselves, because they clarify what the lyrics really mean, as they're in broken Latin, an accurate translation is almost never possible. The composers can help us get the official lyrics, but they don't have the texts from FromSoftware, at least, mister Ryan told me he didn't.

One of my favourite tracks, if not my #1 favourite track from the Fromsoftware games is "Gehrman the First Hunter", needless to say I don't speak any Latin (I only know that Venator means Hunter), but I have the lyrics to that song memorised.
If you are planning to cover some more of Bloodbornes tracks, it would be very cool to see you cover Gehrman's theme, it doesn't have as many lyrics as something like Ludwig's or Laurence's tracks but still worth checking it out imo.
Yeah, I'll try to confirm all Bloodborne lyrics, but remember I must also obtain the lore texts that served as a base for them. The Latin in these lyrics are incorrect, in most cases, only the lore texts can clarify what they wanted the lyrics to mean.

I didn't publish more official lyrics because mister Ryan Amon doesn't have the English/Japanese lore texts (the ones on which the lyrics were based), thus it is not possible to fully understand the other official lyrics I got due to the grammar/language errors.

I have been waiting for this. Trying to guess what the choir is singing while not knowing Latin was always a mess. The fan translations were interesting, but since the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra did Gehrman, The First Hunter live for Playstation in Concert, I figured they had to have given the choir the actual lyrics, and so they were out there somewhere.
The lyrics are a grammatical mess in the end, and I do know Latin :D So curiously not knowing Latin would be a good thing, as one wouldn't notice the grammatical mistakes and stuff.
I hope I can receive more official lyrics and texts, the sheets do circulate, but only in high musical circles whose members perform the songs as you remembered.

After you listened to all the tracks in bloodborne, would you say any of them are clearly non latin or would you say that from what you heard all of them that have lyrics use latin?
from what i know, there isnt any that use lyrics and have clear non latin lyrics, but there are some that are pretty much beyond recognition
So far, I have officially confirmed Latin lyrics in 3 songs. People claim there are about 15 in the whole game. I don't doubt they are correct. I never listened to all the tracks, but there are ones with clear Latin lyrics. The next one I'll publish got very clear Latin lyrics, lyrics provided by the composer Ryan Amon by the way.
Not necessarily directed at anyone in particular, but in order to understand the lyrics of bloodborne, you really need to understand not only English and Latin, but Japanese as well.
In Hail the Nightmare, there is a lot of talk of “argentum aquae” and unless you know Japanese the precise meaning of this remains unclear. But when you know that the word for mercury in Japanese is literally “water-silver,” it becomes much clearer.
But this leads to my second point, and that’s the fact there is a possibility that some of the lore components of the song have been changed/removed since the song was written. We got the lyrics courtesy of Antonius Tertius for two DLC songs, and the DLC songs are much more grounded in the actual lore of the game, in my opinion, because the DLC is just following what has been established in the main game already.
Mercury/quicksilver is one of the most mysterious and unexplained parts of Bloodborne, and it likely has to do with Oedon, equally enigmatic. Laurence was apparently going to be someone you knew who came to Yharnam with you in previous builds of the game, hunters used to be called ailing ones, etc. I would proceed with caution even if we ever do get lore texts for the other songs, especially the base game ones.
I got the official lyrics of Hail the Nightmare, but sadly mister Amon only has the lyrics and not the lore texts on which they were based.
I talked to Lokey about those lyrics, he knows the game and Japanese very well, but still those lyrics are so disjointed that we do need its lore text to fully understand the meaning. How am I supposed to translate this? "Exide, exide terra tua sa" Exide should be "exite", so "Depart (ye) from thy land..." and that "sa"??? It's just a syllable, a remnant of a word that was removed I think.
Perhaps the lyrics of the base game are not as elaborated as the ones from the dlc indeed.
@@AntoniusTertius That’s pretty interesting. Looking at the alpha version, it’s honestly astonishing how much changed between the alpha and the final product. I think it was mostly for the better, but I suppose lyrical music gets the short end of the stick because you can’t just go back and rewrite everything after it’s all been recorded.
Can you look into the lyrics of Hail the Nightmare (the song that plays in Yahar'gul)? It's obviously in Latin, but it doesn't translate very well, so it would be interesting to know what the intended translation was.
I already confirmed the official lyrics of that song, sadly the composer Ryan doesn't have the lore text on which those disjointed lyrics were created. I'm trying to obtain that text, the lore texts Sony used are as important as the lyrics themselves because they show what they wanted the lyrics to mean. I'll publish the official lyrics after I obtain the lore text used to create them. Hail the Nightmare's Latin is so disjointed...

@@jstrandquist Rest assured, I have officially confirmed that the Latin is messy. The ones from the Hail song is the most disjointed among the lyrics I confirmed so far. Laurence's official lyrics are the least messy.

Hey man, you should check the demon souls remake OSTs, specifically the Dirty Colossus one, literally sounds like they are saying "Sanguine Colossi" or something like that in the beginning, could just be my ears though.
A redditor told me that last year, he made me listen to a track which the choir seemed to be singing "anima". Did Sony produced the music of the new Demon's Souls too?
What I find most interesting is that I prefer the soundtrack from the original game (released for ps3), and in that game all vocals were just vowel sounds.
I may look into that after the Bloodborne research.
@@AntoniusTertius If you do, 1:48 holds the most material in the track, in the tower knight theme it funnily enough sounds like they are saying "Lesdothis" it's probably nothing but still worth a check even though if it is latin it is most likely just a big old nothing burger.
I hope your next lyrics will be about Gehrman's theme. I love that theme, and it really sounds sorrowful. There are some lyrics that fit into the Gehrman lore, but I think they are incorrect. I'm waiting for your next project.
If they follow the pattern of the other Bloodborne lyrics, they are grammatically incorrect and should contain pieces of lore, but very minimal.
I still have few official lyrics from Elden Ring I didn't publish, I intend to publish them, mainly because I am yet to confirm more official lyrics and texts from Bloodborne.
@@AntoniusTertius There are 2 examples for one sentence. One is "venator ah mi sumo vela mala" and the other one is "venator ah mi supra venata". IDK which one is grammarly correct or the real lyrics.

You also revealed that the Elden Ring’s songs have no concrete latin lyrics except few songs but I wonder the Darksouls 3’s songs go the same way.
Main composer of Darksouls 1 clearly told us his songs have no meaningful lyrics but has no informations about Darksouls 3.
There are many videos which show us unreliable latin lyrics of Darksouls 3’songs in my country.
And in fact we IGNOTI cannot discern whether it is truly latin words we are trying to listen from the seemingly meaningless vowels like “ah oh ah”.
Could you give us some informations whether these songs have latin lyrics or not if you would?

As I saw the comments on the Shermans song, they recognise that it is a fake and the uploader underlines its a joke on the comment.
But it is a problem you are not credited on the video of Song of lament.
I think the uploader won’t reply or just tell us that he translated on his own without any references though we accuse him. (In fact there is no evidence to prove)
Most of Japanese Eldenring players dont care if the lyrics are correct or not and are tired of the stuffs that they cannot read with their own language.

@@AntoniusTertius well they set a high bar, but i hope so. im a lore nut (its how i became interested in this whole "do the lyrics mean anything" discussion in the first place" so im curious what they do there, especially since r.r. Martin probably isn't involved in the dlc. Im hoping it answers some questions but knowing fromsoft we're probably going a whole different direction. Just hope its not a painting again :'D
