Made me remember when I was staying abroad, every time I returned from Malaysia, my luggage volume was like 10% clothing, and the remaining were foodies.
Logesh try lah meniaga kerepek pisang tu ataupun kerepek jenis lain, saya rasa lidah diorang mesti suka, mana lah tahu dapat sambutan orang sana. Btw Rachel nampak berisi lepas balik dari Malaysia 😊 makanan di Malaysia memang perfectly heaven 🇲🇾🩷
Out of everything, I think your Dad gave the most practical and useful gifts that kinda funny at first, but so very needed in everyday life. Kasih sayang seorang ayah 💕😍🥺
Those udang kering from Sabah we called it bubuk. U can make cucur bubuk. Do it just like cucur bilis but change the bilis to bubuk. As for sambal my recipe is cili padi, bubuk, belacan all tumbuk with lesung and perah limau. Eat with ulam. If u want to make nasi goreng also can. Just add on onions masa tumbuk dengan lesung. No need lime.
Hey Logesh, please make a video of Rachel and your American friends trying sambal nyet. That sambal is super spicy, and I want to see the American reaction to trying that sambal.
oh my hahaha i got that Khairul Aming's Sambal Nyet on his FIRST sale. Was one of the lucky ones because he sold out thousands of jars within just a few minutes it actually became a huge discussion among Malaysian businessmen and economists. I'd say it's delicious, but because of its high price and small quantity, it probably would be more of a luxury food rather than to be kept as a food staple. On the other hand, that Sambal Che' Nor I believe is popular among "orang bujang". My mom gave me a jar of Sambal Che' Nor when she visited me in college, and I shared it with my housemates, ate it with "nasi bujang" 🤤
The brown ( honey ) pot is usually used to store asam jawa . Sold in packets... absolutely necessary for making curries. Kumaar...was funny 😃 calling it a Urn to store ashes. I must say..some of the things are new ( to me at least ). I would definitely keep a lookout for them ( to try out). Thanks and can't wait for the next vlog.
What my late grandmother did with dried shrimp or ikan bilis is to fry them, then pound with pestle and mortar with raw shallots, garlic and lime until it becomes a dry paste or slightly powdery, super simple and I used to just eat it with rice or on top of an omelette
damnnn... u got so many glass products and they made it through. and all those meat products, so lucky to get through customs. your dads gifts are the best
Pasu/brown pot tu kalau di rumah mak sy, mak isi garam, serbuk kunyit, asam keping, asam jawa & rempah 4 sekawan (cengkih, kayu manis, bunga lawang, buah pelaga)..dan ada 2 buah brown pot yg besar, mak sy guna utk isi myk goreng ikan & myk goreng kuih (myk yg telah digunakan tetapi masih elok lagi, blh guna semula utk next gorengan)..ia bagus sbb natural krn di buat dr clay
Wow!! Thats a lot of stuff. I’m just amazed you managed to get it through US customs. The serunding are definitely worth bringing back. It is like a staple almost for any malaysian travelling and even for students studying overseas. Kumar, wah you really do love coffee. I can so relate on stocking up on coffee especially new beans you’ve not tried before. Glad you enjoyed your time back in Malaysia. Take care!!
I'd suggest kicap manis kipas udang, such a lifesaver, you can just eat it with a plate of freshly cooked rice and a fried egg/crunchy fried anchovies , you know you're safe Add in those sambals you have, heaven 😂
Hi Kumar family.. The dry shrimp from Sabah, we usually stir fry with a little bit oil, no need to put onion.. After you stir fry it til it become shinny brown, serve it on plate, put some lime and chopped chili, and mix it. Sedap makan dengan nasi panas2 dan lauk, sayur lain 😁
Omg Rach high 5!!! I’ve stocked up so many hand wipes too from Malaysia. I can’t find it in Canada too. So I brought so many. For gula melaka, next time get the Madam Yap gula melaka. It’s the best. You can get it from Jaya grocer or malacca itself. Sambal Nyet is a good buy. I also stocked up 6kgs of ikan bilis. Too bad we can’t bring in Serunding to Canada, otherwise that’s on my list. Yes definitely brought lots of Mcd chilli sauce and maggi chilli sauce. 😍 I also bought jelly strings, rose syrup which I made Bandung for my Canadian friends and they loved it. 💃💃 Bought Tau Sar phiah and kacang tumbuk from Penang trip for my Canadian friends. They loved it too. Koko jelly to share with kiddos. 🤣🤣🤣 Ohhh yeah and lots of Pandan Kaya and I made roti bakar for my Canadian mommas here, somehow they loved every Malaysian dish I made. 🫣🫣🫣. They are already planning for trip to Malaysia. Yayyy 🥰
Becareful when u fry the ikan keropok. Its smelly because its salted fermented fish. "ikan masin" your whole house will smell like the fish😅. But its a very tasty n crunchy. Love your content. P/s your pic for the serunding is ayam goreng berempah. 😂
What I always like to bring back are: a refill packet of sos cili Maggi, Habhal kicap, F&N sirap ros, serbuk belacan, Babas spice, Kickapoo, Kek pandan chiffon, bahulu, Zip chcocolate bars. And also the frozen packets of satay & satay sauce from Hj Samuri, and some roti canai takeout from the restaurant at KLIA across from the checkin area.
When my bro came back from america from studies he usually bring back sambal belacan, gula melaka(for cendol and other recipe) Maggie stock cubes, nescafe, milo, rojak paste and more others.... Lol....
I used to bring (& recommend to friends): - fresh roti canai kosong (just the roti only, no sauce) to put straight into freezer - hokkien mee, the black sauce version (by doing it as a special order - cook without any meat or seafood, but be very generous with the lard oil), again for the freezer - my mum's special receipe chocolate cake - starionery eg pens, paper, etc Logan: do you drink the Malaysian 3-in-1 coffee, or just black?
Few years ago my bro when to America to study... He bring back gula melaka then make cendol at his apartment.... Lol... He's friends love it... Also brought rojak sauce, keropok lekor and other things
Aiyahh! For those ikan bilis kopek / peeled anchovies (really nice when they're fried really crispy) and ikan keropok / dried preserved fishes sliced in 1/2 really thin so it becomes crispy when fried (can't remember the name of the fish), you can find them in the Peninsula. As for Sambal Garing Che' Nor, what you got there is the standard variety. There's the extra spicy variety and there's also one with crunchy cubes of fried tempeh in the dried sambal. I usually buy the extra spicy and the sambal tempeh variants by the boxes straight from the distributor. Heh heh. Anyway, whichever one you prefer, they really go nicely with hot rice porridge + all the usual condiments of course like crispy fried anchovies, roasted peanuts, shredded lobak masin, soy sauce, kangkung belacan (stir-fried water spinach with shrimp paste), etc. Or just some freshly cooked rice, vege/chicken/beef tomyam, etc. will do nicely as well. I'm salivating already. Sorry guys... heh heh heh.
Hi Kumar Fams.... FYI for the dry shrimps that dry one is hard to become belacan already since it been process with hot salt water... if you want to make belacan it must be fresh

Sambal nyet is a hit because, it taste like real cooked sambal. Put it on hot white rice, its a meal. Hey your fired protein of choice. Heck fried egg with runny egg yolk and sweet soy sauce. You gonna have to eat double coz so good. A lot fo other sambal are mostly sambal goreng or dried sambal/chili paste. Its like sambal with serunding consistency. It lack that home cooked sambal taste. Some are just like chilli oils. Again, not sambal. People have difficulty getting the balanve right because, wet/oily sambals tend to spoils really fast.
