      That's what I do Tom. I'm optimistic and when that doesn't work, I have a piece of paper off camera to write the dimensions down. LOL. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

      At the time of making this video William, I never really needed this tool but it was something that I thought would help others. Now, as I get older I find that I am reaching for this tool more often than not. We all need a little help sometimes. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for the kind words.

    I hear ya Kenny! I made a pattern for my DW788 to cut out next spring.The bottom knob is the hardest for me. I too have Mr Arthro, but in my hands and feet. I also get my old bones cracked every 5 weeks so I can stand up straight and hips adjusted so I can walk in a straight line. No sense walking like a drunk lol! Sometimes I can stand to cut, sometimes I have to sit. I have been told that 70 is just a number. LOL! Well tell my body that lol! Anything at all that we can do to help ourselves to still have a life, we should. Always try to stay active as you get older. It does help! A great tip! Enjoyed! Take care!

    Great idea, Kenny, I'll have to make one. Also, Pegas make a replacement set of blade chuck heads that are much lighter than standard (to reduce vibration) and these take much less force to tighten and loosen than the standard chucks.

      I hope it is able to help you John. Just remember, as I stated in the video, be careful applying too much torque to the blade retaining bolts. It just requires a little tweak when using a blade removal tool. Good luck on your project and thanks for tuning in.

  • @allannielsen4752
    @allannielsen4752 Рік тому

    Love it, great video. As I totally agree with EVERYTHING you said I feel you left out one important point though you got close to it right at the end, you probably won't strip the thread you are more likely going to splay the two sides of the blade holder apart making it harder for the screw to hold the blades. I had this issue over many months of over torqueing the knobs, and had to replace the heads with Pegus ones (never looked back and don't use the tool anymore either). Applying the extra torque on the screw should be discouraged. But like I said, loved the video and anything that keeps us scrolling longer is only a good thing.

Before I retired we modified a lot of our equipment at work to make it more ergonomic and to reduce potential accidents. We can always look at the tasks we perform to see if there's an easier or safer way to do them. Thanks for bringing this to everyones attention. Take care and stay safe.

    Great video Ken! I find myself looking for some type of “mechanical advantage” more and more. I firmly believe that manufactures try to make knobs etc. smaller and smaller 🥴🤠

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Рік тому

      If they do try for that Randy, they are trying to eliminate vibration and keep the balance of the arms intact. Unfortunately, for those with arthritis, those smaller knobs can be a serious issue. Thanks for tuning in.

    Great video, thanks. Things like these really help. I have a question. When you made the Halloween decoration, you used a #4 spiral blade. What was the teeth per inch on the blade?

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Рік тому +1

      The spiral blades are categorized a little differently when it comes to tpi Scott. Because there are teeth on all sides of the blade, the tpi usually runs higher which can be confusing for some. The technical spec of tpi on those blades is 36tpi. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

    Great idea as I am on final approach to 70 and my grip is getting a bit weak! I’ve been wondering for quite some time, is your scroll saw tilted toward you?

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Рік тому +1

      My old saw (DW788) was tilted toward me but the Excalibur is not. The table is level. There are definitely benefits though to having the table tilted toward the user. One of the main benefits is lessening neck strain as you watch what you are doing on the saw. Thanks for tuning in Bob.

    Thanks for the Video Ken, Random question. would you happen to the thread size of the thumb screw. I have a older scroll and looking for a replacement. Thanks in advance.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Рік тому +1

      Every saw manufacturer is different Paul. They all have their own specific designs and specifications so I honestly would have no idea what the thread count would be. That being said, I did have a DW788 once that stripped out the top blade retainer and I just used a tap to cut new threads in whatever thread count I had available. So even if you aren't able to get the proper thread count, there are still options. I hope this helps a little. Thanks for tuning in.

    Hi Ken, I bought a used Excalibulur 21" scroll saw a week ago and used it for the first time today. The problem I’m having and hoping u can shine some night on,the blades do not seam long enough to fit in both clamps of the scroll saw. Is there some adjust I can do so the clamps hold on more of the blade? And what holds onto the blade? The head on the tightening screw? Thanks for the help with the tubes for the blades, I’ll drive to Waterloo and pick some up.

    • @acutabove_woodworkings
      @acutabove_woodworkings  Рік тому +1

      The blades that you are using should be 5" long Brian. That would be a standard for scroll saw blades. If they are in fact 5" long, then you arm adjustment knob may have been turned at some point to put the arms out of parallel and make the gap too large for the blade. At the back of the saw, right on the top, is a large knob. This knob adjusts the top arm either up or down. You may need to adjust that knob until your blades are able to fit in the blade retainer. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in and good luck with your scrolling.
