Bob Hope on Don Lane Show with Bert Newton

- Phillip Brady was in Newton's Don Lane Show dressing-room with Bob Hope in 1973 (not correct year), watching Newton and Lane on the monitor as Hope waited to go on. Brady recalls: "Bob Hope said to me: 'Bert's funnier than I am. I've got a team of 20 gag writers but he does it off the cuff.'" Brady has no doubt Hope meant it.

It is now 2024, and after watching this clip, this certainly brings back memories of some wonderful and great actors /comedians of the Hollywood era. I am in my 60's.
The first time I’ve seen Bob Hope talk without a script. He’s great. So easy to talk to. I thought I’d seen all the Don Lane shows but not that one. All three greats gone. We going to miss you Bert. RIP. Xx
Too bad we can't have great anything anymore 'Bob Hope John Wayne president Trump
We all have a script darling, even if it's only made up 2 seconds ago. You didn't live in the time of Bob Hope, did you
Bob hope was on a lot of talk shows and they were all good he said what he wanted and he was fast coming up with jokes 🎤
what an era. you would swear we are on anothe rplanet at this point. RIP all these guys.
And Phyllis Diller
Those were the times when a celebrity was truly a celebrity. Love Bob Hope and all those who entertained us for many decades belonging to that era. RIP all and many thanks.
this is the best interview with Bob Hope ever
ONLY WISH WE HAD THESE DAYS BACK
TOP NOTCH TALENT.MISS THEM ALL 8-((
I raised a glass for Bert, and my Dad, who also died last month. Two legends in my life. As a young child, Dad would let me stay up to watch Bert on the Don Lane show. We LOVED to laugh. Thanks for the Memories Bert xx❤🇦🇺
Well said, and condolences for your loss
A really wonderful presentation; like nothing I'd ever seen before! Maximum entertainment and fabulous hosting. Thank you so much for this golden memory!
Love how Bob takes in the standing ovation...before he even sits down.
Whoever put this up thank you it was lovely too watch ❤
The all time late greats! Thanks for the memories!!!
I wish I saw Bob live. He was a genuinely funny man. Don and Bert good here with Bert knowing his stuff.
Don Lane, Bob Hope, and of course our Bert Newton.
This has to be the best ever produced on Melbourne television.
Always in our hearts.
From what I heard' the pedophilia was rampant back then..🖕 I'm disillusioned about the whole thing
@@ripme6616 not Bob Hope....he was too busy chasing skirts!
Bert Newton who recently left this world, was a great natural entertainer. He had a super persona which drew everyone to him. As new immigrants we watched the Don Lane show twice a week which ran from 1975 - 1983. This show, above all else, was one filled with the very competent flair of Don Lane, but complemented hugely by Bert Newton. In this clip, Bert is a complete and confident ambassador for Australia. He does not in any way fawn before Bob Hope who was a legend in his own right. Every Australian should follow his example in being people from a great land down under. Rest on Peace Bert.
Thank you . As some do knock us Aussies. We are a very placed people if left alone .🥰👍🇦🇺

Bert, made that show
Bob Hope, LEGEND
Bob looked genuinely amazed when he came back, at Bert's request. One of the giants. Rip great man.
Oh! For the memories! A time when people had a life...
What a great show. Thank you
Can't think of a better near hour of tonight show tv at any time anywhere over the past 50 years.
I saw Bob Hope at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, a legendary act!
Thanks this.I was working at Nine
when he visited. Huge thrill Did great shows at the Vic Arts Centre
Wow! Hearing Bert slip in a few jokes that absolutely kept up with one of the wittiest guys in the world! You can see Bob was totally aware of it.
Fantastic clip of the good old days in the 70's. Totally and thoroughly enjoyed this nice long interview with such a legend - Bob Hope - plus of course Don and Bert.
What a treat and a barrel of laughs the audience and peaple on tv who saw it were lucky now you’ve got rubbish on tv and they call themselves celebrities too
I love Bob Hope, he taught me how to be a smartarse
This was a great show , great interview s and talented performers musicians and gentle men Thank you God bless you 🇦🇺♥️🙏❤️💖🌹
You LL have lots of beautiful memories ,as I was at secondary school loved being allowed to watch the don Lane show it was brilliant beautiful ❤️🙏
I can see why Florence Henderson made the comment that Bert Newton was an Australian version of Bob Hope. Bob & Bert seemed to have the same quick wit & were both loved by many. Only sorry Bert hadn't lived to 100 like Bob. Bert will be sadly missed by many & his funeral entourage will be huge. RIP to all these legends Don, Bert & Bob. There will never be stars like this again.
@johnnytheprick Have you had your head in the sand?
@johnnytheprick if I had a name like yours I wouldn’t show my face😂
@johnnytheprick Gorgeous 😂
@johnnytheprick Please don't apologize for your depravity. I think you like to flaunt it. I'm sure there's someone out there who might like your videos. Lololololololol
@johnnytheprick Maybe it's time to invest in some makeup and light bulbs. You may be thrilled with the result. Didn't mean to be rude.😊lolololololololololol

This is from 1983.Bob Hope was 80 years old here.
God I was only 13 then. Loved Bob Hope. Legend.
I grew up in a town close to Laurieton NSW... The older folk there, still fondly remember Bob and co, "dropping in" expectantly.
been there for holidays and never heard that story before
@@donbon4204 Mitch Mckay wrote a book you can buy about it.
The Don Lane Show was the Best , Bob Hope is a Legend
Love how they take the piss out of each other and no one gets offended.not like now!!!!
Nah. We do it all the time.
You should see a different crowd.
RIP BERT
Loved Don Lane. Great show.
That was great.
Usually Bob Hope would just respond in interviews with "Ain't that something" or "Can you believe that". Here he actually goes beyond.
Or “Isn’t that wild?”
Oh I remember this one loved the Don Lane show and Dear Bert Newton bitter sweet as they have now left for that big stage in Heaven Yes Thanks For The Memories RIP guys xxx
Love Bob Hope, Don Lane and Bert Newton.
Don lane is be very good. I really liked him
This has taken me back over 40 years to when I was a teenager watching this in my lounge room in Melbourne. Magnificent!
That was so good 👍
The wonderful and fantastic bob hope and phylis dillet we will never see their like.again
What a love fest for Bob Hope down in Australia!
I loved Bop in the movies. Bop worked hard in the industry. We will all miss Bop.
All without cue cards. Bob Hope was great at unfiltered repartee. Thanks for the video post.
It is so sad to watch these programs because they have all gone now. They entertained us like no other. All the entertainers have all gone now. I loved them all . Now Bert has gone. These were good programs. Never to see again except on u tube Thankyou. Goodbye dear entertainers. RIP.
Love Bob Hope ,Phillis And Bert
Loved Phyllis Diller😂😂
Thanks for uploading.
It was great to see Bob Hope back in Australia again!
Thanks for posting!
Bert was so much like Bob Hope .
Hope is wonderful...what a natural..
Great stuff!! Thanks.
Bob Hope, what a legend. Funny story, Bob Hope said that his name was actually Lesley Hope, or Les Hope. He changed it because everybody used to call him Hopeless.😂. The Don Lane Show was so much fun. Don and Bert were so great together. Shows like that are gone forever. RIP Bob, Don and Bert.❤️
if you have got to force yourself to laugh, please don't Don. Bob Hope can see right through you.
What an absolute legend and a wonderful man. RIP Mr Hope
Sorry to be offtopic but does anybody know a tool to log back into an instagram account??

See if you can find the PDF THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES by a Brice Tylor not her real name. She names names in it of who are pedophiles, one being Bob Hope. There is a YT channel DALE H who has a couple of videos out telling of high profile pedos here. Look them up please. Several Australian Prime Ministers are mentioned too.
wonderful bob this is your life...haha, don and bert know their stuff great show and shows
Rest in peace.
Buy I will miss Bert Newton the most, love you Patty McGrath,
a champion of the blue-rinse set
3 Greats Gone! Memories in our hearts.
I miss these variety shows from yesteryear. TV nowadays suck!
love island, the block, the project etc its getting worse
@@donbon4204 I'm seriously thinking of not watching TV or UA-cam for a while. I can't understand the utter crap that's taking over. Ffs the younger generation crying about climate change are the same people who are the first generation of the whole world who had air-conditioned school rooms for all of their life! And they are blaming our generation for global warming? 🤥
TV was invented for entertainment, now everyone on it just cries.
I never knew the legendary Bob hope performed on stage in Australia! ??
Indeed .He was in Australia on numerous occasions....starting in the 1940s
One great man and love the USA
It was awkward to start, almost painful to watch but did get better to the point he appeared to be enjoying it. He was a great sport to do this and spend so long.
Thanks for this. But why put '73 if its the wrong year. What year is this, anyone?
It's called a quote, with notation.
The interaction between Hope & Phillis Diller would be frowned upon these days.
A yank interviewing a Pom in Australia! Love to USA, UK, AUS
AUKUS Yellow Submarine
She’s a great sport. Miss Bob Hope.
This show went to air in 1984
Not possible, show finished on 1983.
It was 1983, Hope's last working tour of Australia. Was here in July and played shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Queensland.
@@libertyordeaf That sounds right because Lane says during the show that he'd been working with Newton for 8-1/2 years (they started working together in 1975). Also, Hope makes a joke during the show about his buddy Ronald Reagan being President (Reagan became US President in 1981).
Luv donn
What's the song called
3 girls together...what a laugh !
Do you have the Don's Wheel segment to this show?
Most likley, why?
@@reestv could you upload it please
Phyllis is beautiful.
@@reestv
Yer they don’t do the wheel anymore.
That was a good segment.
great stuff have you got any more don Lane
what a major loss to the world both Bob and Don, great entertainment.
"1952". "Over 30 years ago". That would make this sometime in the '80s.
The show ended in 1983, so there's your answer.
@@whatwouldiknow1759 must have been towards the end of the run them.
This had to be 1983, not 1973. They talked about Reagan running for reelection.
America had Bob hope: today with Biden it has No hope
As you have shown, America is lacking in comedians, too. Go eat an orange sausage.
@@brianoneill7186 And I thought that Biden was the slapstick act
@@Baskerville22 And Trump was hopeless😂😂😂
got to 100 !
Probably in 1979 when he was in Perth as well to host the Miss Universe ( or World maybe) in their 150th yr celebration.
All these people were real comedians you could have a real laugh at them and with them not like today where if you say the wrong thing you get sued by the political correct people
Bert saved this
What year was this?
What year was this ????
Bob hope when did he die
Very sad😱😭😭😭😭😭😭 moment💯🦘🇦🇺🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟📺📺📺📺📺📺📺🎥🎥🎥🎥🎬🎬🎬📽📽📽🦘🇦🇺
Jane Scali....wow....
This is circa 1977?
1983 the year this show was sadly axed.

Everyone's dead!😥
Well it was nearly 40 year's ago & all we over 40 then. Makes sense.
Yo
Wow, all 3 are dead now
Bert is 34 here looks like his 44.
He was in his 40s.
All dead !
Too bad Isaac Newton wasn't available.
