Slept outside with my best friend to buy tickets to there Adelaide concert. 40plus years later they still bring a smile to my face and many memories associated with many of their songs.
You're so lucky to have seen them in concert .. What treasured memories .. I live in Australia, but wasn't really a concert-goer back then .. Need a time machine to go back and change that !

Feels like yesterday. What a super group. Fernando was absolutely huge in Australia and yet some of their greatest tunes were still to come. I will never forget the night an ABBA special was aired on Australian tv that premiered their new single Money, Money, Money. I recorded it from the television onto a cassette tape (remember those :) ). I must have gone to bed that night and played it a thousand times. What memories!
All 4 members of the group are musical geniuses & pit together form the best pop group of all time & there have been some excellent groups over the years but ABBA are on another level 😀

@@CovidConQuitTheCensorship i think they would have but they said themselves they didn't enjoy touring; they loved performing but touring when you have little kids at home was hard on the family. I get it! They are magical in the studio but when Bjorn was talking about Australia it was with GENUINE affection because they were not as respected in their own time kinda like the critics who hated Led Zeppelin but NOW...LOL if they had stayed a band in the 80s they would have sold out ANY stadium. Critics be damned.At least the AUSTRALIAN fans gave them that real affection, and they appreciated it (well it freaked out Agnetha as she in 1 interview. ) I was too young to go to gigs then..😔

Wish ABBA was as popular in the US. I was born in 69, almost missed the 60's by 3 days. Anyways, there was so many kinds of music starting during around that time. Then on this show it says they are so popular. In 2023 in grocery stores still play Dancing Queen but the only other song I hear by ABBA is Mamma Mia

More people watched that ABBA special than watched the moon landing. Also, 'Fernando' stayed #1 for 14 consecutive weeks. They had tons of songs on the charts at the same time. Today ABBA still is extremely popular not just in Australia, but all over the world. ABBA seems to have amazing staying power.

Don Lane was a very famous American man in Australia in the 1970’s, he had a long running show on TV and was much loved. Sadly he passed away in Sydney some years ago suffering from Alzheimer’s. Good times, much missed. This is very funny, loved it. Back when people had character and a sense of humour.

The interview was done in 1976 when I was 6th grade...but I never be bored to re-play this song SOS as well as other ABBA songs...until now. This was a very successful weekly Australian tv program. I think Australia was the first country that fully embraced their music out of Sweden. They toured AUstralia for several months and filmed their Australian tour directed by the then relatively unknown Swedish director Lasse Hollstrom. This film became the basis of many of their music videos for the songs and the music video was kicked off world wide.
In Sweden that´s the general opinion too: Australia opened the door for ABBA. Maybe because that´s what ABBA says themselves. In Sweden they were quite looked down upon by the cultural elite; embraced by the people though. And then the UK of course... Just heard an interview with they guy responsable for the tour; they gave 6 sold-out concerts at Wembley; he was disappointed since they could have sold out twenty... In the middle of the punk area; the boys from Six Pistols and the Clash were backstage...

On Fernando you can hear the rare Agnetha lower harmonies on Frida's main vocal. They always could blend great, the harmonic content of each fit with the other.

"...And West Germany". It's easy to forget how much has changed over the years. Sometimes the past is, quite literally, a different country. Back then I barely noticed Abba (well, ok, I was 13, so I /definitely/ noticed Agnetha and Frida!) But now, as I watch over my mother's decline into the final stages of dementia, I pick up my guitar and play SOS almost every day. The lyrics are all too appropriate, and it's an incredibly cathartic song to belt out! She taps her foot, I vent some frustrations. Thanks for uploading. Such interviews are increasingly fascinating as we approach the release of the new album. There's nothing like getting older to make you think about the past... which is daft really, because the less time you have left, the more you should think about today! But thinking about today, in such an uncertain world with such a complicated and uncertain future, can be a bit stressful. Yet Benny's comment about them being very popular in West Germany as well as Australia reminds us that back then the shadow we lived under was nuclear war with the USSR. It's in the nature of humanity to find something to worry about... sometimes because of sabre toothed tigers, sometimes only because of suspicion and misunderstanding, and sometimes because we accidentally hurt ourselves and the ecosystem. But music crosses borders effortlessly, connecting us. It also distracts us from our cares for a while, giving us a boost when we're down and need a bit of inspiration. Here's to inspiration. I am completely stunned that today 2021 sounds just as good or even better than then. The only superlative I can think of is to compare with Messi to get to the same level. I'm glad I've experienced both. I still have all their music left at home in my boxes of cassettes and LP. I love their clothes.

I hated Fernando because it stayed at number 1 for too long, boring song. It also kept jpy's "I hate the music" from reaching number 1. Little bit of trivia LOL
Boring? High level of musicality and vocal quality. It was not a sing-songy pop song, but a more refined classically stylistic song.
It was more important internationally that Dancing Queen.

simple things like making eye contact with the audience and making everybody feel like they were they're best friends made them so cool something modern entertainers don't seem to understand

"...And West Germany". It's easy to forget how much has changed over the years. Sometimes the past is, quite literally, a different country. Back then I barely noticed Abba (well, ok, I was 13, so I /definitely/ noticed Agnetha and Frida!) But now, as I watch over my mother's decline into the final stages of dementia, I pick up my guitar and play SOS almost every day. The lyrics are all too appropriate, and it's an incredibly cathartic song to belt out! She taps her foot, I vent some frustrations.
Thanks for uploading. Such interviews are increasingly fascinating as we approach the release of the new album. There's nothing like getting older to make you think about the past... which is daft really, because the less time you have left, the more you should think about today! But thinking about today, in such an uncertain world with such a complicated and uncertain future, can be a bit stressful.
Yet Benny's comment about them being very popular in West Germany as well as Australia reminds us that back then the shadow we lived under was nuclear war with the USSR. It's in the nature of humanity to find something to worry about... sometimes because of sabre toothed tigers, sometimes only because of suspicion and misunderstanding, and sometimes because we accidentally hurt ourselves and the ecosystem.
But music crosses borders effortlessly, connecting us. It also distracts us from our cares for a while, giving us a boost when we're down and need a bit of inspiration.
Here's to inspiration. Here's to Abba! :-)

I am completely stunned that today 2021 sounds just as good or even better than then. The only superlative I can think of is to compare with Messi to get to the same level. I'm glad I've experienced both. I still have all their music left at home in my boxes of cassettes and LP. I love their clothes.
