  • Does gear really matter in photography? You bet! Good gear matters significantly in photography because it directly influences the quality and versatility of the images captured. High-quality cameras, lenses, and accessories enable photographers to achieve sharper details, better colors, and improved overall image clarity. Additionally, superior gear often provides more advanced features and settings, allowing photographers to creatively explore various techniques and styles. Furthermore, reliable equipment contributes to consistency and reliability, crucial aspects for both amateurs and professionals alike. While skill and creativity are paramount in photography, having the right gear enhances the potential to translate vision into stunning visual narratives.

Yes agree that it is a two way street but still I believe that knowing your gear as a photographer and specifically its limitations and working around them is more important than. You can capture a story with old gear and with new tech gear, the outcome maybe different but not always better. You can have the best gear but if you don’t know how to use it, you will still just take a mediocre photo or video. Experience trumps gear in my opinion, not that gear doesn’t matter, just not to a point that many people think. GAS is a real thing and i am a victim of it just like anyone but i find the more i restrict my self with gear the more i grow creatively. And as for Megapixels i think from 2 to 16 mp was a bigger jump then from 16 to 40 for the use case of 95% of today’s images

I agree - 2 to 16 is a bigger jump than 16 to 40. Do I want a 40 mb camera Of course. Do I need it? No. Old gear is great until you out grow it. Because if you want to try something that your gear it's not capable of, then it's time for an upgrade. In my opinion and experience, experience trumps the gear you already have. It helped you get the experience that you needed, but now if you want to unlock a new level of experience, you need something better.
That's how I evolved as a photographer. Thanks for the comment! Cheers! :)
