Photographing Italy and Switzerland in One Day!
Photography takes me to different destinations with amazing views and experiences. Sometimes I can photograph 2 or 3 destinations in a single day. This is the case of Europe where I had the chance to shoot 2 beautiful subjects in one day : Lake Como and Lugano in Switzerland.
I started at Vezio Castle at Lake Como and finished the day in beautiful Switzerland in Lugano.

Photographing a Dreamy Seascape at Sunset
Переглядів 10821 день тому
Photographing seascapes involves capturing the beauty and drama of the ocean and its surroundings. Key elements include timing, composition, and lighting. The golden hours of sunrise and sunset provide soft, warm light, enhancing the colors and textures of the landscape. Long exposure techniques can create a dreamy, smooth water effect, while fast shutter speeds freeze the motion of crashing wa...
Blue Hour Long Exposure Photography of a Bridge
Переглядів 13028 днів тому
In this video my subject was a beautifully lit bridge that I go over every time I go plane spotting at the airport. The lights of the bridge reflect nicely in the river below and I think there are some nice photos to be had from this location. Because I needed the lights of the bridge to be on, I had to wait for blue hour which is the period of time right after sunset and before total darkness....

Shoot Landscapes With a Telephoto Lens
Переглядів 379Місяць тому
Using a telephoto lens for landscape photography can yield striking results by compressing the scene and emphasizing distant elements. Unlike wide-angle lenses, which capture expansive views, telephoto lenses (typically 70mm and above) bring distant subjects closer, creating a sense of depth and layering in the image. This technique is ideal for highlighting specific features like mountain peak...
What to Photograph When Plan 'A' Doesn't Work Out?
Переглядів 176Місяць тому
No matter how much we plan, sometimes plan A just goes out the window. What do you do in that case? In this video I was planning to shoot some long exposures of some waves washing over some logs on the beach. The problem was it was low tide. Although I knew it was low tide, I didn't think the water would be so far out. So I had two choices: improvise or go home. My advice for you is never go ho...
Take Good Photos At a Mediocre Location!
Переглядів 4832 місяці тому
What do you shoot when there's no interesting background? Not all landscape photography locations are created equal. Yes, we have the freedom to choose our location so might as well choose an epic one, but every now and then we have to shoot a mediocre location as well. In that case, I encourage you to go smaller. Look for interesting trees, beaches, rocks, plants and so on to photograph. Going...
Photographing Beautiful Classic Cars!
Переглядів 882 місяці тому
Photographing beautiful classic cars is one of the things I really enjoy photographing. In a previous vlog I photographed a 1978 Porsche 924 at sunset. This time my friend Juan and I went to a classic cars show here in Vancouver to admire and photograph some cars of the past. Photographing cars at car shows it's not something I prefer because there are too many distractions. Other cars, people ...
Shoot Beautiful Forest Portraits Using Flash.

If you want to shoot beautiful forest portraits using a flash, this is the video for you. This video is a continuation of a video from a shoot I did a couple of weeks prior, where I photographed Marilyn in the forest. This time we play around with props and with a flash, to make the portraits pop. For props we used a Peruvian poncho and a red lantern. For the speedlight I used a Nikon SB 700 wi...

CLASSIC Car Photography. 1978 Porsche 924!

Being around this 1978 Porsche 924, feels like stepping into a time capsule of automotive history. Its sleek silhouette, adorned with the classic green paint, beckons me to capture its essence through my lens. As I frame the shot, I'm struck by the timeless design-the pop-up headlights, the smooth curves, and the unmistakable Porsche emblem. For this shoot I chose two locations. One more urban a...

@@N0rdman The point is you can use a telephoto lens to shoot landscapes.

    • @N0rdman

@@adriancaleanu For sure, most wide angle landscape photography is quite "empty" as most haven't learned to incorporate the foreground to create depth, you only see some distant shapes very remotely that doesn't create an interesting image. The image just comes across as flat, even dull. Every time you are struck by awe by the immense landscape most reach for a wide angle to try and capture it all, what you envision in your head as a super wide canvas but actually with your own eyes view in small portions one at the time, that your brain ties together to create the vastness you remember filling the entire horizon. But maybe if you could make a print that covers a whole facade or at least a wall it would make sense. Otherwise that image would become more interesting if you took a little portion of it, as you can with a telephoto lens.

Thanks a lot! When the location is photogenic, is much easier to shoot a lot of good photos. You don't have to work that hard to find good compositions. As you saw in the video, there was a lot of drama all around haha. Lake reflections, sunset, those awesome clouds and the moody fog in the end. A lot of things to photograph. And between these photos, you just talk to the camera and say what you have to say - about the location, what's the plan for the shoot, things that you find interesting at that particular location. It's like having a conversation with someone but that someone is the camera. I think I had in total about 2 h to shoot the photos and the video before total darkness. It's enough time to get photos and enough footage for a 15 min video.

Yes agree that it is a two way street but still I believe that knowing your gear as a photographer and specifically its limitations and working around them is more important than. You can capture a story with old gear and with new tech gear, the outcome maybe different but not always better. You can have the best gear but if you don’t know how to use it, you will still just take a mediocre photo or video. Experience trumps gear in my opinion, not that gear doesn’t matter, just not to a point that many people think. GAS is a real thing and i am a victim of it just like anyone but i find the more i restrict my self with gear the more i grow creatively. And as for Megapixels i think from 2 to 16 mp was a bigger jump then from 16 to 40 for the use case of 95% of today’s images

    • @adriancaleanu
      @adriancaleanu 4 місяці тому

I agree - 2 to 16 is a bigger jump than 16 to 40. Do I want a 40 mb camera Of course. Do I need it? No. Old gear is great until you out grow it. Because if you want to try something that your gear it's not capable of, then it's time for an upgrade. In my opinion and experience, experience trumps the gear you already have. It helped you get the experience that you needed, but now if you want to unlock a new level of experience, you need something better. That's how I evolved as a photographer. Thanks for the comment! Cheers! :)
