Bonnie and Clyde are a mated pair of Great Horned owls. They couldn't manage to find a home of their own, so they hijacked Willie and Marie's, the American Bald Eagles, home.

Farmer Derek lives and works on the Klingenberg Family farm and ranch. He works with his Dad and two brothers. They raise Corn, Soybeans, Wheat, Cattle, and Cats. They background all the cattle and then graze them in the Flint Hills and they end up at the feedyards in Western Kansas.
The farm was started in the mid 30's by his grandpa who immigrated from West Prussia in 1923 when he was 9.

Great horned owls don't build their own nests - they usually take over abandoned nests other birds are no longer using, but this is pretty aggressive.
not really, GHO usually lay eggs at different times then other raptors and when they're looking for a nest they usually come across an abandoned one, However, if the nest they want is occupied they will relentlessly attempt drive the tenants away, because time is of the essence.
I never saw an owl defend her egg before. That was interesting to see. 💖

Wow. There is an eagle nest owned by Harriet and M15. For many weeks this breeding season great horned owls have brutally attacked the poor eagles for their nest. The eagles have won the battle and now raising 2 eaglets that are now three weeks old. Poor M15 still unfortunately gets attacked every now and then but it doesn't scare him off. Those owls though are powerful and has no fear and so persistent.
Those owls at SWFL are an absolute nuisance and seem to do that to Harriet and M every season. I remember last season one of the eaglets, who was older and roosting on a branch, even got knocked off by an owl. They just strike them at the dead of night when they’re sleeping all the time, I feel so bad 😭

Thank you for putting this together! My husband and I are home sick with covid and we were flipping through live bald eagle nest feeds and stumbled upon the KC nest before it was labeled “hijacked by owls”. I clicked on it expecting a majestic bald eagle and instead I bursted out laughing at Bonnie’s grumpy little owl face sitting in that huge nest. Definitely has made quarantine better!

@@nolarice8769 this is totally just a joke but hey...owls are literally the most majestic and beautiful bird in the world...those eyes just do something no other animal in the sky can do...it's a legendary animal...now the bald eagles are patriotic, but not legendary, not wise and majestic...I guess some ppl might think they are but to me, owls are the only bird like that...there's just something different about them vs any other bird...so what I'm saying is, they're the best! So they get the nest 😅😅😅 it's not fair that the bald eagles lost their nest :( but, if 2 other bald eagles would've done that, no one would be saying anything...except "awhhh that's just nature"...lol I ranted Alil but I just love owls❤

This an incredible video of an owl defending the nest against a bald eagle. The eagle has the upper hand in the daytime but the owls rule the night. If Marie had truly wanted her nest there would have been owl feathers everywhere. Many times eagles will build more than one nest in their territory. Fantastic and rare footage of this event! Yeah, she didn't want that nest (eagle tries like 6 times) but yeah she didn't want it, lol
The only thing that eagle didn't want was the SMOKE from that owl.
That just isn't true. Once the owl is on that nest it has the advantage. If the eagle could catch the owl out in the open then it would be able to kill the owl but Great Horned Owls will always have the advantage in the forest. Great Horned Owls are very aggressive and they're shorter wings give them an advantage in cover. Also even if the eagles do manage to get back on the nest, as soon as darkness falls the owls will comeback with can of whoop ass. No eagle is getting that nest back.
@@sevenrats We have to agree to disagree here since we are not eagles or owls. It has been said that owls do not make their own nests because their incredible night vision capability robs them of brain capacity to take on nest building. Eagles lack night vision and are sitting ducks at night. In the day, however, their cognitive abilities give them the upper hand. They would not give the owl a chance to come back at night.
Snowy Owls make their nests directly on the arctic tundra and hunt during the daytime since the sun doesn't set below the horizon for 41 weeks. They are both excellent diurnal and nocturnal hunters.

Near where I am, Red Tailed Hawks had to build a new nest a few trees away from their old one --- I think a Great Horned Owl may have taken over the hawks' old nest. Birds of Prey are my favorite to watch.

Snowy Owls build nests out of dead lemmings. Barn owls are known to dig their own nesting burrows in river banks and cliffs. You’re overstating it that owls never build there own nests. Some do.

@@tudibug8260 Why should it make you angry? It’s clearly a behaviour that works for many species of owl. Given that there are still other species of large bird and small mammal around for them to steal from, there’s no evidence that they are hastening the extinction of other species.

Bald eagles frequently have more than one next within their territories. There's a pair not to far from where I live that have three within about a half mile.

Owls have the best night vision so it was pretty easy to ambush that Eagles nest..... but for that Owl to make that nest her own & refuse to move an inch while those Eagles did their harassing fly by routine is pretty gutsy & impressive.... how long did that go on for I wonder?

Golden eagles would not have any better advantage. The owls are better in the trees and once night falls they'll just drive the eagles off. The eagles are essentially blind at night.

Proof that it's not the size of the dog in the fight - it's the size of fight in the dog. That eagle outweighs the owl 3 to 1 and could make mincemeat of her, but the bluff of the owl keeps the eagle from knowing that.
Owls are stronger then eagles there talons are as strong as golden eagles and they are far more aggressive then any eagle only bird that comes close to beating Owls is a murder of crows numbers always win

Great Horned Owls are not afraid of eagles. They are well known for taking over eagle and hawk nests .
Great horned owls are extremely powerful and aggressive birds and are the only avian predators of porcupines . Their grip is very simlar to that of the bald eagle .

I know this video was three yrs ago but however, I really wish that GHO’s never existed cause even though for whatever lazy reason a GHO can’t build their own stupid nest have to always steal an active Eagles nest or even an older nest of the Eagles too. I was wishing that the Eagle would wingslap that GHO right out of the nest. Sorry but that’s how I feel bout GHO’s and I will forever love the definite and only majestic and intelligent Raptors of all time and thet is the American Bald Eagles. Here everyone defends the eagle but perhaps the owl believed that the nest was abandoned 🤔? and the owl has put its egg it's clear that the Eagle defends its nest and the owl its egg 😢 In this case, can the eagle make another nest? or its that the owl has voted for the eagle's egg 😐?
Clearly the owl knew that the nest was occupied.. they kept attacking the eagles at night to get them off their nest.
