Some stuff that I picked up from the explanation and Kickstarter Page: 3. There seem to be actions that you can use to regain stamina, Chynna-Blue used it to remove 2 stamina. 5. That seems to be the case in the full game where you use the materials to craft your weapon and armor 9. Resistences are the elemental thresholds he mentions. So a high resistence would mean you need to apply the elemental effect multiple times to get the bonus. In this game the Rathalos had a rather low lightning resistance of 2, so every 2 lightning effects, it received "lightning" damage (damage where no armor applies). Didn't notice any mentioning of fire damage in this hunt used on Rathalos though, might have missed that. 10. For dodge: you place down the required number of cards onto your stamina board. Each monster attack mentions how much dodge is needed. This cost doesn't seem too steep considering that not all players get to act after a monsters attack anyway. So preferably you seem to take turns between who gets to "tank" the monster attack and who does the active actions. 11. Mentioned at 3:47: Game Over. This is just like the video game where you have 50 minutes to finish a hunt, else the hunt is over.
Didn't you just miss the third hunter activation after Rathalos' fire breath attack? At 30:55 you activate the monster for the third time, but each of the hunters only had one turn after the previous monster activation, but he was supposed to "pause" for three hunters activations

I think they mention right at the beginning that this is the assign quest one, so the first one you encounter. Perhaps it's indeed unusual to have farmed up the entire Anjanath armor on this point? Other wise, agreed. You'd probably use something with fire resistance when hunting Rathalos more "regulary", haha
Hi Hydros92, Jamie Perkins here. Rafael is right. At the end of your campaign, when you feel ready to try to win, you'll face the highest difficulty Rathalos. At this point, we'd definitely expect you to have crafted some stronger, fire resistant armour from either Anjanath or Rathalos itself.
Looking fantastic! I'm really going to look at the all in pledge. This looks like everything I enjoyed about DS without the problems. Only one complaint... Why are the boss behavior cards mini while the damage decks are full size? A full size card for a single number that one player needs to see... and a mini card for the complex iconography of the boss cards that all players need to reference? Seems a bit backward.
Hi The8bitSammich. Jamie Perkins here. Good question! The monster behaviour cards don't feature text and have a set symbol configuration, so the amount of information doesn't increase. On the other hand, the hunter attack cards vary in the amount of information presented and can feature both text and symbols, so we opted to allow more space for this.
@@Steamforged Gotcha. Really, it should work fine. I do think the boss cards are nice and clean. Easy to tell what each symbol means, even if I wish they were the larger size. For the hunters, I was referring to the damage deck, not the attack deck. Attack cards have a lot going on, but do damage cards ever have anything on them except a number? Not that I want them to be smaller. It's nice that they match the attack deck.
@@The8bitSammich Ah, so you were! Damage cards do only feature a number, but they're bigger because of how often they're shuffled. Be so devastating you would need a fire extinguisher at the ready to battle Fatalis...
Also, wondering is there space on the front side of the monster attack cards to see what body part the attack originates from? I noticed a few times Jamie having to flip over and check
What is the difference between the three cards you can get via the tracking tokens? Why would you want a higher/lower number? Does the high track token card make the game easier? Also: does it has to be an stamina end card that has to go on the fifth slot or can it be any stamina card. And do Stamina end cards only go on the 5th slot or can you play them on the third when you end your turn?
The choose your own adventure part seems bad...it lets you look at what you get for each option...with a clear winner. So, why would you ever pick the bad option?
Really really good playthrough! I'm even more psyched about this game now, I think you've done an excellent job in capturing the tactics of combat in this game, and I love how close you were to killing the Rathalos but ended up fainting a third time just before it could be finished off! Of course the obvious comparison is going to be with Primal: The Awakening which was on kickstarter a bit earlier this year. While i think the characters and abilities in Monster Hunter World seem very interesting and while the stamina board seems like a cool mechanic im more concerned about the monsters. With the previews of Jagras, Tobi-Kadachi, Anjanath and Rathalos i have not so far been sold on the idea that they are vastly different fights. It mostly seems like each is a beefier monster than the last with more health, more damage and another elemental effect. But by having the symbology on the AI cards you limit the design space to only include things like Move X, hit X on target or AOE. So i might be wrong, but i would need to see more variety in the fights to be jumping in. As a comparison in primal you have a drake that blocks players from playing cards as they are fighting fire. You have a barroth like dinosaur which you have to get to charge rocks so it gets stunned, you have a crablike monster that delays movement by making the area flooded and which forces you to have to attack it from behind. Just as examples
I Totally agree with you. This is the 7 video that i see in order to make up my mind to back it or not in direct comparison to primal. Sometimes i think both designers should mush toguether those two games to make one big epic one with the ideas combined.
Both of these people look so familiar to me, but I have no earthly idea where I've seen them before. I googled both of them, and I'm completely unsure.
Is there a chance a PDF of this will be released to backers with the game? I would love to be able to display the book on a big screen so that all players could see the options and read along the text as someone narrates it. Or even better an app is made that will go through the entries you pick while blurring out others on a big screen so that you can avoid staring at other potential entries
When you climbed up to the nest at the beginning, should it have been one more of each resource and one more time card? "each hunter gains one carbolite and gains a track token and discards a time card." Looked like you only did the one. Very interested to see more in the KS!
How is the time deck constructed? Is it the same for all bosses or are there times where you have to really rush to beat the monster etc. Same with the cards that arent just Keep hunting, are they the same in every hunt?
12:12 I must be blind but isn't the range on both hunter 3? Diagonal movements are allowed, right? Rathalos is three diagonal movement to the ranger and 1 diagonal + 2 orthogonal movement from the other hunter?
Hi Leonardo. Jamie Perkins here. Well spotted! You're correct. We were both 4 nodes from the monster. In a situation like this, when two (or more) hunters are the same distance from the monster, the target is whichever of those hunters has the highest threat level. Threat level is shown on the hunter's token (the token we were flipping to show we'd taken a turn). As it turns out, I had the highest threat level at 8, so the monster would have targeted me anyway.
@@Steamforged awesome thx for confirming. Looks like an awesome game here. I like how the monster pushes you around and you can dodge and kinda position yourself so your team mate can be safe or hit the enemy in certain parts. Btw you should have won this, can't believe you hit the enemy twice with a broken weapon 😂
Questions 20:53 the boss moves 4 times. is that correct? 2nd: if the Boss end its movenment, will it face towards his target or only before movement? 34:35 why can the boss not face to the note on the edge (diagonally) of the board? its the same distance (2) to the bow-hunter, but the hero of Jamie (in the middle) would be outside of the front ark is it possible to bring some dice or something instead of counting break tokens in the different body slots of the boss?
1) At 20:53, the Rathalos moved three nodes. The monster turning to face its target doesn’t count as a movement. 2) Before and after each node of movement, the monster will turn to face its target. So, it will always be facing its target when it finishes moving. As you can see in the video, when a monster turns to face its target, it ‘spins on the spot’, which doesn’t count as a node of movement.
3) In situations like this, where it’s not immediately clear which way the monster should face, it’s up to the players to make a call. The rulebook says: “Before and after each node of movement, including when the monster’s movement symbol is numbered 0, the monster rotates to face its target. If this would cause the monster to not directly face an adjacent node, the monster instead faces the closest adjacent node to its target." During play, I determined that the closest adjacent node to facing the bow hunter was the node chosen. 4) If you’d prefer to count break tokens using dice, that’s definitely something you can do.
@@Steamforged sorry. At 20:30: The dragon moves 2 spaces toward Jamie , turn and then he moves 2 space away from Jamie. In my opinion: 4 move steps. Doesn’t it?

This looks like it took a lot of the ideas from the dark souls board game boss combat. To which I dont mind at all because I thought that was the hilight of that game.
Probably not for me. I was expecting it, but the "adventure mode" feel like a subpar "Choose your Path" adventure book. I feel it would have been much better as a straight out TTRPG book / Arena battle. Not saying to duplicate D&D and change the paint on it, but move the mechanic in a way that would make it a RPG than a "rail explorer".
@@dav1dgear I'm not against a "Choose your Path" but this felt like a shy attempt and I believe a TTRPG would better suit this IP. Or maybe something like those "escape" games with cards (i.e.: Adventure Games : The Dungeon).
Yeah the adventure book was super boring... Just pick your option, get some stuff.... Read some more... I want to play a board game.... I was hoping that you would actually play the hunt phase instead of reading. Like walking with your mini thorough the Forrest and having an AI as the monster walking through the Forrest without you seeing where it is... Something like that instead of just having a book and read through it. Disappointed... Now watching the fight....lets see how that is. So far I am happy that I backed PRIMAL
For 300 bucks you can have it with all the expansions. That actually isn't bad considering how much content it has. It's easily a year's worth of game nights if you find the right group.
Wait, sharpen the Bow? Bows don't have sharpness. I hope this gets fixed... An potential fix could be, that Bows cannot sharpen but they reshuffle the damage deck once it depletes. Before the first reshuffle the player takes out a certain number of high value damage cards, simulating the use of power coatings and whatnot. Or maybe high power coating doesn't go back in to the hunter deck. Just some spitballing.
Just call it something else around the table when you play the game! ^^ It'd be kinda sorta confusing and unnecessary - especially towards new board gamers - to use multiple expressions/terms in the rulebook! Just roll with it, it's just much easier this way!
Hey there, the monster movement mechanics were initially based on Dark Souls, but have since been iterated on and further developed to far better fit the Monster Hunter World experience.
So basically, they reskined their darksouls board game as monster hunter, added minor improvements, some tweaks to fit the setting, a campaign element , a choose your own adventure system, and parts breaking........ I'm hands down getting everything, the all in version. This is exactly what I had hoped for. Gonna be the jewel in my board game collection. Steamforged really kicks ass. Fuck yes. Only thing I'm worried about is the packaging. I had to return several mega bosses from dark souls because they broke in shipping. Items should be packaged to prevent movement during transit, (inside the actual product box), and it wasnt optimal. Most of these monsters are mega boss size, and they are so beautiful I'd hate for breaking. So hopefully they make that simple adjustment. I'm sure if they can design a master peice like this, they'll fix that minor issue. Only actual criticism (which isnt that valid since it could be a game balance issue.) Is you dont sharpen after carting. In world you did and knowing the difficulty of theirgames, players could probably use that help.,
Fall damage in Monster Hunter? Uhhh? Losing more weapon sharpness while in water? Bow users needing to sharpen weapon? Blunt weapons can't slay monsters? What's going on here?
the only thing I'm sad about is that they haven't said if they are going to translate to Spanish, I would like to play it with friends but in my native toungue. it's not funny to play a game like this and always being translating everything instead of enjoying :(
Why in Gods name would you Reimplement the Dark Souls board game? Horizon Zero Dawn wasn't a great game, but it would've been a LEAGUES better starting point than going back to the Dark Souls game.
The boss fight mechanic of Dark Souls fits better with the Monster Hunter theme in my opinion. I agree that HZD is way better than DS, but the machine behaviors are too unpredictable and their facing doesn't matter at all. I didn't find anything wrong with the dark souls boss fights either. The issue was the 3 hour grind to get to the boss fight. That's flat out skipped here. I'm also thrilled with the pick-your-path intro.
I’m happy I watched this now I know it’s a pass . I would much rather play KD . Also watching the designer hair blocking his eyes and constantly moving it out of his eyes was driving me nuts !

I was late to make a late pledge. Will I still be able to get the game???? I am so hyped for this I need it in my life
Also, wondering is there space on the front side of the monster attack cards to see what body part the attack originates from? I noticed a few times Jamie having to flip over and check
At 1:12:08 when the Rathlos does the fire spin attack, should it have moved afterwards or does it stay still because the hunter faints?
Hi Chris, Jamie Perkins here. You're right, the Rathalos should have moved afterward. Apparently fainting can be a bit distracting!
@@Steamforged cheers
Looking forward to this, just wanted to make sure I'd understood right!
25:19 nice bars
If dude doesn't make it as a designer, he has a bright future as an auctioneer.
Would be nice to see the text on the cards, show us what do you hand in your hands, etc.
Such bad luck with forgetting about sharpening _twice_ >
dude loving the flash back profile picture that takes me back...
@@venomgold Very happy to have someone recognize it :3 *high-five*
By the length the video is, it mean they failed the quest cause time ran out, gotta remember that you get 50min quest time, rookie mistake🤷
Hey Jaime, will the models be available for purchase separate from the game itself? For painting and use in other games?
Are there any plans for something like a companion app for the smart phone for the character sheet?
I've used a standard notes app, and honestly, it's good enough.
On the card that we saw, once the Rathalos gets below 35 health its deck switches up. Did I miss that happening or was it just forgotten?
Hi Stephanie. Jamie Perkins here. Looks like I got caught up in the excitement and didn't implement the Rathalos' special rule.
@@Steamforged It happens, just wanted to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding something. I'm so excited for this and can't wait to get hold of it (even if we've not heard anything of Paolumu [best monster])
@@Steamforged Thinking of it, I wonder if it's possible to put a symbol on the Rathalos health dial that makes it clear you're going past that mark as I imagine a lot of people could easily forget about those breakpoints.
@@SAHanson the problem is that the HP Dial is the same one for every monster and not every monster has this special ability.
now i have seen this physically im a lot more excited... i would love to see some solo play... more than happy to produce some solo content myself :) Stay Hexy!
Khador still misses you Jamie P....
...the motherland is calling!
Both of these people look so familiar to me, but I have no earthly idea where I've seen them before. I googled both of them, and I'm completely unsure.
Why does he say 5 damage minus 3 is 2 but then only takes 1 damage off the creature
Seeing the DMC boxes behind makes me wonder, are you going to be doing more expansions for it?
Is there a chance a PDF of this will be released to backers with the game? I would love to be able to display the book on a big screen so that all players could see the options and read along the text as someone narrates it. Or even better an app is made that will go through the entries you pick while blurring out others on a big screen so that you can avoid staring at other potential entries
An app would be AMAZING! And easy to update too so we can get new choices just to get more replayability
I wonder if you could paint them like Warhammer
I've tried looking around online is there a way in the UK to get this as I can't find it anywhere other than for a few hundred pounds
Hi Jonathon, the game is currently shipping to Kickstarter backers right now. We'll be releasing the game in retail a little later in the year :)
How long do you guys think this game would take to get out to players from the start date of kickstarter 🤔🤔
When you climbed up to the nest at the beginning, should it have been one more of each resource and one more time card?
"each hunter gains one carbolite and gains a track token and discards a time card."
Looked like you only did the one.
Very interested to see more in the KS!
Also, consider a pdf translation to portuguese for the questbook and you will get a lot more backers.
Sucks because: Need to have a few close up cameras... we cant see what is happening. & we don’t know the game enough to know what is happening
How is the time deck constructed? Is it the same for all bosses or are there times where you have to really rush to beat the monster etc. Same with the cards that arent just Keep hunting, are they the same in every hunt?
The number of cards depends on the monster! Haven't seen any info on the contents of the deck though.
they forgot to take 3 card tokens for sucessfully climbing the cliff...
But it did not change the result for the monster behaivoir.
Then deviljho arrived, arch tempered angry deviljho ~ 🤣🤣🤣

we need a PC version of this board game ... and no i dont mean it as a joke about MHW. I mean we really need a PC version of the board game.

Just noticed the HP counter you had for Rathalos, is that included?
Hey Dan. Yes, a monster health dial is included in both the Ancient Forest and the Wildspire Waste core sets :)

Hunters don't wear gloves or belts? Why do you take damage for falls and climbing?
I would like to do the KS of this since i love MH games but i haven't understand pretty much of this board game...you talked waaaaay to fast for me :(
Questions
20:53 the boss moves 4 times. is that correct?
2nd: if the Boss end its movenment, will it face towards his target or only before movement?
34:35 why can the boss not face to the note on the edge (diagonally) of the board? its the same distance (2) to the bow-hunter, but the hero of Jamie (in the middle) would be outside of the front ark
is it possible to bring some dice or something instead of counting break tokens in the different body slots of the boss?
should be 3 according to the cards. They also should get 3 more track token because of the roll on the adventure mode.
Hi, Jamie Perkins here. Thanks for your questions!
Doesn’t it?

Hi Julio, with the game now shipping to Kickstarter backers, I'm sure there will be lots more content to see very soon!
I actually like that and hope it was longer with some mini battles along the way
@@dav1dgear I'm not against a "Choose your Path" but this felt like a shy attempt and I believe a TTRPG would better suit this IP. Or maybe something like those "escape" games with cards (i.e.: Adventure Games : The Dungeon).
@@Kalahee yes it can be better I agree.
Meh great concept and something new to do with a group of smart intellectual peers ..
SFG is "Uwe Boll" of board games
I'm not surprised they are english, one bit.
I don't care how much money it takes I would rather live in a box then not have this
For 300 bucks you can have it with all the expansions.
In video game hammers are sharpen.... 😉
This would have gone a lot better if she knew what she was doing...
The movement mechanics are as clunky as Dark Souls the board game. I hope you guys write a better rulebook
Hey there, the monster movement mechanics were initially based on Dark Souls, but have since been iterated on and further developed to far better fit the Monster Hunter World experience.
Still waiting on my Dark Souls Board Game that I ordered years ago.
You aren't missing much.
What's going on here?
the only thing I'm sad about is that they haven't said if they are going to translate to Spanish, I would like to play it with friends but in my native toungue. it's not funny to play a game like this and always being translating everything instead of enjoying :(
He's talking so fast. I can barely understand what he's saying.
Why in Gods name would you Reimplement the Dark Souls board game? Horizon Zero Dawn wasn't a great game, but it would've been a LEAGUES better starting point than going back to the Dark Souls game.
Because dark souls is actually a good game and people just don't understand how it works? Like how they hate fallout the board game.
I really love dark souls board game
The boss fight mechanic of Dark Souls fits better with the Monster Hunter theme in my opinion. I agree that HZD is way better than DS, but the machine behaviors are too unpredictable and their facing doesn't matter at all. I didn't find anything wrong with the dark souls boss fights either. The issue was the 3 hour grind to get to the boss fight. That's flat out skipped here. I'm also thrilled with the pick-your-path intro.
@@dav1dgear I’ve own the DS board game. I know how to play it. It’s just bad.
@@yoshizaki2863 I value your opinion. However, I think there are many games that do what Dark Souls does but about 4 hours shorter.
