Oh man, walking along the boardwalk and through some of the town with the boutiques and patios looks so amazing. Then I turn my head and look out my window to a foot of snow on the ground in Toronto...nooooo. Thanks for bringing Las Terrenas to us in wintry Canada :)

Funny thing is Dominicans flying north just to play in the snow is a frequent bucket list item. It doesn't ever snow in the DR.

I'm going to guess that your next destinations is our mountains towns Jarabacoa, Constanza and trust me you are not going to be disappointed.😉It's true Dominican Republic has it all! Awesome!!! Las terrenas used to be one of my favorite places. It’s crazy to see how much is grown over the years. Europeans started visiting Samana in the 80s BTW. The French are the ones who actually started migrating to this area and had the vision of recreating a little bit a France in Las Terrenas. Then the Italians followed, although they already had a huge presence in the southeast (Bayahibe, Juan Dolio, etc). Germans and British started migrating to Cabarete in the late 90s. And now is the Russians. For some reason, they are moving to the DR by the hundreds. 😂

& don’t forget that the deep southwest of the Dominican Republic, is geographically removed from the country’s primary tourist destinations - but those who get closer will find that remoteness has its perks: the most biodiverse reserve and parks in the country, surfing beaches drawing athletes in search of their next break, fresh water cascades turned natural recreational swimming parks, birding havens tucked amid mountain ranges, and plantations producing some of the country’s finest coffee.⬇️

The food looks really good and I notice at @8.47 when Anna lifted her aperol spritz behind the beach background, there is a rainbow above her orange. Speaking of shopping, you should also consider buying some Larimar stone jewelry. This rare stone in only found in the DR and it is good to give as gift. Don't pay tourist price for jewelry as you can work with them on lowering the prices.

In anticipation of your video I stumbled across a YT post last night from a Canadian named Kash who owns a real estate company there in LT and he posted from a Canadian owned bar on the beach at Playa Bonita named "One Love" that apparently is frequented by ex-pats. You get an excellent view of the area, as on one vid he takes you on a drive thru the whole town area down to the end and pointed out that ship mall/hotel as well as many other spots. He also just gives great info aside from his realtor business. Tucked back in the Bonita beach area are some very exclusive properties. Anyway I did get hook on watching as it was -20 to -30 C here for the last week with nowhere to go

There's a lot of Canadians, French, Italian, Hatians, Dominicans and a few Americans who also live in Las Terrenas. There's a french school, amazing bilingual doctors, great food options from Mexican, Indian, Italian, French and Asian food and grocery stores. Usually only the people who live in that side know of Las Terrenas but it's getting popular now. A lot of European/Canadians are buying investment properties or just buying a property to move. The housing market is brutal there.

  • @drtracking

I'm not a historian but the first time I visited Las Terrenas was in 1991. Las Terrenas grew faster because of El Portillo. Basically a community of Canadians, French and Spanish started visiting, some who where pilots that had their cabins next to the ocean, next to what now is Bahia Principe El Portillo. The creation of Portillo Airport gave access to those that could travel by air ( Similar on how Punta Cana started with Frank Rainiery ) The roads where practically none existing.. It has grown slowly with time ( Compare to Punta Cana ) but the visitors now are way different than back then. The airport closed because of ..... not good practice and use.
Hope you have fun in Jarabacoa.

I have to Google the history of Puerto Plata and Punta Cana. I remember the island was not quite developed during the 70's. It is true that the DR has made major investment in the 90's and 2000's to open all these resorts to attract visitors from Europe and Latin Americas. It is You Tuber like Delightful Travellers (Anna & Trevor), Jumping Places (Chris & Carol), that open up all these fascinating places for us to experience.

Loved your video again this week. I became a little hooked on looking at more info about this area as it is beautiful. It has been gaining popularity and especially in 2021 has had a lot of growth with new construction of condos/villas etc. Lots of opportunity in the buy/sell and rent area as more people making changes to their lifestyle due to the last two years. I think many have guessed that you are going inwards to a mountain area and probably exploring some waterfall/spring areas? Will have to wait to see. Interesting to see how you compare the two places; so many factors to consider that will be different for many people.

Hi, new sub here! Love your videos! I am a Torontonian but worked in the DR and Mexico for 7 years with a big tour operator. I worked in all-inclusives in Pto Pta, Sosua and Cabarete. Don't know if you've tried the lambi yet but if you like conch and are offered lambi at the beach or the malecon, give it a try! It's stewed conch and seasoned sooo good! I miss the food and beach so much. Good for you for living your best lives!

Rio San Juan / Cabrera is right in the middle of Cabarete / Las terrenas and it's absolutely beautiful as well. I'd be happy to show you around. But the north coast in general is nice.
Regarding the guys scooping at night they're fishing for Eel larvas to export to Japan and other places. they grow them there for comercial use.

First, sorry for my bad english....
I'm french and I visit last year Punta Cana with my wife ans our 6 yeras old son.
We really love RD ans this year, we have decide to visit Las terrenas and for that, yours videos are a big, big help for us because you give us many ideas, beautiful place.
All your videos help us a lot to find the best place for our next hollidays in October.
Thank you so much, it's a real pleasure to discover your video and your kindness.
If you have the possibility to create a map ou maybe show on your video where you find exactly a good hotel, a beautiful place and a great restaurant, it will be very wonderful.
    Long life to your channel
    Best regards from France
Pascal and Olivia (and the little Samuel ;-)

We so appreciate the kind words and we're glad you're finding the videos helpful. We definitely do not have time to create a map like that though. The videos take A LOT of work to produce 😀We just use AirBnB and Google maps to find places for the most part - Trevor
