"And they made new friends... And the barbeque, that's what it's all about"
- Coach Dony
I died here
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial surprisingly, I have no objections
About Tsukki's brother: he was in the stands because Japanese HS volleyball rules allow for only 12 players max to be on the court. This includes starters and bench players. You can sometimes see the rest of players for big teams cheering from the stands.
And one more comment about shoes. It's not just valuing volleyball shoes, but just in general taking off your outside shoes when coming inside is an ingrained part of Japanese culture. That's why Kyoko changes shoes too, even though she's not playing. And also why you can see Takeda-sensei wearing slippers in school.
Thank you for your videos! They really became one of my Saturday highlights.
Upping! I always thought it was because Karasuno had a tiny gym and having too many of its players on the floor would be a hazard. Thanks for the insight
upping this for coach to see!
up you go
Yep. In Japanese schools you have to change into indoor shoes, so I hadn’t noticed the detail about Hinata holding his volleyball shoes. That is, I didn’t think of it as special to volleyball. It’s just normal in Japan not to wear indoor shoes outside and vice versa. Coach Donny has made me realize that volleyball players are a lot like ballerinas when it comes to shoes.
@@seekittycat Haha, that's certainly sensible :)) But, for example, in a Shiratorizawa game you can sometimes see, like, almost two rows of their players up among the other spectators. And Shiratorizawa has no lack of gym space.
the moment where hinata recognizes that kageyama held back is so important, it just shows that they are always pushing each other, consciously or not, to do their best
I love how their friendship is just calling each out where nobody else would.
They always try to help the other when he is down (Kageyama adjusting his set so that Hinata don't feel frustrated) and pull each other to improve (Hinata telling Kageyama to not give up)... They are soulmates, platonic and the type I like.
26:32 “What’s Bokuto doing with his head”
-> If you were to stand face to face with an owl, after a while it would start to move its head, bobbing rhythmically from side to side, then forward, then back. All these varied head movements help the owl judge the position and distance of things around itㅡthis owls’ behavior is taught from parent to chicks, demonstrating Bokuto being one of the influencer to Hinata.
Omg someone finally explained it, thank you!!!
Great comment. thanks!
omg I never made this connection before and now my mind is blown
Upping what an amazing explaination I learn something new about Haikyuu everyday! And how "Hina" sounds like baby bird so it really is just so perfect.
Up!!!
I love how Kuroo’s shown in a bit of new light in this episode, and those moments set us up for the future events really well. One is him cheering Hinata up when they have to finish the 3-on-3 early, saying that they would continue the next day - such a small but sweet gesture, he really does have a soft spot for Karasuno’s MBs x) (and this particular interaction wasn’t in the manga btw, it’s an anime original moment!)
And the second is Kuroo telling Hinata and Tsukki about wanting to make the “Battle of the Garbage Dump” a reality. Even at this stage it’s simply heart-warming to see a player want to make the coach’s dream come true; and the way this sentimental dork gets a bit embarrassed and tries to quickly dismiss it with a “well it’s good practice for me as well”~ Clearly not fooling Tsukki or Hinata though, judging by their expressions.
I JUZ LOVE HIM SO MUCH. He seems to be a funny childish guy, but at the same time, such a gentle and respnsible spirit inside. He realized he had said sth wrong and piss tsukki off, he went straight up to daichi and explain the situation. He never hesitated to share his experience and knowledge to tsukki and hinata. HE REALLY IS MY FAV
and all those points explain why he is such a perfect fit for his role at the end of the story (manga readers know, it's pretty far from being animated)
Imo this is why Kuroo, Daichi and Bokuto gets along so well
Ahhh I love those Kuroo moments. Hinata’s so ecstatic to be acknowledged ^_^
The reason Kuro has such a soft spot for Hinata is because Hinata gets along well with Kenma, that's his boy. Kenma is not really a social person and it's rare for him to be so open to other people.
During the "Meat is God" song, You can see Kageyama trying to join Hinata, Tanaka and Nishinoya and ended up dancing at the side. It's so fun yet Kageyama is changing for the better. I'M LOVING HIS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
(I even recorded the scene on my phone, It's so hilarious! 🤣)
Kageyama awkward dancing is everything 😂🤣🤣
@@seekittycat yeah. I was laughing with Coach Donny so hard.

I love how when Coach Ukai said "As much as you can, visualize a spiker" and like Kageyama immediately thought of Hinata. It just shows how much he wanted to improve for Hinata and other teammate's sake
I think it was because he was training those sets for Hinata only. After all coach Ukai said Hinata felt like he was under pressure for not having a clean set to spike, not anyone else and no one else is seen using the falling set
Fun Fact: Kuroo is one of the players that Tsukki looks up to in volleyball. The other one is his big brother.

/wants to spoil but won't but no he still admires Akiteru. His relationship with his brother changed but it's still very warm. I haven’t seen anyone saying this so far, so “182 cm guy” is Akaashi Keiji. He’s a second year and the setter and vice-captain for Fukurodani. He’s also Bokuto’s best friend and pretty much the only one who can handle him and his hyper-ness. I love their dynamic so much and, honestly, it’s really hard to believe they’ve only known each other for a year and a half. I could go into further detail about them, but a lot of info about their relationship is either in season 4 or hasn’t been animated yet.
I was just gonna say he’s the most beautiful character in Haikyū, but yes you’re absolutely right 🤣🦉💙
I live for Bokuto and Akaashi moments *sobs*

@@wonderlandian-geek you’re welcome X3
I don't know if you noticed this coach, but when Hinata and Lev simultaneously entered gym #3, Kuro asked ''weren't you practicing receives with Yaku?'', Lev answers that Yaku let him go as he did well today. Then they shift the scene to Nekoma's team, where Yaku is looking for Lev (aka he ran away from Yaku)
Lmaooo this was so funny.
You can even hear/read him say "I never said that!"
Don’t worry about Tsukki coach! He will strike again when you at least expect it hehe. Remember, he’s the moon. His development is subtle and also consistent. It would be out of character for him to see super big changes immediately.
oh and WHEN Tsukki strikes, it will be phenomenal! Stay tuned for THAT moment Coach!
This is such a great way to describe Tsukki’s evolution.
Yes. Tsukki is a waxing crescent readying to enter waxing gibbous at the moment. :)
Coach Donny describes the game so nicely it's as if we are living in it
Trueeeee
Coach Donny commentator of the year
I absolutely adore Akaashi and Bokuto’s banter, as well as their friendship with Kuroo. The training camp arc is definitely a top favorite of mine, we see so much growth and character development.
I can’t wait for the next episode, Fukurodani is a team that’s so enjoyable to watch because of the dynamic.
Just so you know, Koutarou Bokuto is the third-year ace and captain of Fukurodani. He wears the #4 jersey though because that is traditionally the ace jersey in Fukurodani. #5 is Keiji Akaashi, a second-year setter and vice-captain of the team.
“Volleyball players value their shoes like gold”
Season 4 just made a bit more sense
I just binged all of season 4 and saw this seen and was like "just use some other shoes damnit. What's the big deal?" Now I know.
Fun Fact: Bokuto Koutaro , one of the top 5 aces in the country (the guy with the black and white hair)'s physical apperance is inspired from a horned owl meanwhile Lev Haiba's physical appearance is inspired from a cat breed "Russian Blue" with emerald green eyes and ash gray hair just like Lev also the fact that he's Russian too and his physical appearance is inspired to a *Russian* Blue Cat :)
I hold the power HAHA It's at 99 likes.~
Bokuto is best
Bokuto is Top 4
It's actually crazy how Coach is sometimes not quite paying attention to what's going on because he's talking over it, but he's somehow exactly saying what the text is on screen just from his own experience. Like at 30:12, he's describing the way they look "proud" and that's literally what the subtitles are describing hahaha
From my understanding the super animated spin on kageyama’s new set is to illustrate how he purposely put a reverse spin on the ball so it catches air friction and dies like how a sinker ball pitch in baseball falls because the spin is reversed. I don’t think it’s all that possible but it’s one of his anime moves.
yeah, this! really well explained :)
Exactly!
boosting this comment
Yep, definitely a more _anime atakku!_ version of "The Rock" coach mentioned a few episodes prior.
Thank you I almost died when he was like "this is wrong dadada" and they even explained the spinning technique before (doesnt matter if it is realistic or not)

I literally replayed the whole scene in my mind while reading this
I can hear the voices
Fun fact: the author of haikyuu (Haruichi Furudate) had to treat the author of kuroko no basket (an anime about basketball) with food so that he can learn to draw sweat properly
I am a simple man, I see coach Donny, I stop whatever I’m doing cuz it’s time to get the haikyuu party started
The moment Kuroo realizes that Hinata is bummed about ending practice and invites him back for the next day is the moment I knew Kuroo was going to be my favourite. Kuroo is best boy. Such a little thing, but it really shows how great he is as a leader - even for members of opposing teams. Love him.
Kuroo is somehow the Suga AND the Daichi of his team, and I love him so much! He's such a fascinating character, with little quirks and traits that don't seem like they'd mesh on paper, but somehow they do!
It's cool to see how both Kuroo and Bokuto have elements of the chaotic energy that typically annoys Tsukki to no end, but they balance it with insight and authority in a way that still earns Tsukki's respect.
I can see Tanaka leveling up to find that balance, in the future.
21:45 and also who wouldn't love Bokuto? He's been saying "Hey Hey Hey!" victoriously and he's just the purest cinnabun I have ever met in anime
Coach Donny keeps on noticing and explaining even the tiniest detail that a regular anime/sports fan like me wouldn't notice:
1. hinata and vball players holding their shoes
2. the spin of the ball when the setter tosses
3. the loose net
Stop blowing my mind Coachie!
Just kidding, that's why I love watching your reaction videos!
Really excited for the collab with victoria garrick!
We are all excited to see Tsukki's character development. Don't worry Coach! We will see it soon! There's a reason why Tsukki is considered as the person who has the greatest character development ❤️❤️
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the deal was that Tsukki saw his brother put so much energy and effort into volleyball and receive nothing for his efforts. I can image watching the most committed, hardest-working, passionate, skilled person you know doing 110% and putting their heart, soul and everything they have (day in and day out) into improving their one passion, and then seeing them end up having nothing to show for it (after even lying)- that must be pretty devastating. Like: this is the most passionate player I know and they never even got the chance to play, just because there's so many other skilled people out there that their effort ends up meaning nothing. That feels like it must be extremely demoralizing.
The Fukurodani setter for Bokuto is Akaashi he is super interesting so another name to remember! You can remember by how Bokuto yells Akaaaashiii. "He's like a little gremlin". Omg yes Hinata is indeed a volleyball gremlin 😂 he's so cute this episode. The relationships of this outside practice is long reaching I'm glad you like them.
Even though it might not look like it, the fact that Tsukki is doing free practices says a lot. Before he used to avoid it and he used to be more reserved or reluctant when receiving criticism. So these changes, even though they might not seem like a big thing, really reflect Tsukki's first steps towards improvement. Man, I just LOVE season 2!!! It makes me so happy :D
One interesting detail about wearing the volleyball shoes on the court only: this is true of all the shoes in Japanese schools, actually! I lived there and taught English there for a while, and every person, student and teacher alike, had specific outdoor shoes and indoor shoes, plus their sports shoes if they were involved in a club. We’d walk up to the school and in between buildings in the outdoor shoes and switched to the indoor shoes when we entered a building. There were cubbies for your shoes at a lot of entrances, or you’d see a pile of shoes by an entrance if not, haha. Taking off shoes applies to many other instances in Japan, like certain restaurants and clothes store dressing rooms, too!
We are so blessed to have Victoria and Coach Donny reacts to Haikyuu!!
It's happening guys, 2 of the best Haikyuu! reactors is doing a collab video about Haikyuu!!
lemme guess, Victoria's fave character is Nishinoya because they are both libero and wearing #4.

Adonis is probably the best non athlete reactor for the show (more than sos and sirmonkeysuits)
And Sarah Pavan is the most accomplished athlete reacting to it.
@@kronikevaporation6007 ahh thank you ! i might check sarah pavan reaction after this 🙌🏻
@@nurafiqah4212 She might be a bit close minded in the beginning (i am guessing its because its her first anime or even show like these in general), but bear through her for the first few episodes and you'll get to a point where her reactions will be even more wholesome than the episodes lol.
Btw she has been an olympian, one of the best players on Canadian women's team, then later switched to Beach volleyball and became the fucking world champion (!). (So from indoor to beach, a bit of Hinata) She is even more accomplished than Erik Shoji.
Also she is 2 effing meters tall lol
Fun fact just in case you didn't know:
The Fukuro in Fukurodani means owl and the Shiratori in Shiratorizawa can mean swan but is composed of two kanji characters that literally read "white bird"
"Please Haikyuu, stop blowing my mind with these poetic details!" is the phrase I'm going to take into my life from now on.
The reaction videos are the only thing I look upto after a tiring week
I agree that it would have been way better for Tsukki's brother to have been honest, but the thing about Haikyuu that I love the most is how human it is, and how it embraces the flaws of the individuals as well as praising the strengths! Tsukki looked up to his brother and idolized him. "The coolest older brother!" You can see how proud he is of him, even if it was built on those lies. The lies were told because the brother understood how much Tsukki idolized him, and although it was a flaw, it was an extremely human one. I think that's very in line with the haikyuu philosophy.
I feel so happy when i see coach Donny laugh at the barbecue scene😂
Time point plz
The author of haikyuu said that their favourite pastime activities are eating and drinking so yeah :,) also the gender of the author is not confirmed, many people in Japan believe that they could even be a woman. Not that it would matter to the story, but I just think that it’s a very interesting fact!
don't know if anyone already said this, but the title was in relation to when Hinata did that wipe on Lev. the title was VS "Umbrella". Akaashi (Fokurodani setter) said that Lev, Kuroo, and Tsukki blocking Hinata wasn't even a "wall" anymore, but an "umbrella" as it looked like it was a Kill block..
19:18 Yes! Another classic meme! I mean y'all know when Kuroo said "I've always been this kind" and ya see Tsukki's face like "Yeah right, that ain't true" and I still couldn't get enough of it and cracked up so hard!
Lol I’m the dub he says “what’s so weird about me being nice, and helping my volleyball brethren”
I'm glad you enjoyed this episode so much! One major issue with a lot of sports related anime/manga is the amount of time spent on training vs. competition. Haikyuu has a really realistic amount of training and practice, but there's so many interesting stories and interactions to tell during that practice. Some other shows can "overglorify" the tournament parts, so I really appreciate how this is actually more like what goes on in a sports team during their seasons.
Coach: Bokuto is more refined and emotionally mature than Tanaka
Me, knowing what's in the next ep, as well as season 4: LOL
I legit died laughing.
This is for the last episode:
TSUKI'S POINT OF VIEW
I just want to point out why Tsuki is how he is now was not just because he was betrayed by his brother but because he saw how hard his brother worked, YET he didn't achieve anything in highschool bec. there are so much more better people than him.
He loves volleyball so much that he lied to his younger brother, who looks up to him.
It explains Tsuki's ideology of why he hated Hinata at first in Season 1 because of his "needless passion" as Tsukishima describe, just like his brother. As he explained in this episode, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMEONE BETTER, so why try, showing how traumatized he was and he how actually kinda emphatized with his brother.
HIS BROTHER'S SIDE
Also for those who didn't understand Tsuki's brother. I'm talking about his reasons. He was the ace on his middle school. He clearly felt like he would be looked at like a disappointment if he wasn't the ace like everyone believed he would be. He tried to prevent Tsuki from ever knowing and it backfired on him even more. Ot was a bad decision, but it's understandable when it's something he's put so much effort towards his little brother watching the whole way.
Also he was still in the team. You could say a benchwarmer. But we need to recall that Karasuno at that time was as it's height and had many highly skilled players that they had more than the allowed amount of people on the bench. So some of the benchwarmers had to stay in the stands. I would imagine Tsuki's brother is as powerful as Asahi& Future Tanaka but it's jut that there are more players better than him. The tragedy of Tsuki's brother is he is skilled volleyball player and he worked really hard but because there are so many "elite" players at that time he never got to play.
Since i was late last time. Didn't get to put my thoughts: Here it is.
I just finish watching Coach's video on ep 8 today since i was so busy.
THIS. yes yes yes
And i guess tsukki kinda see hinata as the second little giant while he is his brother.
Yes, I think part of it is also that Akiteru got caught up in this big lie, which obviously hurt Tsuki. So for him, it also comes down to "why get so wrapped up in something and devote so much to it if it results in you doing something so lame in the end".
UP this
Karasuno: *Hardest team to play against*
Also Karasuno: ALL HAIL THE MEAT GODS
I love how these boys act like dorks and Fukurodani is like wtf they're terrifying 😂
What is that proud feeling i have when Coach Donny remembers a name xDDD
I dunno if you noticed coach, but it was the 4 idiots (Kageyama, Hinata, Nishinoya, Tanaka) who were dancing to the tune of MEAT during that scene! 😂 Which made that part even more hilarious for me 🤣
Coach please put on headphones from now on amazing OST's are coming 🔥🔥🔥
ooooh FLY HIGH!
Fun fact: When the team managers were talking about seeing a stag beetle, it's similar to the stag beetle that showed up in the last episode. The stag beetle symbolizes hard work, progress, and metamorphosis!
Upping! Wow this symbolism 😍
These reactions being released in the morning, minutes before my online classes makes me anxious the whole class for its end to watch it... I would totally open the video and watch it in a different tab over the class... the only problem is that I'm the teacher '-.- hahaha
Coach donny, I watch your haikyuu reacts since the first episode and I'm Brazilian, here in Brazil haikyuu has many fans and I know many who also watch his reacts, I was wondering if it is possible You activate automatic subtitles in Portuguese for our experience with your react to get better, even more knowing that one day you will arrive in the third season and we are looking forward to seeing your reaction.
Commenting to get this highlighted. I am from India, so I get the requirement of a native language subtitle. :) hope Coach is able to see and adapt this in his upcoming videos.
I think that they are showing small tidbits of Tsuki's growth here by him willingly coming to do extra practice, taking advice from Kuroo on blocking and implementing what he is learning. Also, less snarky remarks lol. So proud of his growth 🥰
FYI Whip was the technique which was used by the Little Giant to fight taller players in mid air. He was considered the best for Whip Hits during his time that's why the Umbrella reference was so poetic, just like water drop falling from the umbrella, the whip is Hinata hitting the ball at Blocker's fingertips following in the Footsteps of Little Giant.
Coach, just in case u missed this, Lev was actually practicing receives with his other teammates, but he made an excuse to go the bathroom to be able to practice blocking with Kuroo
I think it's neat to have both characters that express themselves really extrovertedly, like Hinata, and people that express themselves in a more introverted way, like Tsukishima. Different personalities show their commitm ent in different ways: you don't need to vocalize in order to be competitive, invested or supportive, you just need to show up and put in your all.
So I think the huge development we're seeing from him here is just the fact that Tsukki joined Kuroo and Bokuto in training as a seemingly regular thing, where he refused to before- so it's subtle, like the way he expresses himself, but it does feel like Tsukki is a character where you need to pay attention to what he's actually doing, not what he's saying. Anyway, I just thought that's also super cool!
Is Tsuki really introverted tho?
Just in case you see him more later, the setter that plays for Fukurōdani (the powerhouse school with Bokuto) is named Akaashi. I loved your reactions to this episode! This is probably one of my favorite episodes of the series with Akaashi and Bokuto training with Hinata. I just loved this episode and was so excited for you to react to it! Thank you!!!!
The Training Camp arc is definitely one of the best parts of season 2... hands down
I just want to point out that in the first failed quick attempt by Hinata and Kageyama in this episode, they both say "I'm sorry" at the same time, but each walk two different directions out of the frame. This is to point out that they are both trying to do the same thing, but not together. You could also see it as working towards the same thing, but from different angles.
fun facts: when japanese people adding -san or -chan on people’s last name (for the example; hinata-kun) , it means that;
-san : respect
-chan : cute girl/boy/just wanna messed with people like the way oikawa calls kageyama
-kun : friendly
-sama : very respect(in UK we called it as Sir or something.)
Every time Coach Donny expresses how good the animation is and how they capture REAL volleyball events into the anime, I can't help but feel bad and uneasy for what to come when he starts to watch season 4. I hope this does not count as spoilers but, huhu, please, Coach Donny, prepare yourself for the worst!
Haikyuu really take its time to develop their characters. So we see tsukki is training more to be better but it doesn't show that tsukki be better immediately. Can't wait for coach to reach tsukki evolving point.
*Coach Donny* : This is going down as one of my favorite scenes in season 2, so good. (31:21)
*Me* : Just wait for it...
*Haikyuu* : (31:54)
I LOVE how much coach Donny laughed at the barbeque scene!! His laugh was goals, something that I didn't even realize I needed.
I loved how couch donny followed the oya oya oya? With oya oya oya oya? 😂♥️
I love Yachi's narration here as well! It's also so amazing to see that even though she's completely new to the sport, she's already so invested in the team and their progress!! It really shows that she was not half-hearted/forced at all when she decided to join as a manager.
Amazing reaction and commentary as always!! :D
I understand that tsukki's development is very slow, but when the moon becomes full, it becomes very bright and shines in it's own beautiful light...something sensei Takeda might say! 🥰

I absolutely love how the Karasuno boys find encouragement and drive from some of the smallest things like the barbecue. I think it’s such an admirable trait, that even when they’re brought down (like the game against Seijoh), they find the motivation to keep on fighting and growing. I also absolutely love watching them all evolve and seeing the changes in which they play volleyball. This continues on throughout the next seasons (which I love seeing), and I can’t not feel so proud of them all for all the hard work they’ve put in and how much they have grown.
The meat dance scene!!! OHhhHHHh I love that so much! Obviously Kageyama is excited and want to fit in too but not know how. His body is expressing the joy anyway. So cute
About the exaggerated spin on the ball that Kageyama sets, it's actually the way of the author to get the "Ball that stops", he uses a powerful reverse spin to prematurely make the ball fall just in front of Hinata's strike zone.
i don’t play volleyball, but for basketball players, the shoe thing is something i resonated with. i always had my court shoes, and then my slides for after a long day of practice in my bag. it was almost a sin to be wearing your court shoes outside on the cement LMAO
I think that a lot scenes with food show the love of food that you can see all around Japan. Even when travel agencies advertise any prefecture they will advertise foods that you can eat there and places where you can eat. There are A LOT of shows on Japanese TV with food in them. Celebrities go to some little known place and eat there, adverts of newly opened places, little towns and villages with unusual dishes or different recipes for everyday food. Food is everywhere. Pins, notebooks, plushes, pillows, underwear, mascots. Literally everywhere. So it's really important that every single show has some scenes connected to delicious looking food. Also barbecue is mainly beef in Japan, and beef is really expensive, so most of the students wait for barbecue and get really excited about it. Of course there are people who don't love eating or not intrested in food, but they're in the minority. That's why Japan has a lot of seasonal products to keep buyers intrested in the products. My favourite ice cream Soh (爽)changes flavours depending on the season. That's why my favourite mandarin flavoured one is available only during mandarin season :(
I was thinking the same thing. Almost every Japanese show I watch, anime or live action, fiction or not, centers on food. Food is integral. From Tampopo to Kantaro, 3-gats.u no Lion, to (especially) Gin no Saji. Food is the stuff of life.
You want me to do what??
GET THIS HAIKYUU PARTY STARTED BBY
From a narrative standpoint, Yachi is the outsider learning how to understand and enjoy volleyball in her own way. I think her introduction this season is very important to us because it gives us a little added distance from some of the characters. Instead of experiencing the story from the player's perspective, or a family member, or coach, which all have different emotional attachment, we get Yachi's perspective which is the closest to our own. For those of us who don't play volleyball, she offers us the truest experience. I'd be lying though if I said this whole series and coach Donnie didn't make me want to get out their and try this sometime!
Coach Donny is literally the reason why I'm still surviving my classes every week now
Honestly I always feel like suga is the mom, daichi is the dad, and bokuto is literally the perfect older brother of hinata
I'm a simple guy... i just want two things:
1- i want to see Coach shout HEY HEY HEY! after scoring a point on a real match.
2- i want to see Coach really get emotional watching Haikyuu.
I just want to take the time to appreciate Kageyama. He is known for being a genius right? Who is already good from the get go. But this, this episode shows how he is far from being a genius. He definitely works hard to be good at something. Given Yachis narration, the freak duo have not been talking for 3 weeks; meaning Kageyama has been practicing since then for a TOSS that will only be for him and HINATA's quick. He didnt even have the chance to practice with other players. Talk about dedication, hardwork, and consistency.
Kageyama is not just a genius guy.
I hope coach's good impression on bokuto lasts until the next episode aaaa i'm kinda nervous >
I'm sure he gonna love him just because he will look like one of his player
Another favourite episode! I really love the “growth” episodes and I especially love the way Bokuto and Kuroo adopted Hinata and Tsukki as if they were their own juniors. Hinata really rockets up a couple of levels here, plus we get to see how his relationships are just as important to his playing as his athletic skill. This episode is also one of the funniest because of the meat song and the way Akaashi (Bokuto’s setter and vice captain, one of my favourite characters) likes to quietly provoke Bokuto.
Your reactions give me so much joy Coach! Can’t wait to see you team up with Victoria Garrick again!!!
Just going to add that the exaggerated spin is an added detail to something I don't think coach Donny has quite caught on to yet. Kageyama's freak quick is a super quick set directly into Hinata's palm at the peak of his swing. That's what allowed for Hinata to hit it without looking. The problem with the set is that Hinata was left without any room to add anything else since it's basically Kageyama shooting a moving target (Hinata's hand). The new set that Kageyama is working on is based off of coach Ukai's suggestion that Kageyama improve the super quick set by allowing the ball to stop in mid-air. This may be unrealistic in terms of volleyball, but I think the idea is similar to a realistic technique in other sports like ping pong, tennis, baseball, billiards, etc. What Kageyama is attempting is kicking the ball out to Hinata's hand just like in the original super quick toss, but killing the momentum with a back spin. Since the toss is going out faster than a normal set, he has too try and kill the momentum with added back spin. That way the ball gets to Hinata's hand almost at the same time it would in the original freak quick attack, but stops momentarily allowing Hinata to manipulate the direction of the ball during his spike.
I've rewatched Haikyuu like... dozens of times but i've just realised that when Tanaka asks someone to wake Yamaguchi, the fact that he is still asleep when others've already woken up shows us that he practiced his serve so hard he couldn't feel anything in his sleep :')
P.S. Sorry for my English, i'm still learning~
Just wait until coach donny reacts to Bokuto's Emode
OMG! IM SO SCARED! I don’t want him to hate my bby :(((( hahahahaha
What you said about what Tsukki's older brother should've done make a lot of sense but we shouldn't forget that he's a high school student at the time. And Japanese. They care a LOT about what other people thinks about them.
The primary reason Hinata asked for Kenma to toss for him is precisely what Gramps Ukai taught him: being a better player by working with different setters to make him not dependent on Kageyama for everything.
At this point in time, Hinata has very little spiking technique, and the kind of toss that Kageyama is practicing gives total control of the ball during spikes to Hinata. That means that if Hinata does not get better with his technique, the new quick actually becomes worse because the one who controls the ball is now the less technical of the two. Just like you said before, Coach: Hinata needs to learn advanced techniques like the change of direction in order to be better at mid-air fights.
Also, the others girls are managers from the other schools.
Oh and, Coach, it is important you remember your statement about Bokuto reminding you about Tanaka. I'd like to hear your thoughts again on this matter in the subsequent seasons :)
some of my favourite Coach Donny moments are when he reads comments about hidden imagery and symbolism used in Haikyuu and gets his mind blown. Honestly I feel the same way too
"bokuto is kind of a refined version of Tanaka" - Coach Donny
I'll kelp tab of this comment made by coach, feel like this might come handy in the near future 😎🦉 #insane #rising
I never played competitive volleyball but in soccer I always treated my shoes the same way. It was as though walking on pavement was sacrilegious of the commitment you have towards the sport.
Also manga spoiler demon was raging a few times this episode, coach had incredible intuition lol
*Edit: commitment is a closer description than effort*
Tsukki is very slow and steady because he carefully considers everything. Unexpectedly, he's probably the most sensitive person on the team.
You can always rely on Haikyuu! to always have poetic meanings for everything. Also i noticed a long time ago that the team members have number neighbors. Hinata is neighbors with both Tsukki and Kageyama because Hinata's number is 10, Kageyama's is 9, and Tsukki's is 11. (edit)
When Victoria mentioned last Tuesday that she's gonna collab with someone who currently reacts to Haikyuu, my first guess is Coach Donny! 😄
I swear "oniku niku" is that one song that's stuck in every haikyu!! fans' head along with "baki baki"....and maybe hinata's bathroom song too
YES IM SO HAPPY, I SOMETIMES FORGET THAT THE REACTS ARE AT SATURDAY, BUT WHEN I SEE THE NOTIFICATION I GET SOOO HAPPY YESSS looking foward to the video, yoroshikun onegai shimassss
It’s so refreshing to see coach looks so happy while watching Haikyuu and to see him invested in the characters so much like we all are. I can’t wait for him to see every character development in Haikyuu!
Got me motivated to get up on a Saturday morning and see this when it came out! Great way to start the day! Another detail in Tsukki's development after the last episodes is that he seems to have chosen to keep showing up to the practices with Kurou and Bokuto, when before they were basically roping him in. Now he seems to consistently want to be there! :D
