Ireland and the Wild Atlantic Way. Episode 4 - Kilkee to Kenmare via the Gap of Dunloe

  • Arguably the most scenic day we had in Ireland, combining the stunning Cliffs of Kilkee, across the Shannon and through the Gap of Dunloe. The Gap seemed to be hosting a lot of drift cars doing burnouts, which did nothing to enhance the scenery, but made for an interesting ride!
In May 2024, my wife and I took a 1900 mile round trip to Ireland and down part of the Wild Atlantic Way on our motorbikes. It's the first time we've ever visited the Emerald Isle, and was a bit of a whistle stop tour as we only had 8 nights there.
This video is the fourth episode in a short series of how we got on. Hope you enjoy it!

Many thanks for your comment. We loved Ireland and the Irish people, and will certainly be back at some point to explore more, as 8 days for such a distance just didn't do it justice.

Glad you got some clear weather, and enjoyed the scenery!
Seriously twisty roads, I wouldn't like to have to walk out from the Gap to civilization!

Thank you for your comment. We were certainly very lucky with the weather. It would certainly be a hike to civilization from the gap!

Also I was wondering what bikes you were riding but, thankfully, you included that information in the video description.

I’ve enjoyed all of your vlogs lads, was born and raised in Colchester but for all of my sins I married an Irish woman and have now been living in Ireland for 15yrs,small narrow roads in which ye have been travelling on would be called Boreens here and its hard going for any motorcyclist regardless of experience, you both done exceptionally well,as for the lads doing donuts in their cars, well nearly all mountain roads like that will have tyre marks from the would be boy racers,as for the wild Atlantic way, you’ve definitely seen more than I have haha, although quite a few of the coastal villages etc you went through I’ve been too,I live inland so nearest coast to us is about an hour away oh and as for yarmo,I use to go there when I was a boy,mum and dad use to caravan at South Dene’s,not been there for 20yrs so no idea what it is like now

Thank you so much for your comment. As a beginner motovlogger it's taking me a while to edit, but I am enjoying the process and so glad that other people seem to enjoy them too.
I went to school in Colchester (the Gilberd when it was on North Hill), but lived up in Norfolk nearly 30 years, not too far from Yarmouth, so we know it well. I just wish we lived somewhere a little more hilly as we really enjoy Yorkshire, Scotland and now Ireland, but they are quite a trek from over here on the east.

Great content guys, love the way you are so relaxed not speeding through the route as many bikers do ....whats the road surface like generally looks lie a lot of gravel in places ...enjoy my beautiful country and stay safe

Thank you so much for your comment. As far as I'm concerned there is no point getting somewhere as fast as possible and not seeing anything. I'd much rather have a nice relaxed ride and take in the wonderful scenery.
To be fair, the roads were generally a lot better than most of the UK. Some of the smaller roads weren't as good, but nothing we're not used to over here. The only really dodgy bit was where they were resurfacing on the Sheep's Head peninsula. Now that was a bit sketchy!

    Ey up
Really enjoy your videos, not all biking but not all holiday snaps - a good balance
Got back from doing this coastline 3 weeks ago, only we did it clockwise. We had mixed weather, but didn’t reduce the stunning beauty of the landscape

Thank you for your kind comment. We were so lucky with the weather for sure. I think all the videos I have seen of the Gap of Dunloe must have been recorded at 5am, as I was not expecting the number of people or cars. Sue did really well as it's her first experience of narrow hairpins.

Outstanding bike management, Susan. I have some 50 years experience (and coincidentally a 1200 GT Explorer) - and I don’t think I would have enjoyed those conditions either. That said, such a gorgeous scenic route. The wild Atlantic way and NC500 are on the bucket list. Cheers. Mal in Australia.

Thank you so much for your comments, and I'll pass them on to Sue. As a novice rider, hairpins scare her, but she did very well under quite challenging circumstances. We loved the WAW but we also love the NC500 having done it a couple of times, but that was before I had cameras so i have a great excuse to do it again soon!

@GreyBiker99 The quality of your filming is fantastic, helped by the natural light Ireland. Sue as a novice did brilliant to conquer all that, this is turning out to be a cracking good watch😊

Thank you for your kind comment. We both have DJI Mic2's inside the chin bars of our helmets, which are connected via bluetooth to our DJI Osmo Action 4 cameras. It seems to be about the best arrangement I can come up with at the moment. It's a bit or a pain to sync them when editing, but it seems to work out ok.
