CROCK OF GOLD - A FEW ROUNDS WITH SHANE MACGOWAN deep dives into the life of the tortured Irish vocalist, best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the Pogues, who famously combined traditional Irish music with the visceral energy of punk rock. Featuring unseen archival footage from the band and MacGowan’s family, as well as animation from legendary illustrator Ralph Steadman, Julien Temple’s rollicking love letter spotlights the iconic frontman up to his 60th birthday celebration, where singers, movie stars and rock ’n’ roll outlaws gather to celebrate the man and his legacy.
Available everywhere December 4th.
Directed by Julien Temple

Today, world lost this creative madman. Whatever path you're on now, godspeed to you, Shane.
For anyone wondering this film is bloody amazing. I went into it having never heard of the Pogues or Shane. Came out a die hard fan.
The songs he writes have that immediate effect, if you can hear those songs and not immediately fall headfirst into Shane's world, you're probably not human!
I loved The Pogues when I was young in the early 90’s but haven’t listened them for ages. Yesterday was a sad day as Shane passed away so I watched this documentary to celebrate his life. I cried so many times, laughed so many times. What a life. What a wonderful, amazing, eventful life he got to live 💚
@@Prafik614hi there where did y watch the doc can y send me link
We are so grateful to share a time in this planet with people like Shane Mac Gowan. Forever grateful I flew all the way from Argentina to Washington DC to see The Pogues right before Philip passed away. Went with my brother who introduced me to The Pogues many many moons ago. We got drunk drinking russian beer. We danced, we jumped, we laughed and we cried
I have watched this 15 times already and can't stop putting in more comments as every time I am more and more excited
Couldn’t agree more
Retweet
Waiting for a Shane / Campino co-production.
Thank you for the music R.I.P. Shane 🇮🇪💚
Songs of sick beds, coffin ships, hot wiring Cadillacs, rainy nights, whores and horses, misty mornings, rusty tin cans and old Hurley balls, main drag, lullabies, broad majestic rivers, women wailing on the strand, this man can do it all. Shane Patrick Lysaght MacGowan is a pure genius and in my opinion, THE greatest songwriter ever. Makes me proud to be Irish. Whoever said don’t meet your heroes was wrong. Met him and loved him ten times more afterwards. A true son of Ireland 🇮🇪
R.I.P. Shane MacGowan.
Counting the days until this gets released. God bless Shane MacGowan
Rip Shane i will always love you great music
As a mexican, living in México, it was very difficult for me being able to watch this documentary. Today, I finally watched it online. Definitely an awesome piece of art: the way Shane's sister speak about his brother, and to hear from Shane himself the way in which the musical bussiness contributed to ruin his life. The pages of Hellblazer and Garth Ennis brought me to The Pogues's music and it has stayed with me along many of the darkest and joyeful moments of my life. It is kinda weird how the music of a faraway country can speak directly to the soul of people in another continent. Long life to Shane's legacy! PS. Sorry for my bad english, it ain't my first language.
Awesome dude respect from Dublin 🇮🇪🇲🇽
Bravo 👏
Where can i find it online? ...for free...
You're English is great, very well expressed mi amigo 🇲🇽🇮🇪
So proud that Shane managed to touch a soul all the way in Sunny Mexico. 🇮🇪☘️🫡

I saw the Pogues at Sammy’s Nightclub, Dunedin, New Zealand, I wonder if he remembers if he was ever there. It was a long time ago can’t remember much myself but who cares, to be able to say ‘I have seen the Pogues’ is enough 😇
R.I.P. LEGEND 💔
I'm 37 years old I can't remember a time in my life I haven't listened to the Shane and the pouges, we were brought up listening to them, finally got to see them about 9/10 years ago in Sydney, absolutely blew me away, not only is he the best song writer, the band are unbelievably talented musicians, I cannot wait for this ❤️❤️
Farewell, beautiful poet. ❤
Went in to it knowing very little about Shane and the Pogues. What an unforgettable watch! A Pair of Brown Eyes is a beautiful song
I‘ve seen the movie at Zurich Filmfest in a small theater with Johnny and Shane‘s wife walkin‘ in and saying a few words before it started. Pretty cool experience.
R.I.P. Legend
I haven’t been this excited for something in a while. Pogue Mahone to any dissenters.

Amazing story about an amazing man! Thanks Johnny for making this possible and for just being you!
Thank you Johnny for this and your friendship with Shane . You have immortalised the lyricist the poet and Shane's talent . Go raibh mîle maith agut A Cairde 🙏🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪. Bless you for being there at the end to lay Shane to Rest in Tipperary 🙏 🇮🇪☘️
I fist saw The Pogues at CBGBs in 1986 shortly after I graduated from uni and took a not so surreptitious trip to NYC to see friends and escape my failed marriage. Shane fell of the stage three times before the first half of their set was finished. I saw them again in Minneapolis in 1989, just after Hell’s Ditch came out a third time in 1993 during the Waiting for Herb tour, and a fourth time in Glasgow, Scotland during the Christmas tour in 2007. I was also the last time I saw them all before Philip’s passing six years later. Shane may be a piss drunk, but there’ll never be another one like him. I can’t wait to see this film.
CBGB'S what a place what a fucking place 😂 wild times were a must
This movie will make every other rock flick seem to be a kindergarten movie
Used to drive him around when he lived near oak village in London . A very nice fella .
You must have some stories to tell haha
@@robbiemontgomery581 apparently not
Lovely story. I especially loved how quickly the story ended before it began...
You'd know Dingwalls and the Devonshire Arms well then. Mad times. Best keeping some stories off UA-cam.
I was lucky that I saw Shane & The Popes in my hometown Ljubljana in 1998 and The Pogues in Zagreb back in 2011.
the legend Shane Macgowan.. thanks for everything😍💕
Next time somebody tells me music is just entertainment will play them this trailer. And if they don't agree, will just loudly tell them to FOOOOOOKOFF in true Shane tradition
Depp did a great job producing it. Also, It had been announced that he is going to work in the movie based on macgowan's life.
He's actually going to appear in the movie
@@tizyman7120 yeah he is going to play the older version.
Oh no that will be cringeworthy to watch if that's true, I can already imagine it.
Pure genius. Rip Shane
Think I might save this to watch on Christmas Day.
I'm watching it Christmas eve night

Holy shit I've got goosebumps, what a fucking legend. Can't wait to get a bottle of whiskey in and sit down and watch this.
That was heartwarming. Just saw it in the theater. and we'll all go together, to pull wild mountain thyme, all around the bloomin' heather

I was brought up on Poitin , Punk and Irish music from an early age , so when The Pogues arrived on the scene it was like a gift from God himself ! ; The trinity ( three in one !) He's up there with the great ones Gershwin , Cole Porter , Burt Baccarach and Hal David , Bob Dylan , Lennon & MacCartney ....... Shane MacGowan - Legend ! :) Go raibh mile' maitha agat Shane agus go mbere muid beo ar' an amseo aris ! xx
This man is a fucking legend 💚🇮🇪
Shane is four months older than I am. I've told my relatives that if I should die before him, I would like my marker to read:
"I can't believe that Shane MacGowan lived longer than I did!"
You win!
Brilliant 👏👏😊😊
I’ve news for you, Shane will live forever. 😉🇮🇪
Between this and the Zappa documentary I've a few to look forward to finally

I don’t think anyone writes better lyrics than Shane MacGowan - bono

@@illaveyoubutler3588 Shane McGowan always thinking of others 🙂
Just bought and watched the DVD. Gotta say it far exceeded my expectations, by far the best docu I have seen in awhile. I am buying it now also for my mum, her family hails from Tipperary. I hadn't been aware of Shane's huge contribution to Irish culture and music, which I love so much. Well done to Johnny D and good friends, I hope they do more projects like this (Minamata movie also wonderful). Cheers.
Fantastic documentary!!
“Actually, we’re better when we’re sober, but it’s not as much fun so we get drunk.”
I'll vote for that
Can't wait to see this!
He burned the candle at both ends far worse than any other musician I can think off but is still here. The Irish liver is made of leather.
It's better to burn out, than to fade away

A good crockumentary.
Why am I just learning about this?!?!?
You need to stop drinking!
Beautiful.~♥~
There is a song played twice in this film (one of Shane's). First, in the early sequences before the MacGowan's move to London, and again just a few minutes before the end credits. Uptempo and joyous. Dying to know what it is, and I wasn't able to pick it out in the credits.
I can't tell which song you mean, but "Broad Majestic Shannon" isn't in the credits and it was played early on. It's one of the Pogues most uplifting songs, but ironically it's about him reassuring someone on her deathbed that all the pain she's had to live through will be over after she dies, and it ends with him after she's died walking home through places they used to walk together.
@@stcmww5056 That's it! Great song, brilliantly used in the film.
I 💘 it😍🤗😘
Looks Fantastic!
I need to see this
I saw the movie, it's good. Shane MacGowan is genuinely insane I think
Though there are things that they didn't really explore, like his time with the Popes and making two albums with them, his life basically from 1994-2015 or why he's been in a wheelchair
I think he had a stroke?
@@ThePogue95 Nah he fell really hard and basically shattered his pelvis, like I know why but for people that don't it would have been good to at least explain that
good music, thanx johnny
I fucken love Shane.
This looks fucking amazing!!
amazing
Sounded good speaking with a London accent right at the end.
A vast improvement.
When he was younger he reminded me of bob dylan a little bit
Still the best.

Wow.
