Sad to see Shane in this state, one of the most iconic singer songwriters of a generation. I first saw The Pogues in the early 80's. It's at this point that you know that something more profound, more tragic and desperate is happening with the guy at the mic. He's gone way beyond having a good time and getting wasted with the band... There's lonely, sad drunkenness, and the guy so desperately needed someone, anyone to just say ...stop. 'Stop, Shane, and I'll help you.' Those words could have changed his life forever, but he never seemed to ever hear them. May we all learn something about alcoholism, Shane, and ourselves from watching this mans desperation in public that he lived for so many years. Rest in Peace dear beautiful Shane. How do figure? Because he's drunk as a monkey? These songs that he's "singing" are amazing songs! It’s like he’s so f*cked up that he thinks, in his own head, that he’s doing great….but at the same time, if he is or isn’t, he’s totally oblivious to it, or that there’s any problem….i never did much in the way of pills, or opiates, or narcotics, but I drank like a whale, & I’ve had moments, and I think I’ve been drunk and f*cked up enuf to comprehend this madness…..wow tho, Shane was f’n brilliant, and a trooper…..and yeah, like someone said, they must’ve had HEAVY contractual pressure for the popes to put him onstage like that, I mean, it was his band, I assume he was in total control, unlike the pogues where there was much more democratic opposition to Shane’s whims ….at times anyway.
Ok…I had to read thru the comments to get some inking of what he was on…..Dutch hash cakes, all eaten at once for breakfast? Liquor infused with mushrooms? …..and not pills, or whatever….both of those stories make sense also, of course…..good lord, poor guy, Jesus.

I just put this on to remind myself of how absolutely and undoubtedly shite they were. My celtic supporting pals played their crap and got drunk, they never ever listened to them sober, ever, you still won't get anyone walking about with ghd pogues on in their earphones for example because they're shite- it's all about claiming you belong to Ireland and letting everyone hear it even though it is shite- the pogues themselves summed up in a sentence.

@@Riccoassennl Much Appreciated, Thank You!
Looked like he was having a fit or something,
RIP shane macgowan
great
Am i high? Why the hell i didnt understand a sing word
Classic
Hard to watch. Poor guy.
Hard to believe he's still with us
Hard to watch ? He choose to drink and take drugs. That s disrespect for the rest oh the band
интересно, кобейн тоже стал бы таким если?
This is fucking GREAT!!!
No it's not
How do figure? Because he's drunk as a monkey? These songs that he's "singing" are amazing songs! And he wrote most of them himself, but still can't remember any of the lyrics...This is a shameful embarrassment! Man...take a listen to the albums "Red Roses For Me" or "Rum Sodomy and the Lash"...or "If I Should Fall from Grace with God"! Their brilliant albums full of brilliant songs - energetic as all hell!! Bottled fire and brimstone, vulgar and traditional and beautiful and violent and horribly sad and terribly lovely at the same time!
But this sir, this is NOT fucking great, I'm afraid.
I hear you. It's sad and embarrassing. Shane wrote some of the greatest Irish music ever and yet, here the man is...live (barely) and in person (again, barely). I don't get how anyone could see/listen to this atrocity and figure, "it's great".@@jeroencaluwe7828
I can only imagine what he ingested.
It was a hash cake. Too strong he got paranoid and wanted to go home. He often performed on an empty stomach, why he was soo thin back then, also a vegetarian. The hash cake made him feel terribly hungry and paranoid. He was great guy thru and thru
Il était défoncés à l'hero..
Christ a life, never seen this before but how depressing.......
What an absolute racket, im sorry but thank god for the band that covered the fact he's absolutely off his face, so very sad, shouldn't of been on the stage in that state!
Probably thought being on stage would sober him up but he just got worse!! Must've had a massive sip just before going up!!
Omg what is that for
Junkie😂😂
More cowbell !!!
I love the Pogues and Niel Diamond...but that Cracklin Rose is both unexpected and not very good at all. Sad to say..but RIP Shane, writer of some of the most exquisite songs I know.
This is The Popes not The Pogues. He was fired from The Pogues in 91.
This is The Popes - not Pogues!
Shane Mcgowan the king
The Netherlands can do that to best of them. Beware the pot brownie haha. 🙏❤ SM
I just put this on to remind myself of how absolutely and undoubtedly shite they were. My celtic supporting pals played their crap and got drunk, they never ever listened to them sober, ever, you still won't get anyone walking about with ghd pogues on in their earphones for example because they're shite- it's all about claiming you belong to Ireland and letting everyone hear it even though it is shite- the pogues themselves summed up in a sentence.
this is The Popes, not The Pogues
They all tryin to look cool with sun glasses on but Shane is the only cool one of them all
Shane is FUBAR and nobody cares, don't glorify his drug abuse.
I was there
love macgowans songs....but this is so sad....makes elvis's last gigs look like broadway....mumbling cabbage...didnt even know that cigarette burned through both his knuckles....RIP Shane
He's still alive!
@@hwgavin tell him that
@@shavedmonkey9821 Mumbling cabbage... this had me in stitches hahaha.. I agree, tell him that!
lol, he's still recording! This is just a bad show. Like how snl or the simpsons has a bad show. I've seen him live 12 times and this tour and the next, he looked like he was gonna die. I think it might have been a brilliant marketing gimmick, tho, bc I always went to see him play live bc I thought he was gonna die soon. Now, we're both still here 24 years later
Elvis’s last shows still had “Elvis Moments” of amazing performance but this was so sad to me. I’m not a Shane hater I love him very very much but this was rough man.
How can' alcohol destroy a men.😩
Oh man, what a Shane!!
During the nineties shane was a shadow of himself...
The popes were not very good and him was not concerned about music and live performance .
The pogues's come back few years later wa s most interesting and not fulll ofcindignity like this performance
It's painful to watch... so sad :(
3:24…the drummer KNOWS this show is going nowhere
NOT the Pogues. its the popes get it right
