His songs are pure genius, but so much more complex than songs by bands that The Beach Boys are typically compared with, like The Beatles and Bee Gees. Unfortunately his cousin Mike Love didn't get it, his father didn't get it, and the record company preferred the car/surf songs from the early sixties. the early stuff was genius too- Surfer Girl, Warmth of the Sun, Kiss Me Baby, Please Let Me Wonder, I Get Around....all of it.
