Amazing concept, maybe you could make heavy smellers like the sniffer and warden affected more strongly by the scent. Like the warden's aggression level increasing faster with unpleasent scents and attracted to more pleasent ones (I think that's already in the game with candles and poppies tho) or the sniffer being more agitated and worse at their job around bad smells. Maybe you could add bad/good smelling biomes? Like the mushroom island smelling more terrible and the flower forest smelling more amazing etc.

Yeah I was going to say that, also, villagers can probably smell, because why else would they evolve noses like that?

You could add an item to block smell, something the player can wear in the helmet slot
