It’s good to watch someone training a dog who isn’t already perfect! I’m tired of watching UA-cam videos of dogs which are already doing exactly what the trainer wants rather than being shown the techniques in action with a dog which is new to it all.
Agreed. But the challenge is the amount of time it takes to get to the end result. It's a tedious, often frustrating process and nobody has, or wants to spend time on, the 47 hours to watch the failures that lead to the success.
It's really good to see the occasional bigger dog being worked with, it's one thing to have a small dog jumping, but a big dog jumping and pushing a person all around is a lot more intimidating. Love the videos, and excited to learn about a new raw treat to try!
THIS is the dog jumping video I needed. My dog is like Zeus in his actions and also in his attention to the treats. Being disabled it has been a challenge, your videos have helped.
Zak I honestly can’t thank you enough but you’re ABSOLUTELY amazing. I taught my 14 week mini aussie to sit, down, stand, leave it, come, drop it, jump, free, touch, roll over, paw and so much more. When I watch your videos, it makes sense with the logic you apply to the dogs and I use your way of teaching to train my puppy. Your logic works on my little pupper and whenever I get stuck and ask myself, “Hmm, how do I stop my puppy jumping on people?” I go to your videos and apply it! I’m sure you trained hundreds of dogs and puppies and I appreciate your videos because they are so helpful. Especially when I first got my puppy at 8 weeks, there were so much to learn like crate training, potty, and etc. A lot of owners get overwhelmed and luckily your videos are a life saviour! Anyways, I will be applying this method for my puppy to not jump on others!
@@julieexcs8437 I say “free” which is my dogs release word! So for example if I put food down for my dog to eat, I don’t want him to eat when he wants but waits for me to say the release word, which I say “free”. So basically it’s a word that means to him kind of like “go ahead”. You can use any word as a release word but I use a word that is not used too much in my daily routine. If my release word was “ok” my dog may get confused because if he is around me when I am talking to someone and I use that word a lot. Hope that makes sense!
Zak your information is helping me more than you could imagine. :) I've always wanted my own dog, but with my anxiety problems, I was terrified about not doing things right. So, I'd be totally lost without your videos, we just got our very first puppy yesterday, and I feel great about our training so far because of your instructions and principles, she's responding so well to it all, I'm so proud, and I know I'm doing everything the best I can, to my ability! it puts my mind at ease. Thank you SO MUCH for all you do for the dogs in this world!! I had to become a patron for all your help! I've been sharing your stuff to everyone around me too!
I am getting a beagle puppy and I'm trying to watch all of your videos. I gotta say, you are the best dog trainer I have ever seen! The way you teach dogs is amazing and I feel confident that my puppy will get off on the right foot by using your training methods! Postive training makes the dog and the trainer happy; you see a lot more improvement this way too. It really does address the root of the problem. I think everyone should know about you, you make the world of dogs a better place! Thank You Zak!
The best tip that Zak George taught me was to NOT have your guests train your dogs to not jump. YOU have to intervene. Changed my dogs experience with guests. So many other dog trainers say to teach your guests how to respond to your dogs. Ignore bad behavior and reward good behavior. At first I would have my guests do that but my dogs still jumped. Since watching Zak George's video on this I interrupt my dogs jumping on guests and they have been able to calm themselves much faster in order to greet guests. Thanks!!!!
Zak George's Dog Training rEvolution i have a 3 month old german sheppard girl and she is really stubborn ..the first thing i tought her was sit and now she only sits when i try to teach her anything else..what do i do?
Went through this jumping up problem for months, now that I've taken charge by George's advice much less of a problem. Honey my 9mo yellow lab had some worse issues, fear and aggressive responses to over stimulation ie. jumping up and attacking and biting me. If I act immediately with methods that George has taught, no blood drawn.
Do you want to know how training my dog WITHOUT my guests help worked? I always corrected my dog when she jumped on my friends at the door and she listened (when I'm there) which took intense amount of training as her excitement made her look like she would rip through her skin from the sit position just so she can jump on people. There was a time I went to the toilet after 10 minutes of chatting when my friend arrived (initial excitement gone huh?). My dog waited until I went to the toilet then jumped all over my friend while I was gone. My GSD wants to jump on people so bad she will wait until I'm gone so she won't get told not to by me as she knows no one else will correct her. I needed my guests to be more cooperative. Now after a year of trying to establish good door manners, I've given up as she still can't control herself without me telling her not to jump. I now tell anyone who comes over, either deal with her jumping on you or YOU tell her not to. It's all of you that are the problem for encouraging her so why should I waste time and effort training her and stopping her from being her happy, excited self.
I have to say, I've been visiting a shelter dog that I want to adopt soon and he jumps a LOT. I watched a ton of these videos this week, and today I used some of the techniques and they worked immediately.... This guy is a wizard!
We just adopted our shepherd mix today and he is a jumper. Now time to go take these tips to begin his training. Thank you , I just love your approach with a mix of gentle and firm.
This video is great. I just adopted a 1 year old German Shepard and he is really bad about jumping on everyone and I have no skills or experience training at all, especially not a 80lb dog so these videos are the best thing in the world right now! Thank you! Keep making big-dog videos!!
1st video that put all the responsibility on the owner. I have watched videos that teach you how to make the guests behave. Unfortunately,, the guests haven't seen any videos, so they behave inappropriately for helping the dog not to jump. I'm so glad to feel free on that and to just keep on working on sit and stay!
He’s adorable alright, But way too intense for a dog his size. Dogs have to have boundaries, and know how to respect others space instead of jumping every time they see a new or familiar face.
That was too funny between the excited dog & what Zac was saying, like: "Don't bite my ankles dude", Lol! Love your videos! I have a small dog & your techniques work great! Thanks so much!
Hey Zak! I've seen a lot of your videos, but I think this one was the best! Me and my father have 3 english setter dogs and face the same problem with the youngest one, she's a really hyper dog...your video was great help and I loved Zeus! Keep up with the good work and advices! :)
Been following your channel since I got my dog , and I’m impressed Everytime . Never saw this video . We need to touch up these in public so nice having a place to start . Thank you for sharing and educating !!
I love your videos because they are like this one: it's clear that the dog is not trained, and you show some of the patience the owner has to have to train their dog. I watched one of your sit/stay videos with a small puppy, and I began to understand your philosophy. Very nice one! I also like that you're realistic. For instance, here you're saying what are the issues behind the dog's jumping. Those are the ones that need to be addressed, not the dog. Same for your potty training videos. They made me understand that I have to be patient. Thanks a lot!
Oh yeah? Looks mighty like a German Shepherd to me tho. I know what Zak said and it might be true, but doesn't mean he (Zeus) couldn't at least be mistaken for a German Shepherd. (This is how you spell it btw. Just trying to be helpful, so please don't feel attacked)
Asta453 Yeah he's def just a longhair GSD. The only two longhaired Belgian Shepherds are Belgian Tervurens and Belgian Groenendaels (often called Belgian Shepherds in the US) neither of whom look anything like a GSD. Cute pup though!
I will begin practicing this soon. I have a 1.5 year Pitbull rescue and she is very hyper and gets over the top excited when we come home and at night at bedtime. She learned to sit and lay within a day. I am currently working on stay and look at me. She gets a little territorial when we have visitors and very jealous if I show attention to my cats (3 - rescues as well). I made progress the last time I had a visitor by having them walk in and not make eye contact and ignoring her. She did great. Your videos have been very helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
thank you so much for making these videos. We adopted Teddy a 9mo Romanian street dog from a local shelter 4 days ago and your videos have been invaluable to us. We will be buying your book as soon as possible. thanks again
Love to see this dog! My GSP is hyper and wild. She is able to jump 6 feet. I think she may be part kangaroo. Your other videos are good but those dogs look good (comparatively) even before training. This dog is much more like what I am dealing with. Wilder than Zeus but smaller thankfully.
I'm getting a dog in 6 days and I've been watching your videos to prepare! I really think your tips will make it a lot of things easier, thank you so much!
Your training sessions are awesome. I have this problem with my two puppies when they haven't see me for hours but after a while they act more gentle. Please teach us about guard dogs training and also tell us about how to teach puppies to stand relax when I separate them. Tnx a lot
My German shepherd too is the same. Full of energy. Does the same. Still in the process of training him to control his energy. He is a good learner. U have nice dog.
I really needed this video today. After weeks of STAR Puppy training, it feels like my puppy is always regressing. This gave me a new way to engage with her and she really responded well. Thanks Zak!!
Hey Zak! We just got a new dog, if you're ever around Tampa Fl we would love to do a video with you! I've been watching all your videos lately, they are a great help.
This was IMMENSELY helpful! Thank you so much! I have a German Shepherd and he is very playful and full of life and energy(he's 2) so jumping is a huge issue.
Thankyou so much, my dog constantly jumps, he is a rescue who is wild, not house trained, nips, and he can't be left alone in the house by himself. This helped with his jumping, thanyou!
so... this fixed the jumping? I dont think so. Any training knows that if that family left rhe house and came back in 20 mins that dog would stull be jumping. redirecting a dog attention does not teach a dog a dog to make a decision to not do a behavior. just cause the dog calmed down and he reinforced a "leave it" is not going to stop a self rewarding behavior like jumping. I used to really like Zak videos years ago, but now as a trainer I see that it seems that nothing is ever finished.
Same!! My girl is 5 months and I’m scared bc she’s already jumping on me and she’s so strong, I don’t want her to be full grown and knocking me over lol! She knows sit, paw, touch (touches her nose to my hand) she kinda gets stay, but my biggest things right now are no biting and jumping. It’s so difficult, do u have any suggestions?
Yeah, I think we’re going to put her in puppy training. She can’t be jumping on people and other dogs. I love her but the biting has got to stop😂 and when I scream ouch, she gets excited and starts biting more, I think she thinks I’m a chew toy LOL!
The best thing I did with my girl was to not yelp or anything. I simply placed my hand on her muzzle and when she’d bite my hand her lip would be gently pressed on her tooth. So basically biting mommy hurts you. There was no sharp no or anything it was a natural correction. The idea that boring hands = biting me and ouchie. Not hard enough to really hurt just enough for her to be like hmmmmm
I am absolutely loving seeing more "imperfect" examples when showcasing how to train a dog. It's great for people who are struggling with the same thing to see an example dog having a little bit of trouble at first, and I really enjoy the encouragement of changing up what you might need to actually help teach the dog in order to get the behavior that you're looking for! I shared this video with a dog training student of mine struggling with jumping behaviors, and I think they'll get a lot out of this!
This was really helpful, thankyou so much. My husky boy is pretty big now at 7 months and always jumps up on people and dogs, especially at his obedience classes where he’s so excited by all the dogs and people.
If someone is spending a lot of time with a new dog trying to train them, that adds up to a lot of treats, several times a day. So, that presents potential problems with weight and with them being food-obsessed. And what if you're out and about and don't have treats? Do you ignore the behavior til you can run to a store to get the treats?
Kim N He also works with dogs who are more toy-attracted. He talks about “finding your dog’s currency” and uses very small bits of lean meats, especially with young pups. If you have your dog in public and he/she is still working on training, you will want to be prepared with a few treats or a toy!
One... use their meal instead of treats.... two.... wean them off the treats and only use them intermittently so you dont need them on you all the time. Congratulations youve now graduated the “how do i use my brain course”
I'm sorry, but for the first three minutes of this video, you were advertising treats...but this explains why: '...I really agree with you that good treats at the beginning help get his attention and you get the message through I am so proud to be a tiny sponsor of your GREAT work'. Come on Zak.
We just adopted a 4 month old shelter dog and one of his challenges is that he gets excited and jumps on his mommy when she walks by him through a room in our house or when she walks outside if he hasn't seen her in a little while. I thought of the sit and stay as a suitable training solution to the issue, then i watched this video and now know that I'm on the correct path! He does quite well with the sit and stay so we have half of the work already done. Thanks again!
I'm getting a new puppy this Friday, and I'm gonna need all the training/caring info I can get. Thanks Zak George for these amazing and helpful videos :)
Yes horses and dogs need your trust. Dogs need that extra assurance that you're the alpha that's going to lead the pack. Like with horses you have to set the rules. You can't play a game if you don't know the rules.
The key is teaching your dog to stay around things that excite them. Most people wait until they're in a situation where their dog is excited to then try to train (not a good strategy). Set up exciting scenarios frequently and in unpredictable ways during the first year of training.
Zak George's Dog Training rEvolution hi I have a 2 and a half year old bullmastiff male and he always does this with certain guests (mostly female ) he's really big and over powering could he be doing this to be intimidating? he's not really majorly high energy just at certain times he can be. please help :( i love ur videos and think u do great work btw :)
@@zakgeorge Thank you Zak.. I am really enjoying these training sessions with my new puppy. And I think she is enjoying it too! So happy you have this great info.
I wish you were in Australia!! I just adopted a pound puppy and he is beautiful but he is big and energetic and jumps and get super wound up!! The kong tips you teach have helped a ton and this video is amazing!!
Yep. I gave up waiting for him to get to the point. So many close-ups and references to the bloody treats. Never watching any training videos from this person again.
Uh, well he provides all these training videos for free. UA-cam and ads like those pay him for advertising. He's a great dog trainer so why dont you have a bit of patience or just skip ahead in the video?? 🙄
I have a german shepherd pit mix. she tries to jump on people but because she's more bulky she's much slower... but I'm definitely thankful for you and this video!
I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS SO MUCH. the reason i started watching was because i wanted to own one in the future and after studying your videos, it makes someone want to become a dog trainer. haha! your explanations are so awesome. I even favorited a few of them. In pretty much all of your videos you mention sit and stay and i've come to the conclusion that it's the most basic and important training in order to build communication and behavior control.
@@didyoujust7810 No, I'm a first-time watcher and I expect instruction LONG before that. Good way to turn viewers who want INSTRUCTION, off. And they leave, like me, now.
Zeus reminds me a lot of my own dog Clemmy. She is a mix of German Shepherd, Border Collie and Staffordshire Bull Terrier and at three years old has only just begun to quieten down a bit. She has the same tendency as Zeus to get really overexcited quickly. We play a lot of games that make her use her mind such as hide and seek and they really help. All of the advice given by ZaK and my local dog training centre, who use the same methods as Zac, are helping but we did not begin well, and are having to undo some damage we did by allowing bad behaviour and not understanding how nervous and intelligent she was/is. just assuming that because we have always had dogs we knew what we were doing, we failed to realise that all dogs are not created the same: we are having to unlearn old training ideas and relearn new ones as we go. Anyway thanks for these videos Zak - they are wonderful.
I always watch your videos. But Ive watched them all so I went on a search to find more channels with dog training. And they all used force or even punishment to teach their dogs. So I'm back. And I will never leave again.
Hey zak i need help . My dog is such a sweet dog but it's near impossible to teach him things like fetch , when i get him excited with a toy then throw it a meter or two away he takes it then runs away and if i try to get it back he gets territorial and growls at me or anyone that tries to do the same . Please help . I really want to be able to play with Rocky . And i know he would love to play fetch for he will run around with the toy in his mouth. Thanks
If you want to do this positively, start slow and restrict your dog from running too far away. You can either do this in a small room like a bathroom or have your dog on a leash or long line leash. Toss the tennis ball and allow your dog to get it (he should be close enough where you do not have to play the chase game). Once he has it you can do one of two things. One option would be to use another tennis ball and playfully lure your dog away from the first tennis ball. If your dog complies, say "yes" excitedly and throw ball #2. And you can interchange between balls. Having your dog restricted means he cannot run off with the ball. This will teach him better that you throwing the ball is the source of fun and "fetch" should click in his mind. The second option is to use a treat to lure your dog away from the ball. When you dog goes for the treat and leaves the ball consistently, say "leave it" and he should leave the ball alone once he gets the hang of it so you can get it before throwing again. If he has the ball in his mouth, you can do the same thing with another ball or treat and say "out" to get him to drop the toy for the reward and then you can continue to play fetch. The trick to this is not allowing him much room to get away with the ball and giving him something of equal value or better to get him to leave the ball so you can throw it again. Once he gets the hang of fetch, you can gradually expand the distance so he can start to have more fun fetching. If he starts the same bad ball hogging habit again, take a step back, and start over with your fetch training.
Oh I'm so happy you did this video!! In a past video I commented on how to train a large puppy to stop jumping and boom you did the video!! Even with the same dog I have! Great video; will definitely be using it on him soon!

I'm getting a dog in 6 days and I've been watching your videos to prepare! I really think your tips will make it a lot of things easier, thank you so much!
"Now he's just got a normal life in the suburbs!" hahahahahaha
Really appriciate that you are using a high energy dog and even more so that it's pre exercise. Really shows your skill.
Your training sessions are awesome. I have this problem with my two puppies when they haven't see me for hours but after a while they act more gentle.
Please teach us about guard dogs training and also tell us about how to teach puppies to stand relax when I separate them.
Tnx a lot
Finally a video that actually makes sense to me thank you so much. It's hard finding a video with a dog as hyper as my GSD 🖤
This is really god Damn impressive... bought your book, love it!
My German shepherd too is the same. Full of energy. Does the same. Still in the process of training him to control his energy. He is a good learner. U have nice dog.
love this channel i managed to train my german shepherd since a puppy to adult ^^ and i love those treats! definitely buying them for my dog to try =)

The dog is super energetic type of herding dog a very pretty dog and as usual Zak is doing a great job handling him.
This sounded more like an advertizment then a how to train your dog
Zac George is great. I agree there's always a push to buy something
This was IMMENSELY helpful! Thank you so much! I have a German Shepherd and he is very playful and full of life and energy(he's 2) so jumping is a huge issue.
This made me wonder...
Do dogs bite their own tongue? (Like as people do)
Their jaws are so strong and their tongues are so thin until you reach the center...
Must be super painful if they do.
WolfieTheQueen yes. my late boxer bit his tongue once when eating. He yelped. It took me for ever to figure out what happened.
Jen Harper oh wow. lol I had no idea. Thanks for the fact :D
WolfieTheQueen I
Now you made me wonder this
Thankyou so much, my dog constantly jumps, he is a rescue who is wild, not house trained, nips, and he can't be left alone in the house by himself. This helped with his jumping, thanyou!
The dogs treats are better then what I get to eat for dinner
🤣
I have always had German Shepherds. LOVE, LOVE THEM, MY LAST ONE, GRETA, LIVED FOR SIXTEEN YEARS. MISS HER.
who all are watching the video but not having a dog??
Varsha Lokhande me😞😥
Varsha Lokhande me :/
Watching for my grandmother's dog right now.
so... this fixed the jumping? I dont think so. Any training knows that if that family left rhe house and came back in 20 mins that dog would stull be jumping. redirecting a dog attention does not teach a dog a dog to make a decision to not do a behavior. just cause the dog calmed down and he reinforced a "leave it" is not going to stop a self rewarding behavior like jumping. I used to really like Zak videos years ago, but now as a trainer I see that it seems that nothing is ever finished.
You do realize this is just an option and also doesn't show the months of practise it requires?
Aww. My favorite! Yes they can be a handful but very good tricks to teach the most loyal dog
German shepherd = Landshark
Joanna Ciaputa i have one, 5 months and yes! bites everything! 😖😖😖
Just found this channel and I love it! Just subscribed. Thank you so much!
I'd like some training tips to be added to the advertisement for treats...
You are so entertaining AND INFORMATIVE! Thanks!
This video was so funny and educational "you making me look bad" haha
I am absolutely loving seeing more "imperfect" examples when showcasing how to train a dog. It's great for people who are struggling with the same thing to see an example dog having a little bit of trouble at first, and I really enjoy the encouragement of changing up what you might need to actually help teach the dog in order to get the behavior that you're looking for! I shared this video with a dog training student of mine struggling with jumping behaviors, and I think they'll get a lot out of this!
My friend's dogs jump all over me whenever I go to visit. I'll forward this video to her.
This was really helpful, thankyou so much. My husky boy is pretty big now at 7 months and always jumps up on people and dogs, especially at his obedience classes where he’s so excited by all the dogs and people.
"He needs some impulse control......... A LOT of it..." 😂
Zak I'm learning so much!! Thank you! And Zeus is so beautiful!!
his dance moves are halarious
I wish you were in NYC to help with my Dober puppy . I LOVE LOVE LOVE YOUR VIDEOS .
Great video! Thanks
I love Zak George he’s the best dog trainer i’ve ever seen
I'm sorry, but for the first three minutes of this video, you were advertising treats...but this explains why: '...I really agree with you that good treats at the beginning help get his attention and you get the message through
I am so proud to be a tiny sponsor of your GREAT work'. Come on Zak.
I'd probably shit myself if i heard a bark like that running for me. Jeez. But beautiful
I think this is my favorite video so far. Zeus is hilarious. It's nice seeing Zak get pushed around a bit. 🤣
Zeus
I miss Romanatwoods German Shepherd
ASH-FIFA MOBILE omg yes 😂😢
ASH-FIFA MOBILE omg I thought the same
The Scamer no, he wouldn't. They were crying for a couple days and the vet has the proof and also, Zeus isn't that excited
ASH-FIFA MOBILE same bro same.
ASH-FIFA MOBILE me to
I hope you hit one million subs,Zak!
Finally a german Shepard
Xalysix this is a Belgian
This is clearly a German. Belgians don't look like that, they are thinner and have a different color.
Belgian shepherds are way skinnier
Xalysix it’s a Belgian shepherd he said at the start
Sköll, the Sun pursuer he said it’s a Belgian 😂🙄
We just adopted a 4 month old shelter dog and one of his challenges is that he gets excited and jumps on his mommy when she walks by him through a room in our house or when she walks outside if he hasn't seen her in a little while. I thought of the sit and stay as a suitable training solution to the issue, then i watched this video and now know that I'm on the correct path! He does quite well with the sit and stay so we have half of the work already done.
Thanks again!
/getting smothered by the dog
"I hope."
that was great lmao
I'm getting a new puppy this Friday, and I'm gonna need all the training/caring info I can get. Thanks Zak George for these amazing and helpful videos :)
I spent most of my life training horses, the secret to training them is to get their trust, I suspect its the same for dogs
Yes horses and dogs need your trust. Dogs need that extra assurance that you're the alpha that's going to lead the pack. Like with horses you have to set the rules. You can't play a game if you don't know the rules.
I love the way Zak is with animals.
So that's it? Just teach them stay? Because my Weimaraner puppy jumps just like Zeuss and it feels like it can't be controlled.
Marie T a friend had a simular issue with his weim puppy, the stay method really helped! So did plenty of regular exercise
@@zakgeorge Thank you Zak.. I am really enjoying these training sessions with my new puppy. And I think she is enjoying it too! So happy you have this great info.
Well... did you try this?
I wish you were in Australia!!
I just adopted a pound puppy and he is beautiful but he is big and energetic and jumps and get super wound up!!
The kong tips you teach have helped a ton and this video is amazing!!
Keep the adverts to the end. Got half way through and he STILL hadn't started on preventing the dog from jumping. Get. To. The. Point.
If you don't have patience for a UA-cam video you won't have patience for a dog
Gotstolen I thought so too
My german Shepherd is just like him!!!! So much energy! Thanks for the video going to try this out with my boy
Only problems: He is encouraging the jumping at the beginning of the video by petting him, and also not correcting it.
I have a german shepherd pit mix. she tries to jump on people but because she's more bulky she's much slower... but I'm definitely thankful for you and this video!
I love how he doesnt really explain how to stop him from jumping
He literally explains the whole thing. You just weren't listening.
This is a commercial and not very informative for me.
JTron83 - Everyone isn’t the same. There is a lot of great information on this video.
Zak, you are training the dogs and teaching us. Thanks.
Dude you have 3 minute intro on a 8 min video...
Have some patience or skip ahead then??
Give him a break he’s giving one of the best and easiest tutorial for free

He looks more like a German Shepherd not a Belgian Shepherd
It is a German shepherd
@@mrsgamer9181 oh yeah you stupid 0:22
I always watch your videos. But Ive watched them all so I went on a search to find more channels with dog training. And they all used force or even punishment to teach their dogs. So I'm back. And I will never leave again.
4:51 😂😂😂😂 OMG ZAK UR TOOOOOO FUNNY
Good Job with Zeus. What a beautiful dog. Glad he's got you to train him.
I have a Blue Heeler and jumping is one of his favorite things to do. This was super helpful. Thank you!
