reverse engineering the industry standard is always fun and educational...so...up to u! The brown on her hair was interesting saturation wise, but it was probably under direct light. Tyyyyy...by the time I can afford my. C70 we will be lightning fast with the menu settings💎💎💎📷📸🤙🏽
That final graded result in direct sunlight looks great! That’s why I still haven’t canceled my pre-order 😂 I would say maybe don’t linger so long on the ungraded clip the second time around. Other than that, really like the video!
that may be worth testing. I don't know how far off someone might mistakenly set the wrong white balance but it would be interesting to see how much can be saved if we had to "fix it in post"
I have always been Canon, but during the turbulent R5 wars upon release, I toyed with the idea of switching to Sony. The C70 looks beautiful and best suits the work I do. The cinema features are worth the money to me. I always tune into your channel. Carlos, thanks for your demonstrations.
@@carlosq00 How accurate is the c70 false color for overexposing? Was doing some test footage today and I noticed a patch of grass was shot tiny specks of red, but for the most part not red (according to false color). When I brought it in post, it looked super clipped! Then again I used the canon lut....so I'm not sure if it's the luts or the false color that lead to the footage clipping!
Body only is €5500 and a 28-70 Is 2.8 costs another €2500, so it needs 8k just to get started with one good zoom lens, plus batteries and possibly the speedboster adapter which will take another 700 euros or so, so basically you need 9k euros to start working with this beast. What are the alternatives for the money? Sony fx6?
Blown backgrounds is practiced religously in great cinema. This is not up for debate. Highlight rolloff is much more important than dynamic range as protecting your highlights is not something the great DPs ever worried about. As long as the image looks pleasing and the rolloff is smooth then you’re good to go.
Merci beaucoup, et oui tu as parfaitement raison, pas besoin de RAW, même si la c70 est maintenant capable d'en faire, vive les fausse couleur et vive la c70 !!! ;)
Carlos, this is a fantastic video. I am a newbie and still waiting on my C70. This is a subject I would not have have had the where withal to give the appropriate consideration due to my lack of experience. Very well explained and not long winded. I learn a lot from your videos. My favor to you is I would like to see more about how you did your color correction on the computer. The results of your video processing are spectacular. Thanks again.
The initial point about highlight/rolloff really is SOO true...was THE main reason to go for the a7siii this year, as its the only cam i know that does this like a cinecam/blackmagic imo. The c70 looks nice, but not for me. No IBIS, No EVF and far more expensive, but an interesting cam for sure and cool that canon tried this. Cant shake the feeling they left out clog3 on the r5 to sell the c70 tho... :)
Thanks for the great analysis. Im watching your videos as I try to decide between c70 and the R5. I lean towards the R5 for the autofocus for fast moving subjects and low light. C70 not having raw concerns me as I do shoot a lot in low light. But the cinematic capabilities of the C70 and R5 overheating have me questioning.
On the Alexa, Komodo, Varicam, DXL2 & celluloid, even 3 stops overexposed, clipped highlights look quite stylish. Some movies have even gotten away with 5 stops over & still looked cool. (Traffic comes to mind). Can the C70 not compete?
Hey, Carlos I just subscribed. What lens did you use for that shot? Also, my take is that you normally would use some type of sunlight diffuser panel, so knowing without it you can still get this good of a result is pretty cool.
Nice!!!💯 This seems to be thee camera to get as current tech goes. Appreciate your approach to laying out the idiosyncrasies and operability of the C70.
Looks good. I am looking at the C70 as my next cinema camera. I have used the ETTR approach with success as well. Others use Zebras in a similar manner. But, I like your technique of using False Color instead. I think it's also important to not have any view LUTs on when doing so, as it can affect how your camera exposes the highlights and shadows. Great video. Look forward to more of your experience with the C70. Next? I would be interested in backlighting talent.
I been watching your videos bro and they are awesome! I sub! I know this is out of the question but have you heard of the C90 rumors? You think is gonna be 5.9k like c500? Don't mind me asking. Bless bro 🙏🏽
Thanks bro, I've heard only the rumors and the people at Canon that I know simply say that yes, more cameras will be released and that is kind of the end of details.
Back in 2019 this would have been hands down the best cinema camera for the money. However, we are at the end of 2020 when we have had the biggest release of cinema cameras in the last decade. No saying this camera is not a fantastic tool, just wonder, if I have 6 grand sitting around, where should I put them? Sony, Canon, Komodo? I would like to see how this camera stacks in real life use against those. Fantastic series btw! I've been watching all your videos
@@carlosq00 Just seeing this excellent video. Carlos, you probably won't remember, but do you recall which False Color you settled on in this clip, for SKIN TONE? Did you just bring everything to non-red, or did you have a skin tone False Color as a target?
Thanks for the video Carlos. Minio, I'm curious. Where WOULD you put the second camera if not at the side? I've recently been watching the brilliant BBC doc Once Upon A Time In Iraq. Impactful low key dramatic lighting - and a side camera position which looks good to my eyes and really punches in to the emotions of the subjects. Why do you find a side cam angle cheesy?
@@Scriptfella Hey! Well . I HAVE seen it work. It works when we use the second camera to observe our subject. For example, i was watching some documentary on mental illness, and the person being interviewed ... when its the normal front on camera (or just off to the side talking to the interviewer) we the audience were listening to what she was saying. She was connecting with us. But when the second camera was used, i felt i was watching her now. It kind of worked cos now instead of listening to her it isolated her... i was observing this person now, not necessarily connecting anymore but observing. does that make sense? NO!! dont be lazy, think of maybe using a top down camera like gerald undone now does , showing the camera etc. (he did try the side camera but stopped thank god) or like DP review suggest... which is use inserts. or actually use shots that describe WHAT you're talking about . DONT BE LAZY!!
should we talk about the commercial look or backlighting talent next?

HI Carlon, can you show us how u properly use the false color in the c70 please? thanx
It's a lot to ask of any medium which is why using a scrim would always be helpful.
The C70 handled it like a champ...nothing clipped.
Well, there's white balance to consider as well, which RAW enables you correct to a greater degree.

Everything I've seen from this camera has impressed me. Great rolloff and beautiful colors 😊

Super impressive. Hopefully, the C70 comes back in stock by the end of the year for a tax write-off.

I’m super interested in the post side of C70 as well. Also any A7S III comparisons if possible
Great. Thanks for the acknowledgement and please keep the videos on the C70 coming. I watch everyone.
The video look is often preferable in broadcast work. Canon cinema cameras do both video and film look well.
that is true particularly with local smaller market broadcast work or live events

Could you compare the C70 to the c200 raw?? Pleeeease
I don't have a C200 any longer
That's the major difference between a cinema camera, and video camera. Would like to see how this fares against the BMPCC 4k/6k
unfortunately, I only cover gear that I own and I no longer own pocket cameras.
Looking at picking one up at the beginning of the year to pair with C300 Mark II. Thanks for the mini-review!

Do you normally check your false color over a lutted or unluttet image?
