As you've figured out, Jen, vampire lore (their origins, their powers and 'the rules') varies from setting to setting. The writers basically pick and choose whichever rules they want to use (or invent).
Santa Carla does not exist, but is based on Santa Cruz, where the movie was shot. The idea that the usual anti-vampire devices don't work on a vampire who is been invited into the house is apparently original to this movie; the normal version of this trope is that a vampire can't enter a house in the first place unless invited to do so. This idea originates in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula, and Stoker based it on the idea in Goethe's Faust that the devil can't enter unless invited. Stoker wrote Dracula in his free time while working for the actor Sir Henry Irving, on whom he based Dracula's appearance, and one of Irving's most famous roles was the devil in Faust.

Vampire lore has a wide variety of forms so dont look for universal consistency. Bad breath or smelling like a dead body is an old classic you dont see often in cinematic vampires. Some shapeshift, some cannot change. Sunlight is not even always harmful, just weakening etc
I think the joke was that the "mind scramble" was simply the vampires waking up and speaking to them. That was enough to make them run like hell. Edgar was just trying euphemize their hasty retreat in abject terror.
Tim Capello is the man! Tina’s saxophonist, tours with Ringo. Been recording with Gunship, Brit Synthwave band for a few tracks the last few years. Both are worth checking out. Gunship’s videos are also worth checking out.
*Wow! I think this is the first time ever I see anyone seeing **_The Lost Boys_** without knowing it is about Vampires ahead of time: That made for a great reaction!* 😁👍 *Fun Fact: The movie is called **_The Lost Boys_** because the original script had all the Vampires and brothers Michael & Sam as children, as a parallel to the Lost Boys from the Peter Pan story. They later aged most of the kids, except Sam, to be teenagers (Which was probably a good decision from a production and acting quality point of view, but I can’t help but wonder what the movie would have been like had they stuck with kids as protagonists/antagonists)* *If you want to see horror themed movies that DID stick with kids as main characters for the movie, I highly recommend:* - *The Gate* _(1987)_ - *Monster Quad* _(1987)_ [Funny to think that, had _The Lost Boys_ stuck with kid actors, it would have made 3 Horror Movies starring kids that would have come out the same year!]
The Coreys, Haim and Feldman, were a big thing at this point. Also Jason Patrick and Kiefer Sullivan were friends and in a lot of stuff together until Julia Roberts dated both.
Keifer Sutherland was also married to Camilla Kath, widow of Chicago guitarist Terry Kath, at around the time this movie was made. He was 20, she was 34.

A couple of trivia tidbits on this one... 1. Edward Herrmann played the head vampire Max, and the girl running with the vampires was named Star. A few years after this movie, Edward Herrmann married a woman named Star. 🙂 2. Fred Gwynne, who famously played Herman Munster, was also considered for the role of Max. In 1995, the role of Herman Munster in the TV movie "Here Come the Munsters" was played by Edward Herrmann. Clearly, Hollywood viewed these two actors as being cut from the same cloth! 😉
This was filmed in Santa Cruz, California. A coworker of mine lived there when they filmed this. According to him, the city objected to the reference that they were the "murder capital of the world" (which was true) and they refused to let them use the name. This is why they chose the fictional name, " Santa Carla."

Party like the 80's never ended!👍Btw, YES🙏PLEASE watch "Blade II"⚔and I wouldn't mind if You wanna do "Twilight"
too! 😇👌
Iconic 80's, love this movie
For some other 80's vampire classics, check out Fright Night and Near Dark.
Vampire lore has a wide variety of forms so dont look for universal consistency. Bad breath or smelling like a dead body is an old classic you dont see often in cinematic vampires. Some shapeshift, some cannot change. Sunlight is not even always harmful, just weakening etc
Loved the reaction Jen. This has been my favorite vampire movie ever since I was a kid. It's got an amazing cast and soundtrack. R.I.P Corey Haim. 🙏
Jen has the best weezy laugh. 😊
Oh yeah, what a classic vamp film. Killer 80s soundtrack!
I was 7 when this came out, and it's been one of my favorite movies ever since!
Absolutely true! His Gunship collaborations are awesome and Gunship videos are nothing less but outstanding...and mostly wonderful 80s/90s homages. 😎
The Lost Boys. Never look at Peter Pan the same way again.
*Wow! I think this is the first time ever I see anyone seeing **_The Lost Boys_** without knowing it is about Vampires ahead of time: That made for a great reaction!* 😁👍
*Fun Fact: The movie is called **_The Lost Boys_** because the original script had all the Vampires and brothers Michael & Sam as children, as a parallel to the Lost Boys from the Peter Pan story. They later aged most of the kids, except Sam, to be teenagers (Which was probably a good decision from a production and acting quality point of view, but I can’t help but wonder what the movie would have been like had they stuck with kids as protagonists/antagonists)*
*If you want to see horror themed movies that DID stick with kids as main characters for the movie, I highly recommend:*
- *The Gate* _(1987)_
- *Monster Quad* _(1987)_
[Funny to think that, had _The Lost Boys_ stuck with kid actors, it would have made 3 Horror Movies starring kids that would have come out the same year!]
The Coreys, Haim and Feldman, were a big thing at this point. Also Jason Patrick and Kiefer Sullivan were friends and in a lot of stuff together until Julia Roberts dated both.
I'm still trying to figure out who that Sullivan guy is Julia Robert is supposed to have dated ....
@@Vurt.451damn you auto correct!
Keifer Sutherland was also married to Camilla Kath, widow of Chicago guitarist Terry Kath, at around the time this movie was made. He was 20, she was 34.
That’s two people I’ve seen react to this and not register Kefer Sutherland!
I guess 24 started 20+ years ago but it was big, and I’d have thought all millennials would know who he was.
Best line “death by stereo!”
Never saw it
@@jenmurrayxo It’s actually very good (the earlier series certainly) but by its vary nature it’s quite a slog to re-watch (which I did about 10 years ago because I had some time to kill and access to them all all on disk - this was before they would just be available to be streamed).
I’d suggest the first series in your own time if you’re interested. There’s nothing else like it.
I looked this up a few years ago -
They say "Michael" way more in this movie than they do in that one movie called, "Michael"
I've seen 114 times and 237 times. I haven't tried to count so will go with "a lot."
Lost Boys originally was suppose to be a more Goonies style movie
the son of President Snow is a vampire !
The son of the Watcher in the Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie is a vampire!
President Snow played a vampire protector, Striker, in the second adaptation of Salem’s Lot.
Sgt. Oddball's son is a vampire!
Keifer Sutherland was also in "Flat-liners" with Julia Roberts & Kevin Bacon as med' students ki**ing themselves & coming 💀 back for thrills, but then . . . Jen'll see...🤞
Tim Cappello (sexy 80's saxamaphone guy) was big in the 80's working with Tina Turner. He does a lot work with the band Gunship now which is a great band if you like an 80's synthwave style. Their videos are pretty cool too.
A couple of trivia tidbits on this one...
1. Edward Herrmann played the head vampire Max, and the girl running with the vampires was named Star. A few years after this movie, Edward Herrmann married a woman named Star. 🙂
I love the straight-to-it intro style you adopted here!
This was filmed in Santa Cruz, California. A coworker of mine lived there when they filmed this. According to him, the city objected to the reference that they were the "murder capital of the world" (which was true) and they refused to let them use the name. This is why they chose the fictional name, " Santa Carla."
I've been watching Jen's videos too long. Every time I see a dog in a movie or real life, I've started saying 'a dawg' like she does. LOL.
Great vampire movie! The Lost Boys was awesome for the 80s. Whats more 80's than a saxophone player jamming on the boardwalk! Nanuk was a good doggo and im glad he survived the vampires! Also great cast! Happy you watches this little gem of a movie. I luv the soundtrack! Thanks for sharing Jen! ❤️💛🎷
I love the Canadian term for gangs as street toughs. It’s somehow the most wholesome gang term ever. So glad you discovered this movie, Fright Night should be on your list as well at some point. Think you’ll love it.
the grandpa was in "Tron" (1982) as Dumont
An excellent movie! 👍
A classic and now I have to see if you have Monster Squad. Fright Night is also a cool 80's flick.
Jen, another blast of a reaction video to your credit. This one didn't frighten you... much... but you killed it. You're the bomb! I'm sorry that I didn't see it live; couldn't make it back in time for this one. But I watched it and it was fun!
If you did a drinking game for how many times they say “Michael” you’d probably die. Haha
Greasy Saxophone Guy can exist only in the 1980's.
Part of the ultimate 80's vampire trinity. The other two you should see are "Fright Night" and "Near Dark." All excellent, all very different.
the only thing in this movie I find strange is why Jami gertz didint turn into a vampire? I know the movie had a low budget but at least they should have use prosthetics or make up on her to look like a vampire.
I’ve seen this movie an irresponsible number of times. Thank you Jen, for a fresh watch! 🦇
Thoroughly enjoyed your gross out 😂
Subscribed.
🏆 🥂
@3:24 hes talking about per capita. A roman term. It meaning simple math. In chicago, the south side. 20 ppl die from violence. 20 ppl per 3 million. Where i live, we could have 2 per 100k. Which amount is higher? And thus gives us the roman term "per capita"
Ted I'm a vampire dude
No way!
Yes way Ted!
🤣🤣
Great job about recognizing Bill aka Alex Winter.
Comgrats on 500 Jen. And yes Richard Donner did Superman and Lethal Weapon
Now you know where The Simpsons got the vampires floating outside the window bit in one of their Treehouse of Horror specials.
I love that Jen recognized Kiefer Sutherland from Stand by Me. 🤗
Corey Feldman core.
"Death by stereo!"
Jen's witty wholesomeness makes her reactions a joy to watch. 👏
Jason, Patric, who plays Michael. You know his father, Damien Karas from the exorcist. Jason Miller.
