I love the fact that Greg now looks like some middle-aged Geography teacher but he's actually an absolute beast of energy, passion and talent under it all. Saw them late in 2017 and they would have blown 99% of bands half their age to pieces.
I was a latecomer to the band in the Nineties, and outside parts of the first Twilight Singers loved their catalog just as much. Saw them in 2017 and they did not disappoint. I sometimes wished the Whigs had done a covers record. It’s evident with both groups that Dulli has a unique talent for marrying diverse styles effectively & honorably. It’s still possible, perhaps…
@@SneedyKetler As a matter of fact they did two back to back mostly cover EP's, one in 93' "What Jail it like" & "Uptown Avondale" in '94. They both only have 5 or so songs all covers, with the exception of I believe one Whigs tune on each. Both are good, "Uptown" is mostly lesser known, soul covers.
I disagree right now anyway good looking people need to fight to retain their beauty it's about respecting the power and influence that they bestow. I wouldn't like it if someone allowed a piece of art or a building to degenerate simply because they couldn't be bothered to keep it up or whatever this is similar
I couldn't agree with you more...Getting to see them play live sooo many times...When I lived in the Seattle area...Back in the 90's..is Something I'll always fondly cherish!!!💙💜💙💜
What a band... Just Brilliant. I am from the UK 47 year old and I always loved The Whigs way above any US band of the same era. Just really unique and intelligent..
I remember when the Afghan Whigs were on the radar of mid 90's music, but they were overwhelmed by the grunge movement. so now, more than 30 years later I'm finally getting to discover their music. I'm loving the instrumentation, the melody lines and this guy's voice. Better late than never, as they say.
Cheryl Waters, KEXP, The Afghan Whigs, this radio moment is absolutely unique, you can feel something that only the best music can produce, all the people behind such creative effort simply at top artistic level. Thanks!!! Cheryl Waters, KEXP, The Afghan Whigs, este momento radial es absolutamente único, pueden sentir algo que sólo la mejor música puede producir, todas las personas detrás de semejante esfuerzo creativo sencillamente al más alto nivel artístico. Gracias!!!
These guys are great! And, I gotta say that, it made me so happy to see Cheryl in her element. Absolutely enjoying her time. I really loved to see that. Thank you for the tunes, and, thank you, for sharing a wonderful moment ❤️🎼🥁👍🏼
Metallurgist Music TV Agree, but without Rick McCollum this band is the Twilight Singers. There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with the Singers, but from a musical perspective, Rick clearly brought the filthy swagger that made the Whigs great. In a band comprised of former drug abusers, he held a true course. Check his band Moon Maan for some dark but catchy Jazzmaster-fueled grooves.
I'll be honest, due to the beast was probably the first time I've heard them. I really dig em. I had no idea they have been around a while. 😊. Thanks KEXP.
Last time I saw them live they didn't play any of the old stuff (from Gentleman or Congregation) which kind of bummed me out. I love the two albums. I think they did one song from Up In It, but everything else was new.
Back when Gentleman hit MTV in the early 90's I thought to myself, this is grunge, but different. I totally read a big influence from Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, and Peter Gabriel. Really cool. It is so depressing to think that nobody does their own thing anymore.
as a real music junky from around 1988 on, Congregation was my first Afghan Whigs Album. The strange thing is, that I still like to listen to them play, but I think I never ever listened to an entire album in one go. It's just to intens doing so. Its a bit like eating a very nice cheesecake. I love a piece, but I cant eat the entire pie, because it just makes me sick. Still after al those years I play some songs of them every now and then. And I stil wander whethter Gregg is singing out of tune. Anyways. The Whigs have been with me for some 29 years now, and I am pretty sure I will keep on listening to them in the years to come.
Some can't handle Greg's voice, but if you listen carefully there is so much going on in their songs, they really are quite unique, maybe try Twilight Singers first?

Legendary swagger.

He has more than a physical resemblance to John Belushi that's for sure. Fucking beast indeed.
These guys are criminally underated
True. I wonder if they didn't want to play the Hollywood sell your soul game. It is truly inhuman what's coming out of there now. Godless.
So is spelling

Greg Dulli and his talents age like a fine wine. It sounds impossible, but this latest album might be my favorite thing he has ever done. Incredible!
You a fan of Twilight Singers atuff?
Greg Dulli. His genius continues unabated...
Indeed and it seems to have escaped his mind to grow in his body
Long live the Afghan Whigs. Dulli has never been shy about keeping the soul in rock n’ roll.
Why does it always sound as if they are just about to fall apart. But then they create this beauty. It's a special thing.
Greg’s voice is always recognizable. You know it’s him. And a voice like his makes a band standout from others.
Afghan Whigs, the music of my college years. 💜 Cheryl.
The music of my high school years, lol, so glad they are back and better than ever
Thank u for this performance/interview.Looks like u love this criminally underrated band too!Best Wishes.
Can't believe I'm gonna see Afghan Whigs AND Built to Spill on one night.
That's an insanely good bill. Two of the best live bands in the business. I wish I lived in the states. Here's hoping they bring that tour over here.
And the venue is great as well.
I get to see these guys next week!
Saw 'em Friday. They were both awesome. Afghan Whigs are ridiculously tight.
Ohh Dulli..How I have missed your unique, heart wrenching, voice.
Love hearing the backstories to the songs... Great performance.

Again Cheryl made this an absolute joy. The Afghan Whigs were also amazing.
One of my favourite bands since long time ago.

Sweeps me away, absolutely beautiful and from deep inside or not from this world!
In Spades one of the greatest Indie-Rock álbums of 2017. I loved Dear Prudence version
Holy shit, these guys still create a righteous groove. Keep on keeping on Afghan Whigs!
I'm so happy I saw them in Pittsburgh before the world ended. This live version of Oriole is just so good.
I love the Afghan Wigs and the Twilight Singers. Greg Dulli is a wonderful musician !
I keep coming back to watch this one (and Cheryl is always a huge plus). This tour was so good....
Great band! Discovered them recently and enjoying them a lot-

All these guys are so talented.
i love their sound; kind of an odd mix of something really familiar and common with some really strange originality
It’s great to see the Whigs reunited!

Dear Prudence had me in tears during VIP in San Francisco! Thank you!
Saw them this week, and they were brilliant!
I saw them when I lived in Cincy 17 years ago. Amazing
Still sublime.
He sounds fantastic but i hope he gets tuned up a bit on his weight . We need this gem to stick sround .
Awesome band live,And a great album!
I'll be honest, due to the beast was probably the first time I've heard them. I really dig em. I had no idea they have been around a while. 😊. Thanks KEXP.
Obrigado Kexp
This set was so insane!! Great stuff!
KEXP, Why you took so long to release this masterpiece???

I miss Greg and Mark playing together. They were the dark Simon and Garfunkel
Thank you.
Last time I saw them live they didn't play any of the old stuff (from Gentleman or Congregation) which kind of bummed me out. I love the two albums. I think they did one song from Up In It, but everything else was new.
Greg Dulli Dear prudence..well its god like

damn bruh, aging sucks... we all fall down.
Oh god..... another great band intro with another totally cheesy KEXP intro
Anyone notice Ray Liotta on bass? Lmao
It's all the band that makes Greg mint with the the rest of the band !!, Give the band credit buddy before my TXT!!
7:10 Anyone know what chord progression Cheryl and Greg is referring to? What song is it?? What part?
Oriole
i can't get into these guys :( i want to , just does nothing for me.
Even Gentlemen album?
Some can't handle Greg's voice, but if you listen carefully there is so much going on in their songs, they really are quite unique, maybe try Twilight Singers first?
Here comes the puke
Wow they’re terrible!!!
I think I’m gonna barf 🤢
