- video by Paul Congo, originally cable-cast by Mountain Community Television out of Norton, Virginia
In 1972, Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys made an appearance at the grand opening of a friend's variety store (at the current location of the Pound IGA grocer). The performance took place in the parking lot, from the flatbed of a truck.
Ralph Stanley - banjo
Ricky Skaggs - mandolin
Keith Whitley - guitar
Roy Lee Centers - guitar
Curly Ray Cline - fiddle
Jack Cooke - bass
October 12, 2023 and Skaggs is the last man standing.
I think Keith was really enjoying this gig more than anyone else in the lineup! Amazing runs by Ricky, and everyone playing that day. A true treasure!
Boy this brings back some good memories I remember this day like it was yesterday.
Ricky Skaggs is only one liveing to this day
Holy s*** this video is a national treasure
These men of god is one of my favorites. Thanks for the share
I had the privilege of seeing brother Ralph and the Clinch Mountain Boys at the Mountaineer Opry house at Milton, WV , at least 3 times in the 90's. They put on their best performance for about 150 people, as though they were playing before 30 thousand people. I'm a forever Ralph Stanley fan. I'm sorry my father did not get to hear him,as he passed away in 1971. Every time I hear Ralph, I think of my father, as he loved this music.
Love Ralph Stanley
god praise the man that's given us all this special gem!!! thank you doesn't getting better than Keith and Ralph man what a power combo with respect to harmonies...
That's pretty amazing! Thank you for sharing this! Man, Those boys were young!! :)
Absolute gem with this classic lineup.
Roy Lee Centers was so good too. Loved him
From ear to ear 😁
This is my favorite CMB member configuration
As best I can determine “Village Churchyard” was the first recording by a bluegrass band that featured the “lining” by Ralph and demonstrated here.
Skvělé hudební vystoupení, krásný zpěv všech zpěváků a velké umění hry na banjo, kytary a housle 🎻❤️🎸
Stick to Greek.

Rock stars.
Insanely
I love you nova
For personnel you forgot to include Jack Cooke on bass.
Just fine.
I love bluegrass and love Ralph, but his hat always looks like it is either a couple sizes too small, or a couple sizes too big... i laugh every time i see it and i don't kno y?
👎👎👎👎👎 The more I hear R.S. play banjo, the less I like his playing, especially when he plays clawhammer style. Wade Ward is #1.
Mournful. Wrong key.
