From watching cobblers, I think their classic approach to the issue you have is to add an additional roughout leather heel counter to the inside and to pad the inside of the tongue with the same.

Put a brass snap on that inside flap! And it adds a pop of shine
Also I have to agree on the Viberg take. They make an amazing looking and fitting boot. But you have to get the correct size and their sizing can definitely be confusing! Great job as always

It's really cool to see that you've modified these boots to be something you'll enjoy wearing. Regardless of what some people think of modifying such expensive boots, at the end of the day they are just boots. I would never spend $2000 on a pair of boots, but then again, this is for your business and they are meant to be a heritage piece, not necessarily an every man's boot

I personally like the taller shaft. For you removing the strap on a regular engine boot and placing an elastic in there, would prove better to not slide down quite as fast if at all. Years ago I had a pair of harness boots where I went to the cobbler and had him cut off the lower piece if leather holding harness to boot so I can have a chain go under the sole instead of just being fixed in place. If I wasn't in a harness mood, it easily came off.
For some time now, I have been contemplating purchasing a pair of Mason Shoes Work western boots. I had a pair back when I was in high school. At the time they sold them by catalog from persons who sold them to you. Now they don't do that, just a direct sale and the price hasn't really changed much over the years.

Great content as always. Really like the look of these, especially the handsewn triangle detail on the gusset. There's just something so appealing about the look of color #8 shell, especially on big panels like a pull-on boot. The subdued purple-brown-red looks so good without being flashy and it looks good with any sort of indigo, olive/OD or brown/tan bottoms imo.
An alternative to the engineer's buckled instep strap could be something like what you'd see on a tanker boot, with a higher strap that wraps all the way around and up the boot and sort of combines the instep and gusset strap into one piece. It looks like the buckle sits higher, so you can wear it under your pants leg if you don't want it showing. Eastman Leather and John Lofgren did a collab based on WWII tanker boots with a modern silhouette that looks killer. Nick's also has a tanker boot that's based on the Builder Pro appropriately called the Tanker Pro. I would definitely watch a video about the tanker style if you ever get the chance to make one. The style is cool, being at least as 'out-there' as engineers, and the history is also pretty interesting, as tank crews needed a well-fitting boot that didn't have any laces or eyelets that could get snagged on something in the tank.

Two thoughts, first a snap at the top near the elastic would prevent it from wearing out. Essentially it would hold the top of the boot closed during regular wear. Second add an extra layer of insole to tighten up the fit around your foot, with no external buckle, strap or lace.

I think they turned out beautiful and have the same reaction to the buckles of engineer boots. The engineer boots I see in shipyards tend to have those same folds anyway.

if they sort of fit allready(especially the position of your ball and heel) and are just a bit loose, you could just put in some inserts to raise your foot and make the instep fit you. Just a little hint from a bootmaker. Being leatherworkers you could even make them yourself. Way less work and stress on the material than relasting the whole thing!

Check out German Knobelbecher style boots.
Supposedly, the boots are called that because ankles crease (like your boots) is reminiscent of leather dice cups
There is a symmetry that’s really nice when leather boots crease like that.

There must be some alternative to the kiltie, on the inside of the boot, over the instep. They glue heelpads, couldn't you glue a kiltie? But it sounds like you're on to a much bigger adventure: lasting! Anyhow, appreciate your tinker's spirit.

This method has long been invented by a Soviet conscript soldier. this is called -“SHURUP” (SCREW) - folding the boot shaft like an accordion . it is a kind of decoration before the end of the service. in addition, the market has long been full of women's boots with such a top.😉👢👢

I think it's cool when people modify their clothes to suit their style and needs, but when you buy a pair of boots for $2000 my expectation would be that they should be perfect out of the box and shouldn't need modification. I understand that these modifications weren't made because of any initial problem with the boots themselves, but it still seems like a waste. It's like buying a really nice pair of japanese denim jeans to cut them down into jorts. It just feels wrong.

Excellent video but I have no idea how he thinks engineer boots are dressier than roper boots. They’re both blue collar work boots! Both are no where near being dressy in the slightest. SMH goes to show just how far from classic mensware we are nowadays, which is absolutely understandable but I am just always surprised at what people describe as dress. I once saw someone say black sneakers are dressy and had the same reaction. A black balmoral boot is certainly a dressy boot but they’re just all that common in main stream media and fashion anymore so I get it but wow
