I think we must learn to evaluate our feelings, then make a choice based on whether or not our feelings are moving Us in the direction of our goals and aspirations.

Yes! This is exactly the Kabbalists' teachings. As Rav Berg often said, "consciousness is everything!" Our feelings can be clues as to where our consciousness is. A Golem is a human-like, intelligent creature that has been metaphysically/scientifically formed from a previously lifeless substance such as dirt/clay or earth.
