I remember queueing up outside Manchester Apollo for tickets to both nights in 1980. One of the best live acts on the planet. Saw them years later at the legendary Fillmore in San Francico on the Heavy Traffic tour, in front of approximately 300 people (including Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield) and they were good, but I somehow missed the Coghlan / Lancaster sound. They are a different band now from the band I saw back in the day, but I still find time, now and again, to give some old Quo a spin.

Great under taking here. It wouldn’t be easy. The one I’d rank a LOT higher is Quid Pro Quo. It’s probably a top ten or 12 album for me. Their best post 2000 album along with Heavy Traffic. I totally agree that quid pro is a solid album but being honest I've only heard it a couple of times compared to the rest. Blue for you is a brilliant album. And you are right 'Under The Influence' is vastly underated.🤘🍺
On The Level would be my #1 with Dog Of Two Head as a close runner-up. Any of those first 10 albums or so could be right up there, though. I also really like Thirsty work - it may even be a bit higher for me than it was for you. Thanks for the video! Now to go listen to some Quo!!

my favourite songs and albums are from the original band (being 55 yrs old) but we cannot slate Rhino, He is a fantastic bass guitarist. #1 "hello" definitely
My number 1 as well, that was a good review.Saw them here in Northern Ireland in 1982, taking my 26th year old daughter who loves them,to a concert here in February. Take Care..
@@hughesyplays 🍻 100% right I can still recall that concert in 82 ,it was that good I went back next day and watched them again.Cannot recall how many times I have seen them. The last time was in Scotland when they backed Lynard skynard. Thanks and "HELLO!" from🇫🇷 to you and your dad. Yep! I'm a 🐸 Quo fan. Got to know them when I was 13, back in 1981 and first saw them at Old Trafford, June 1991. Just registered to your channel. 🤘
@@hughesyplays It broadened my view. I still have a lot to discover I guess. I will listen to Quo tomorrow first thing in the morning. If neighbours complain you're held responsible😆👍
I agree with the new rythum guitarest i think hes doing a swell job! Went to see Quo in 2016 and it was brillant! I love Quo as well! I think Ritchie is fillin the big shoes and puttin his own stamp to it..
1 hello ..2 on the level. 3 live in Glasgow..4 quo...5 blue for you...6 piledriver .7 if you can't stand the heat.......I remember being on a hire bus 1975 going from redditch college to worsester for a river boat shuffle....and the whole bus sang most of the time 😎👍
Nice list. I essentially stopped buying Quo albums after In The Army Now, with the exception of Heavy Traffic, In search of the Fourth Chord and Quid Pro Quo. I would rank those three higher than Back to Back, 1982 and In The Army Now.
Montrose! Their debut is my favourite album of all time (along with Aerosmith's 'Rocks'). It heavily influenced Van Halen's first album, with same studio, same guitar sound, Eddie using Ronnie Montrose's guitar amp, same producer and same label. Sammy Hagar's vocals on that Montrose album are as raw as exposed nerves. Loved Nine Inch Nails hate Korn.
@@hughesyplays I get that...but at the time you had in the 70s a lot if double live albums..deep purple..led zep...Peter frampton. Etc.....quo was top draw live album.....thin lizzy pretty good too...
I will say this about Riffs, The performance of Junior's Wailing on there is awesome! I didn't like the Don't Stop album at all as they shouldn't have released it at the time. An equal number one should be all the releases from the 70's when they were easily the best UK band on the planet! You cannot say one album is better than any other through the decade. Each album from start to finish is impeccable and, at the time, you were biting your nails waiting for the next new release!
My dad always admits it was never the same but he always rooted for every release, even singing the don't stop album in 96 in the car! Came to a point where he had francis' voice style down. 😅😅
Quo’. Is my number 1. But close call with Hello and Piledriver. and On the Level. Love the early stuff. But saw them 1st time in 77’. At Lewisham Odeon (sadly no longer there).
Hughesy Plays That’s a difficult one... Backwater is up there but Love Slow Train, Don’t Waste my time, Roll over Lay Down , Big Fat Mama, there’s so many I could just keep going.. Blue eyed Lady, Mystery song(Full version). Down Down, A bit later Dirty Water, Whatever you want. But love I saw the light and What to do...
You are on a plain and Francis Rossi sits next to you,he ask what your favourite quo song is and it has to be a choice of two,in return he will give you a signed fender telecaster. What song do you go with?
Great list. First saw them on Whatever you want tour. Would have put Just Supposin and Whatever you want slightly higher. Never too late should definitely be in the top 10. Take me away is awesome as is Riverside.
I agree with you about Over and Done. Class song. Again with Little White Lies. Quality song. I can see why Thirsty Work would be higher for you, than I'd put it. For me the album suffers from a too polished production for my liking. I would put Never Too Late higher up as earlier in my life it was only one of two Quo albums where I liked every song in the album. The other was Blue for You. Since then my tastes have broadened and there are more albums where I like wcwey song on them but even then albums like Hello, On the Level and Rockin' All Over the World all have at least 1 song I don't like.
Unless you have (in any order) Dog of Two Head, Piledriver, Hello, Quo, On the Level, Blue For You and the original Live album as your top seven this is a waste of time. The rest is at best mediocre, at worst totally forgettable. Rocking all over the World was a massive disappointment following those seven, and for me the beginning of the end.
@@hughesyplays I saw the Frantic Four play live 27 times. A lot of those stick in memory. Fourth row Birmingham Odeon, 1977 the Rockin all Over tour. Curtain at the front of the stage, as the lights go down the drone starts up, projected on to the curtain is STATUS QUO..ROCKING ALL OVER THE WORLD. The places they’ve already been to on the tour start rolling around on the screen, as it hits Birmingham Rick starts the Caroline intro, the curtain goes up and the band are centre stage in the same stance as on the front of the Piledriver album. They stay like that, hair down, ripping out the Caroline intro until the vocal kicks in, at which point they break up and rock out. Magical, I’ll never forget that.
Dad was probably at the Manchester Apollo,he's told me all the stories of the cues, stretching for miles,a biker club looking guy tapping him on the shoulder my mum getting scared and he was just asking my dad how much the program was!
1. Heat 2. Live 3. Never too Late 4.Quo 5. Dog 6. Whatever you Want. 7. Hello 8. On the level. 9. Piledriver. 10. Blue for you. Best Post FF, Heavy Traffic. Can't stand: the covers albums.
I'm surprised, 'Never Too Late', was ranked so low. My philosophy has always been to have the frame of mind to view each album as a snapshot of the time it was written and recorded, as to what the band where about at the time. Everyone is wiser after the event and can question why they did this or that, but at the time, I'm sure they felt what they committed to record was what they considered to be what they were at the time. Sure, everyone has their own personal preferences and can choose one album over another, but I've always felt it's far more productive to take away the positives of any of their records, rather than to focus on the negativity of era, genre and/or personnel. Those who make claims that the music isn't as good after a certain time, doesn't quite fit into what they personally think Quo should be writing/producing, or because a certain member is no longer present, are simply denying themselves. Their choice, of course, and if that's what they really think, then fine, but it doesn't detract from the point that they're basically cutting off their noses to spite their face and missing out on some genuinely good songs.
Was your dad, like us, queueing up at 4am? Yes I remember a couple of bikers ' having a word' with a few of the heavy handed security. Great gig though, then we all piled into Jilly's rock club after the show (your dad may know that club).
Unless you were around at the time- each album had it's own time and space, the same level of power the LIVE album summed it all up after that they changed direction moved on but it didn't mean they were anything but The Quo it's all a matter of taste after that. I still don't rate albums as favourites they all have something you can only experience if you did the gigs through out. So don't say this album is better than the next or that album is better than ... it's about how were at the time and who you were. Each album has it's good points Quo were and always were a good band, don't criticise and they didn't end in 1986 ...
Love Quo I'm in minority as I really like ain't complaining but as you say not really Quo but it was second Quo album I had first I bought as in the army now was xmas present in 86. But yeah my favourites are spare parts to ain't complaining. Do like later albums as well.
Cool comments. Old fans will dismiss any quo after rockin all over the world, probably without a listen to anything,my dad gives every album a chance, sometimes rooting for the crap ones that are bad,but they have released good albums just not on the level (pun intended) as the old
Piledriver-Quo-On The Level-Hello-Blue For You-Dog Of Two Head-Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon. Everything else is crap, particularly after Coughlin and Lancaster went.

Pity you never saw them live in 1970s with original line up .You'd probably bin your 21 -31 choices...Lol 😄 With Quo the further you go back the tighter and better they get esp before 1982 . I'd have chosen your top 3 as well 🎸🎸🎶👍👌
I think it comes down to perspective and experience. You lived them before they went soft so I can imagine how it felt. I saw them for the first time in 95 so they were decades into being a commercial family band
That’s right ‘ quo have not made a brilliant album since blue for you ‘ they’ve made a few decent albums since but nothing outstanding. And as for the new album it’s is very poor’ too light not many quo riffs and doesn’t really rock .

NEVER TOO LATE IS A VERY INTELLIGENT ALBUM. IT IS ONE OF THEIR BETTER ALBUMS. PROOF THAT IT WASN'T THE MUSIC THAT FORCED SPUD TO LEAVE THE BAND, IT WAS ROSSI. FRAME IS WHAT I CALL ' THE ANTI-QUO ' MY 'COMICAL' ATTEMPT AT ELEVIATING THE DEEP SADNESS AT LOSING OUR GREAT BAND IS TO CLAIM THAT ALIENS ABDUCTED THE 'REAL' ROSSI AND REPLACED HIM WITH 'THE ANTI-QUO'. SOME OF THE POST-FRANTIC FOUR ALBUMS HAVE NO RIGHT TO BE UNDER THE NAME STATUS QUO, WE KNOW WHICH ONES I MEAN. THEY BETRAY THE QUO TRADEMARK. THEY BETRAY THE GENUINE QUO SUPPORTERS. I AM A VERY PASSIONATE MUSIC LOVER AND I LOVE 'BLESSED ARE THE MEEK' FROM UTI, BUT IT'S NOT QUO!!!!!!! IT'S ONE OF MY FAVE SONGS TO SING ALONG TO. I ALSO LOVE BANDS LIKE DEAD KENNEDYS, GANG OF FOUR, SEX PISTOLS, RAMONES, I LOVE A LOT OF ALTERNATE AND DIY BANDS AND ARTISTS. I LOVE THE STOOGES AND MC5, BUZZCOCKS, IN AUSTRALIA, THERE WERE AND ARE 100'S OF AWESOME ROCK BANDS LIKE CELIBATE RIFLES, LIME SPIDERS, SPY VSPY, YOU AM I, THE SAINTS, RADIO BIRDMAN, NEW CHRISTS, X, the Meanies, Frenzal Rhomb, and Screamfeeder & the Hard-Ons FROM THE 'MEAN' STREETS OF PUNCHBOWL, SYDNEY. THE CASANOVAS FROM MELBOURNE, WORDS CAN'T DESCRIBE HOW GREAT THEY ARE, THEN THERE'S THE SCIENTISTS WHO ARE A MAJOR INFLUENCE ON SEATTLE GRUNGE SCENE. AFTER PLAYING 'NIGHTRIDE' ON MY DRUMKIT, I'M CLOSE TO EXPLODING ( I HIT MY KIT VERY HARD, WITH VERY THICK STICKS ) SPLINTERS COME OFF THE HIGH HAT, SOME HIT ME IN THE FACE. I ALSO LOVE MOZART. I LOVE ARTISTS THAT ARE TRUE TO THEMSELVES AND THAT'S WHAT THE SEX PISTOLS LIKED ABOUT QUO. THE SEX PISTOLS RESPECTED QUO FOR NOT CARING WHAT THE MAINSTREAM AND MEDIA THOUGHT OR SAID ABOUT THEM. I WOULD'VE PREFERRED QUO TO STEER TOWARDS HARD RHYTHMIC ROCK, EVEN ANTI-COMMERCIAL ROCK THAN SOFT MAINSTREAM/COUNTRY MUSIC. PROBLEM WAS THAT ROSSI KNEW WHERE 'THE BODIES WERE BURIED' PLUS HE'S THE BEST LEAD GUITARIST AND SINGER A ROCK BAND COULD WISH TO HAVE APART FROM REG PARFITT. SO ROSSI WAS PROBABLY IRREPLACEABLE. I LOVE THEIR 60'S PSYCH POP/ROCK AND THEIR TRANSITION TO MA KELLY'S AND DOG OF TWO HEAD. SOME PEOPLE MAY SAY THAT THE 80'S AND 90'S QUO APART FROM THE EXCELLENT ROCK TIL YOU DROP ALBUM WAS ALSO A NATURAL CHANGE & TRANSITION. THE FACT THAT QUO HAVE BEEN FUNCTIONING FOR MANY DECADES IN DIFFERENT FORMS MEANS THAT THEY'VE BEEN ABLE TO 'COME BACK' AND PRODUCE SOME OF THE BEST ROCK ALBUMS, NOT JUST BY THEM BUT BY ANYONE, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, 4TH CHORD, QUID PRO QUO, BULA QUO (ROCK TRACKS ) THESE ALBUMS ARE VERY CLEVER AND WELL PRODUCED. I FEEL THAT CREEPIN' UP ON YOU IS ONE OF THEIR FINEST MOMENTS. I PERSONALLY LOVE RIFFS AND FITLCENTURY, IN FACT I THINK THEY ARE BRILLIANT. THE IRONY IS THAT QUO ARE DAMNED IF THEY REPEAT THE 3 CHORD BOOGIE AND ALSO DAMNED IF THEY TRY DIFFERENT STYLES. THE QUO JOURNEY IS A ROLLER COASTER RIDE. HANG ON TIGHT.............................OR JUMP OFF!!
Stopped listening to Quo after Rossi turned them from a heads down rock band into an end of the pier, novelty, pop act. Pip Williams needs to take some of the blame for watering down their sound and Rossi's decision to end the Frantic Four line up.
Never Too Late is not dross, it's in my Quo Top 10. It's got Tale Me Away, Oh Carol, Don't Stop Me Now, Mountain Lady, Riverside, great songs!!! We virtually agree on the top 10 then. Cheers for your input dude appreciate that!!! If you can't stand the heats a good en. Thirsty work is my preference with the guitar riffs and songwriting in areas. Over produced but not having Backbone above that sorry! Appreciate your love for quo least we agree on Hello number 1!!
I’d have Under The Influence a lot higher. It’s fantastic. Even Thirsty Work and Backbone id put quite a bit higher too but each to their own. Number one is Blue For You. I probably agree about your bottom pick. You also left the mighty Quid Pro Quo out
I'm a Quo fan and disagree with your ranking... Never too late is a good album with very good songs... Heavy traffic should be in the top 10 at least... In the army now is too high in your ranking as well as Dog of 2 heads... well my favourite number 1 is Quo album...
Spare Parts is way too high here, it’s really not very good, in fact I’d put it last, the one you’ve ranked way way too low is Quid Pro Quo as others have already commented on, it’s better than the two albums before it. My favourite is On The Level. Good video
I like quid pro but I feel it misses the raw bluesy quality of other albums. It does rock though but when it came out it completely bypassed me as another good fun quo record. Nothing more nothing less. Plus the cover looks like a map for a school science museum trip. I really like in search of the fourth chord but again non are a patch on under the influence or thirsty work for me. They lack that tender heart

Thanks and "HELLO!" from🇫🇷 to you and your dad. Yep! I'm a 🐸 Quo fan. Got to know them when I was 13, back in 1981 and first saw them at Old Trafford, June 1991. Just registered to your channel. 🤘

Nice list. I essentially stopped buying Quo albums after In The Army Now, with the exception of Heavy Traffic, In search of the Fourth Chord and Quid Pro Quo. I would rank those three higher than Back to Back, 1982 and In The Army Now.
I'm loving the love for quid pro!! I actually like in search of the fourth and familiar to millions.
Then just taste RIOT: "Rock City" from 1977, "Narita" from 1979 and "Fire Down Under" from 1981...enjoy.
Can't believe you missed out the double live
I know but that's a no brainer I just thought I'd do studio albums cos then you have to put in aquoustics etc..

Anything after 81....forget it! As soon as they brought in outside producers it went down hill.
My dad always admits it was never the same but he always rooted for every release, even singing the don't stop album in 96 in the car! Came to a point where he had francis' voice style down. 😅😅
@@hughesyplays sounds like your dad and would have got along! 👍🏻
Everyone turned to shit in the 80's.....terrible decade for music.
I get the point about outside producers too. Saxon did a similar thing and tried going all Def Leppard. 😂
Quo’. Is my number 1. But close call with Hello and Piledriver. and On the Level. Love the early stuff. But saw them 1st time in 77’. At Lewisham Odeon (sadly no longer there).
Thanks for watching 👍🍺 favourite quo song?
Hughesy Plays That’s a difficult one... Backwater is up there but Love Slow Train, Don’t Waste my time, Roll over Lay Down , Big Fat Mama, there’s so many I could just keep going.. Blue eyed Lady, Mystery song(Full version). Down Down, A bit later Dirty Water, Whatever you want. But love I saw the light and What to do...
You are on a plain and Francis Rossi sits next to you,he ask what your favourite quo song is and it has to be a choice of two,in return he will give you a signed fender telecaster. What song do you go with?
Backwater/just take me.

Cheers for the input! Yeh I agree not every quo song is amazing they have some filler. I like dirty water alot!
All on vinyl! My dad's!
@@hughesyplays The Legacy of those seven albums has seen them stay relevant for another 43 years.

Thanks for watching Evz🤘🍺
I just prefer can't stand the heat and thirsty work
Was your dad, like us, queueing up at 4am? Yes I remember a couple of bikers ' having a word' with a few of the heavy handed security. Great gig though, then we all piled into Jilly's rock club after the show (your dad may know that club).
I used to go Jillys in the 2000s,I'm 39 so remember the nine inch nails n korn days!
First time dad saw quo was 73 belview kings hall! Pretty things and Montrose.
Loved the cover Albums not normal Quo but they did some great songs, one of my fav songs was Walk in the Room.
I like walk in the room. Light but nice number
Great point its all about preference!

Cool comments. Old fans will dismiss any quo after rockin all over the world, probably without a listen to anything,my dad gives every album a chance, sometimes rooting for the crap ones that are bad,but they have released good albums just not on the level (pun intended) as the old
so what do you think of the first 2 60s albums?
Psychedelic and experimental but not my favourite quo stuff

What no quo live?

NEVER TOO LATE IS A VERY INTELLIGENT ALBUM. IT IS ONE OF THEIR BETTER ALBUMS. PROOF THAT IT WASN'T THE MUSIC THAT FORCED SPUD TO LEAVE THE BAND, IT WAS ROSSI.
FRAME IS WHAT I CALL ' THE ANTI-QUO '
MY 'COMICAL' ATTEMPT AT ELEVIATING THE DEEP SADNESS AT LOSING OUR GREAT BAND IS TO CLAIM THAT ALIENS ABDUCTED THE 'REAL' ROSSI AND REPLACED HIM
WITH 'THE ANTI-QUO'.
I LOVE THE STOOGES AND MC5, BUZZCOCKS,
IN AUSTRALIA, THERE WERE AND ARE 100'S OF AWESOME ROCK BANDS LIKE CELIBATE RIFLES, LIME SPIDERS, SPY VSPY, YOU AM I, THE SAINTS, RADIO BIRDMAN, NEW CHRISTS, X,
the Meanies, Frenzal Rhomb, and Screamfeeder & the Hard-Ons FROM THE 'MEAN' STREETS OF PUNCHBOWL, SYDNEY.
PROBLEM WAS THAT ROSSI KNEW WHERE 'THE BODIES WERE BURIED' PLUS HE'S THE BEST LEAD GUITARIST AND SINGER A ROCK BAND COULD WISH TO HAVE APART FROM
REG PARFITT.
That was longer than a quo setlist!!! Cheers for the input brother!!!

Stopped listening to Quo after Rossi turned them from a heads down rock band into an end of the pier, novelty, pop act. Pip Williams needs to take some of the blame for watering down their sound and Rossi's decision to end the Frantic Four line up.
