Your garden is beautiful. Your cherry tree will recover and be even better.

Perhaps move the red Sweet William in front of the red brick gateway in the distance? It would look nice against the brick. Thank you for sharing your love of gardening with us. I am in New Zealand.

Thanks Joanne - I could have done that but the bed isn't prepared over there yet - it's just weeds!!! The sweet William is on the compost now and will create more beautiful flowers in years to come! 😁

Your roses are gorgeous Annette and you have beautiful gardens. It's that dang wind, I dont know about your weather but we have been getting more wind then we ever had. We lost so many trees from the last hurricane we had several years, it caused so much devastation. I love your videos.

Thanks Jane. Yes, the weather has been so peculiar and windy too. And I feel like we just haven't had the same warmth that we've become used to. I wonder what my dahlias will be like this year if we don't get some proper sun soon! 😊

Bravo, I would be crying pruning the cherry.

Thanks Tina - it was such a tough decision but it needed to be done or I think I would've lost even more of it. Fingers crossed that it grows back well! 😊

Good for you for being so brave. You did the right thing otherwise the wind would have done the same to the rest sooner or later or it would have looked lopsided without that first branch. I think it will get nice and bushy now!

You have done the right thing. I have a cherry tree which I regularly cut back to keep in the right size for my garden. It keeps getting bigger and stronger the more I cut. I think it’s the wrong type for my garden but I love it. You where also right to take the red Sweet Williams out, they looked out of place. Put some pink or white ones in to replace them. Everything is looking great,

I pulled out every red tulip this year . My mum donated me bulbs no label. I have 2 generous gardeners on my arbour they are full of buds like yours , exciting isn’t it . My Clare is tiny maybe she’s in too much shade . Have you seen the English woman who’s amazing at tying in roses , saw a clip on UA-cam. She uses green twine , but the colour runs on twine , maybe it’s a Temu buy . 😂

Thanks, no, I haven't seen her - what is her channel called? I do like the look of natural jute - it seems to blend in more. 😊

Ahhh! I get so scared of major pruning and really have to force myself in case I damage the plant. But my neighbour is a very experienced RHS lecturer and she says you almost always improve things by pruning and it can be hard to kill a plant so I try to take bravery from that.
It's really cold here today and I'm not far from Bucks. I have one peony bud that's gone into frozen suspension waiting for some warmth and sunshine. And yes, we are slugged and snailed to death. The chillies in the grow house are no more. I have some slug pellets but we also have a hedgehog around so I won't use them out in the open, only just putting a few into the grow house and hoping to kill the slugs in there. It's a terrible spring for pests. Black spot has run wild already.
Where do you buy your mail order hydrangea from? I am looking for one but the garden centre has very little choice.
You did a great job on the roses. I love your videos. They make me want to pop round and join in.

Suewilkinson910 31C today and I am starting swimming. The sea is within walking distance, 200m away. I can see it from my balcony.

Thanks Sue - that is very reassuring to know. The pruning was so scary!
I'm so tired from going on nightly slug hunts - it feels never-ending - and we used nematodes again this year - they seem to have had very little affect!!!
I bought these from Crocus when they had a sale on. I've also ordered from Parker's in the past but Crocus are better quality in my opinion. Hope you can find what you're looking for.
Could you please pop round - I need help!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Joking but thanks for the offer 🥰

We had 38C yesterday, the highest at 6pm.
I drove up to the mountains to "my land" and watered my trees with 5ltr bottles water from the spring in Zaholi , a 5 minute drive before my land. The temperature was 31C while in my village by the sea it had risen to 35C . It was 12 am.
I gathered free wild (not sprayed) cherries from a branch which was hanging over the path as I was driving down to my land. I had to drive slowly under the branch after I had picked about 1 kilo of cherries. Then I walked up the path and cut some bramble which were growing everywhere in the middle of the path and there is a danger of blocking it .
On my way back home I kept pouring /trickling water over my head.
My daughter just texted me from Crete that they have 34C but it feels like 41C. Horrific!!
I water my plants every evening after the sun has gone down. I give them lots and lots of water.

@cottoverdi Thank you. We had it. Then we had a nice few days and today we had 36C . It is 8.42 pm now and I have the air-condition on.
But guess what. This morning I drove up the mountains and half my way up, to my great surprise I saw tiny wild liliums.
Red ones, crimson, liliums chalcedonicum. A glorious day as I had never seen wild ones before.

Great job Annet, how many dahlia's do you have in total, it looks massive.

Thanks! I counted 368 tubers this year - that's the most I've ever had and I feel like it is just a few too many to manage - I still have some that haven't been planted yet and it's June already so next year I will keep less...sometimes we just have to admit defeat 🤣

  • @harrystevens5110

Fab video Annette! How often do you water your dahilias that are in the ground?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  4 місяці тому +1

Hi Harry, thank you. We water when we plant them. Then they will only be watered when the weather warms up significantly and only if it hasn't rained for weeks. The tubers store water for ages and so they will generally survive really well without being watered. Also, watering attracts the slugs ...so... 🤣😬

@cottoverdi It is ok, the people are a bit stupid, ahaha. Very old-fashioned and disobey the law. I am the odd one out , here, aha. I always read in English to enhance my knowledge.
